NON-MFC: Finals Week 01
Toby Bedford and Jesse Hogan would look great in our forward line...

One quarter as a midfielder doesn't cut it for me. Especially when the opportunity opened up for him after the Brayshaw incident. We couldn't throw Rivers into the midfield role because he was playing a complete lock down role. This is why I'm still annoyed we didn't play the extra tall defender because then it created more pressure on the likes of Rivers who at one stage was locking down on McStay. If Brayshaw is going to miss some significant time or retire then once again it exposes us greatly. Can't just pretend we can rely on Petracca Oliver and Viney moving forward all the time. Someone eventually has to step up if that's Rivers and Bowey then the coaching staff to do transition them both into more midfield craft over the preseason. Even now the thought of Jordon now replacing Brayshaw is making me scared.- Maynard must get at least four weeks
This isn't the 80's mate.- Liam Henry

•Zerk Thatcher had 9 kicked on him against Jesse Hogan. No thanks •Henry is off to the hawks. •All the Dow talk is that he's off to the saints •Chol is one of the least competitive big man of thr competition. Pass.- PREGAME: SF vs Carlton

Amartey re-signed also.- Nick Watson
There's no real Tom Lynch type in the draft but certainly O'Sullivan would be the May replacement. Sully is your typical country lad who's aggressive at the contest and tough one on one. He has the build to turn into a imposing key back in years to come but also has shown previously that he can swing forward and play as a genuine key forward. His skills for such a big fella is really impressive. Uses the footy really well and is composed down back.- Nick Watson

Ok- Maynard must get at least four weeks
People saying they want justice. There's no justice in all of this. If rumours are true that Gus could give the game away from this incident then there's no justice at all. Someone's career is potentially taken away from him but yet the offender only misses 3-4 weeks? No good outcomes out of this.- PREGAME: SF vs Carlton

Unfortunately I just can't see us kicking a winning score. Weitering, Kemp and Matchbank are 3 solid defenders who have held their defence up really well. Fritsch was the only one who looked dangerous for us at times whilst McDonald is simply cooked. Unfortunately the loss of Melksham and Petty is taking a toll and it's caught up to us.- Nick Watson
He's 3 centimetres shorter then Kade Chandler so I don't think height will be a factor at all. Caleb Daniel is 168cm tall and so far has carved out a fine career playing over 150 games. As you said, the fact that he's already got the speed, goal sense and skill level then I think that's good enough.- Nick Watson

I've identified midfield depth as a concern for us. But with North potentially getting an extra 1st round for compo this will push us back down a peg. With saying that, unfortunately I believe that means we'll miss out on Duursma, Sanders and McKercher. I think our next best option to at least improve our forward half is pocket rocket Nick Watson. He's a 170cm small forward but don't be put off his height. The kid has some serious X factor and star factor. Last year he was pigeon-holed as a small forward, so recruiters wanted to see what his midfield capabilities were like. Didn't take him long until the Coates League round 3 against Northern Knights where he announced himself quickly that he's got the tools to step up and play midfield. He had 34 disposals and kicked 2.3 in a complete dominant display. His numbers this year play as a high half forward/midfield have been incredibly strong. There has been comparisons to Nick Daicos when he's playing around the midfield with his ability to hit pin point passes and also weave his way in and out of traffic. Not counting his championship games where he once again dominated especially his game against WA where he had 13 disposals and kicked 5 goals playing purely as a forward pocket and then another 4 goals against Vic Country. His ability to play at a high level throughout his junior level and consistency is elite. If we were to pick him I can easily see a round 1 debut. X factor, speed, tackling pressure and ability to hit the scoreboard. The kozzie/Wizard combo would generate some genuine excitement within fans and he's got that real strut and arrogance (in a good way) in the same way as a Tom Papley and Hayden Ballantyne which I think we've genuinely lacked over the years.- The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
We have significant midfield depth issues. When Brayshaw went down I was hoping Sparrow could stand up and provide some cover. He was incredibly disappointing and having only 2 disposals to half time for a midfielder is simply unacceptable. Working out what exactly his role is confusing. At some stage he needs to step up and not live off just getting 12-15 disposals per game. With Jordon, Harmes and Dunstan potentially all gone, this will now cut deep with midfield experience and depth. Unfortunately I don't know what's out there in terms of midfield depth. My hope is a out of the blue scenario ala Lachie Hunter.- PREGAME: SF vs Carlton
- Stuff drafting a kid, poach a key forward.
I've mentioned this previously when he announced his retirement that I'd happily take him on a 1 year deal with transition into a forwards coach. Imagine the leadership and tactical nous he could provide for the likes of JVR, Jefferson and Petty. We're lacking genuine leadership up forward and I think he'd be a perfect foil for Petty and JVR as they continue to develop their forward craft. Put it this way, I would have much rather a Jack Riewoldt playing on Thursday night then a Tom McDonald. - The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
