CHANGES: Rd 19 vs Western Bulldogs
Sometimes it’s more fun reading the losing oppositions forums where they at least pay our team some respect ..,

SO ITS COME TO THIS
My take on the season & how it is unfolding 1. Injuries…the type of player we have lost & also injuries in games have hurt us badly this season …didn’t have that issue last season . That has meant players in different positions or playing in different structures which brings a lot of different pressures. Players missing big chunks of the season will take quite a few weeks to pick up their game form & there are no easy games to do it in. You can’t change your whole game plan because we lost TMac so it’s figuring out in season the best options. Also VFL this season is def below par & so to me it makes sense to play Gawn & Jacko into form in the AFL. I watch the VFL closely and am a tad reluctant to get too carried away with players form in that comp 2. Every team has had 6 months to study us & work out a plan to beat us. We are the Premiers & the Hunted & nearly every team we have played this season has played out of their skins. So the players have to learn a different type of mental resilience & pressure along with getting themselves up every week. I don’t think it’s a surprise that our younger players are often in our bottom 6 or so. 3. Of course there is loading etc which is just another factor and would contribute in some way to our current form. I absolutely believe we are a ” work in progress” and don’t doubt the belief and talent of our coaches and fitness staff …they gave us probably the hardest premiership to win & deserve our support. It’s a really tough year and will things turn …I hope so. Have no doubt that when MFC is on we are still the team to beat . Our form in the last 4 games of the season will give us the answers.

POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Geelong
That wasn’t the point … if you are able to go & choose to go.. I still applaud that … I’m guessing you go to support your team & if it boosts Geelong’s coffers …so be it .. not all games are our home games & I’m very happy that our supporters go to games at oppo venues to support our team !

POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Geelong
That’s a crap comment .,I’d say congratulations on being a diehard Melb supporter…

POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Geelong
Agree …20 more inside 50’s ..you would say the margin was flattering,..I’d prefer to say.,we’re not that bad

POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Geelong
Agree …also Langdon irrelevant. Such a narrow ground makes the wings irrelevant. You can’t change your game plan to suit I ground . Let’s see how Geelong goes on the MCG

CHANGES: Rd 17 vs Geelong
This is a part of an article written by The Mongrel Punt on the Adelaide v Melb game. I found it interesting reading comments by independent commentators. "Matching them up, they attended a similar number of ruck contests, but that is where the comparison stops. ROB got 48 hit outs from his 70 contests, 16 to advantage while Weideman's 73 contests. netted only 11 hit outs with four to the advantage of his own team. The story is the same for practically all key stats, with O'Brien pantsing Weideman in clearances, tackles, marks, disposals, metres gained, intercepts and even free kicks. Having said all that, Weideman would have known that he was probably not going to win the taps going into the game, so it looked like he intentionally put his body into spaces that O'Brien was looking to use to tap to his mids, while the Melbourne midfield looked to steal the ball as it was tapped down, which they did so very effectively. So while I'm giving O'Brien the nod as a pure ruckman, the way Weideman was able to work with his midfield was everything that Melbourne could have wanted from him in terms of outcome. He still needs to watch some undisciplined play that gave away free kicks, but as a role player, he did very well and will likely be congratulated in the Monday game review."

De Goey is the New Story
I’ll try to believe you are not serious. He is paid by a club whose members put their hard earned dollar in to support said club ! 1 …don’t care whether it’s consenting adults or not …it is a shocking look from an AFL player in the middle of a season off his face & exhibiting offensive behaviour 2…you can pontificate all you like about whether AFL players are role players …but whatever arguments are thrown up …they are . Drunk offensive young men who are excused because they “are having fun” become men who think being a [censored] with women is acceptable.

Caro Apologise to Dees Fans
With what I remember…the only games that stand out to me with oppo supporters booing us is Essendon…they are by far the biggest whinger’s. Collingwood are just quite frankly in a category of their own

GAMEDAY: Rd 12 vs Sydney
Wonder how many Weid /Brown comparisons we’ll have by the end of the match. Maybe we can just laud the good play rather than sniping at someone who’s not playing.,,

CHANGES: Rd 12 vs Sydney
Played well at Casey today

POSTGAME: Rd 11 vs Fremantle
Hmm. If we had gone into the game without May & then having to deal with Petty struggling with a knee…maybe we would be better prepared. Throw in no Langdon..Trac struggling with flu..& a raft of young players going from trying to win to now being hunted every week ..that takes time to adjust and learn. We still have one of the youngest teams going round & consistency takes time to build. In this system of equalisation I don’t believe we will ever have a team that goes through undefeated. Our stretch of 17 wins is phenomenal & I still believe in Goodwin’ s mantra of building a team to win finals. I think this will be our hardest year …my only concern is our tall forwards but I think I felt the same last year . Is this the time we do our ramped up training ?

CHANGES: Rd 09 vs West Coast
He got a corky early in the game & towards the end of the game was suffering from cramp ..in the leg with the corky ..reduced blood supply. It wasn’t his foot.

CHANGES : Rd 08 vs St. Kilda
Dunstan consider his future ? …he did & it’s with us. He has 3 yrs with us & there will be plenty of opportunity for him & Tomlinson would still be holding hope to play again this season…there is a long way to go ..

Great question

CHANGES: Rd 07 vs Hawthorn
Agree re Rivers. May did say he came back through necessity & wasn’t 100% so maybe a rest could be good as he does look a little sore …
-
CHANGES: Rd 07 vs Hawthorn
Was it a similar moment to when May’s handball was smothered resulting in a Tigers goal 🤔😏
-
CHANGES: Rd 05 vs GWS
Definitely not Tmac. It highlighted to me watching the game last night how often he uses his big body to crash packs & open the game up for our little half forwards. Weid & BB have their strengths but definitely don’t play the crash & bash footy Tommy does.

Injury frustration
Whilst I enjoy your podcast comments enormously…think you’re off kilter here. I don’t see any benefit to the club to play “ducks and drakes” with injury info. Injury recovery is an impossible science & if we were sitting down the bottom of the ladder & desperate for players to return I would understand your frustration but we are winning & I would rather those injured players come back rehabbed as best they can than bringing them back when not ready. (See Trent Mackenzie PA & Nick Haynes Giants)

POSTGAME: Rd 02 vs Gold Coast
Max also got his hands to many marks but didn't take them. TMac is essential to Bailey Fritsch playing well. As the night went on with the humidity & light rain..none of our talls (Dogga the exception) didn't mark the ball cleanly. Coming up against a red hot SUNS on their home deck with a shortened pre-season...I'll take any win ..anyway..to bank 4 points!!

POSTGAME: Rd 02 vs Gold Coast
they were probably glad Lever & Salem weren't there as well !!

CASEY: Rd 01 vs Sandringham
Amazing...we win by 80 odd points & no-one is knocking the door down?? It is ROUND 1 of the VFL season & after 2 COVID interrupted seasons...lets see what our MFC listed players are doing after ROUND 6. If there is an injury to our senior team we are bringing a player into a team where they just have to play their role . Pretty harsh assessments on some players after 1 game.

CHANGES: Rd 02 vs Gold Coast
You absolutely play Pickett unless he is not fit to play. Just as we get excited whenever he gets near the ball conversely the opposition gets extremely worried. His pressure alone is valuable!!

PREGAME: Community Series vs Carlton
Rivers PCL… ?May went off against Nth so maybe residual soreness. McKay & Curnow maybe doubtful …
