Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
Buckley looked awkward a couple of weeks ago when the question of coaching again was floated during On The Couch. Maybe conversations were already happening

Simon Goodwin Sacked
Wrong decision. Not happy about this at all. Deserved more respect than this. But this is a classic MFC move to do a knee [censored] reaction and condemn us for years in the wilderness by no doubt selecting an unproven coach with a nice PowerPoint presentation. After 5 years of misery the president will quit, an ex player will ride in on a big white horse, the board will barely say anything and we will roam the wilderness again. We have all seen this before. This might be it for me, I think I'm done. At least I saw a flag in my lifetime, I never thought I would see that, and Goodwin delivered it. Thank you Simon, I will never forget how happy I felt on that day and when I had pride in this club again. If I have to wait the same amount of time for a flag again I will no longer be alive. Thank you, you are a legend of our club and always will be

Game Plans & Styles: Playing Catchup?
We won the flag in 2021 playing a ruthless contested territory game. We were unstoppable, we crushed teams in the middle, locked it in our forward half, and squeezed the life out of games. In 2022, we were flying again until injuries hit. Now in 2024 everyone's gone back to a faster, outside "run and carry" style. And instead of sticking to our DNA, we’ve tried to pivot. Problem is... we’re just keeping up. By the time we’ve coached and built a list to play this new style, the game will evolve again. So why don’t we go back to what worked? Win the contest, own territory, and put the foot on the throat. Smash the suitcase out of teams like we used to. I genuinely don’t get it, what is the real goal here? If we are just keeping up then I have serious concerns on Goodwin. If there is a master plan here that we are building to that is going to dominate like we did in 2021 then please give me some good news!

May to Tribunal
The counter argument will be that May should have pulled up and positioned himself to tackle. given the extent of the injury, he is going to get at least get three weeks I would think

Can we talk about Kolt?
I love his aggression and willingness to get stuck into his opponents. We need that

Goalkicking
So far this season I have only been wrong once predicting Max will miss from a set shot. It's so clear-cut, and not just the ball spinning and swinging when he walks in, but it is the little skip he does about 5 - 10 metres before before the man on the mark that guarantees he will miss. It shifts his balance and then he swings his leg to compensate. Happens every single time. The only time I got it wrong was when he was close enough that the ball snuck through. We kicked 1 goal 12 in the second half. The saints kicked 5 goals 3 It's killing me watch this team right now. Goodwin has to do something, he can't talk his way out of this any more.

Luke Jackson back to Victoria?
I’d rather take Andrew Bradshaw than Jacko

Max Gawn shanks left - AGAIN
It bothers me no end that Max’s routine can be fixed and yet despite all the clubs goal kicking coaches it never has. Step 1: Stop spinning the ball in your hands on approach it distracts your mind from what you need to do. Hold it properly in front of you laces pointing at the middle of the goals with the top of the ball pointing at your belly button. Step 2: Walk or slow jog straight at the target. Don't skip, don't arc, just go straight Step 3: In the kicking motion look at the ball and nothing else. Visualize kicking the ball through the goals to land 10 rows back Simple and guaranteed to be way more reliable.

PODCAST: Rd 05 vs Essendon
We need to talk about Viney. I'm only going by what I watch but he just murders the ball everytime he gets his hands on it. I love his heart, his strength, his guts but he is becoming a liability. Should he sit in the forward line to help lock the ball in and increase forward line pressure - something we are embarrassingly bereft of right now.

PODCAST: Rd 04 vs Geelong
They showed a lot more endeavor this week. A lot of players really turned it around, especially May. Winning at Geelong is never easy, and the Cats are a good team. However, we need to talk about Viney. I love him. He is one of the toughest players I have ever seen; he gets the ball and always makes a contest. But on the run, his foot disposal appears achingly bad now, and we need a different approach. I like us rotating players with better kicks through the midfield (Langford, Windsor, Pickett) and this should continue as speed and precision in 6-6-6 at the bounce is critical for gaining post-clearance possession, but Viney and Oliver should be encouraged to handball more and kick less (if not already) as they appear to be the biggest reason why delivery into the forward line is so bad and we do not retain possession Side note: When Fritsch was playing up the ground in a half-forward flank/wing position, he showed great promise. He is good in open space and is a great kick, this is a better position for him until we fix our forward delivery. I have not given up hope; we showed more fight and promise in this game, which was commendable. However, this season is turning out to be a hybrid of 2019/2020, so I'm keeping my expectations low.

I'm still on a high from the flag in 2021. All I wanted was to see us win one flag in my lifetime. Took 45 years but we got there After all the suffering as a supporter and member of this club I have endured in my life, any flag between now and when I am dust is just gravy

Tim Membrey
Just get him because he always seems to have a day out against us!!!!

He's got a premiership flag and a Norm Smith medal - he's achieved more than any player on our list since 1964. Only thing left is a Brownlow which he could get in a club that is going to be playing finals next year. We should but after this season it's not a certain like it was at the end of 2021 and 2022. He has set himself up for life after football, but the money he can earn from that is contigent on his brand getting maximum exposure until the day he ends his career - which it must be said, is closer to the end than the beginning. So as much as it hurts to say it, from a "rest of his life" perspective he'd be better off playing elsewhere. No matter what decision he takes I would support it and would still thank him if I ever met him in person. He gave me the only thing I wanted which was a flag.

The Run Home
Personally I think the season was over after the loss to Freo. Despite trying to preserve players with different game styles after the 22/23 seasons to mitigate injuries, the losses of Brayshaw, Trac, Salem (again), Max has been too much to overcome. I suspect Windsor has been iced as well given his age. If we make the finals that will be commendable but I don't care if we miss because we are not a chance to win. I still believe in our list and with a couple of savvy trades in the off season and some luck with injuries next year we will be in the hunt again for one more time. In the meantime rewatching the 2021 Flag when the season is over again will keep me happy
