  1. Well said Sweeping generalisation I know but I am willing to bet that most people would know 4/5's of FA about Liam, where he has come from and how amazing it was that he even made it to an AFL team let alone be able to show such raw talent and leave the game with a highlight reel that would be the envy of 5 year players. The guy has come from a totally different world, from a complex, tribal, ancient culture that most people would not understand. Within that world he has responsibilities and as such he is putting his family first. Anyone that is having a sook about him leaving should probably ask themselves that same question. What comes first? Your family (which in his case is breaking apart) or your football? I for one am proud that the Demons are still offering to support him. I think that demonstrates a wonderful example of our values as a football club and I have no doubt that even if he does not return, Liam, his family and his community would be eternally grateful for it and who knows? Maybe one day he might come back. I'd rather be associated with a football club that follows those ethics rather than one that demonstrates what some of the supporters are saying out there that are telling him to get effed, good riddance etc... That [censored] is just bloody disgraceful.
  2. Yeah that would be the decent thing to do wouldn't it?
  3. Yeah that does happen. Lots of cardio vascular exercise actually breaks down muscle, it's why marathon runners are so slim and why endurance cyclists also don't have a lot of muscle, the body focuses it's energy on muscle endurance and not muscle growth. Finding the balance is the key and everyone's body is different. Some people pack on muscle really well, others don't, and of course you don't want to overdo it because that's when injuries either start to happen or make your pre-disposal to them a lot greater. I got the impression that under Bailey we were more focused on running than strength hence why we had good speed but as soon as we came up against bigger bodied teams like Geelong that forced us to play hard contested footy we got smashed. Only a few players in our team could withstand that. The Bombers seem to have swung the other way and which is probably why soft tissue injuries have killed them in the latter half as the bodies start breaking down. I reckon we look bigger than last year, only just, but that is because Misson and co are adopting a steady process of building the players up properly. I can't comment on the weight room banter but I think that may be in the past going by reports of the influence of guys like Clark who by all accounts have demanded some serious effort by his presence, let alone work-rate alone. I dare say Grimes and Trengove are no different. Just can't expect any real results till 2014 I'd reckon
  4. Robert Walls a.k.a Got me stuffed why everyone in the media thinks he's such a brilliant mind, never has any insight, just replays what we've already read or witnessed.
  5. One of the problems with Schwab may be, and I know nothing of the man obviously, is that he may well manage "up" very well but not so much "down" I see this a lot in corporates, the underlings scratch their heads and cannot for the life of them work out why some guy keeps his position year after year after year when he is pretty terrible at managing them and their interests. In this day and age a CEO of a footy club has to act more like a CEO and less like a footy player with half a brain and some management smarts. They wouldn't have kept him on if he was not meeting his KPI's, I don't reckon the club is that irresponsible, in this day and age if they were we'd be a helluva lot worse off than we are now.. We got good member numbers, we're in the black, we've got sponsors, we just need to start winning some bloody games and that is down to the players, not the CEO
  6. A few weeks ago I was sure there would be no way but now I'm starting to think this could happen. With Clark injured and Green retiring our forward line is, at best, hardly functional. We seem to be getting the ball in there often enough but we're not converting. In other words we're failing, bad, in this area and we have to fix it because Clark can't carry the weight on his own when he is fit. Enter Cloke. This fixes the issue with one guy going down and with both in, we have a very decent forward line. The mid-field is almost as bad as our forward line. So that would be the second area I'd look at and as such I think Davey could well be on the chopping block now to free up the coin to secure a Cloke and an experienced mid-fielder because this is a gaping hole we need filled.
  7. Was one of my favourite players If only others with a lot more talent and skill in our team had his fearlessness and hardness we'd not be in the state we are in now. I'll never forget the way he took it right up to guys like Hall, Crowley etc... when he played, the guy could not be intimidated. Onya Brad, you gave your all for the club and I respect that immensely.
  8. Could well be one of the best recruits we've had in the last 5 years at this rate. Kid is a gun
  9. We won't be found guilty or penalised. The investigation has already been done a year ago. Whatever Brock ads is irrelevant, it's his word against some very smart people that run our club and are affiliated with it. He's the only one that is going to lose out of this because the only thing that is going to be found out is that he has been played superbly by Sheehan, Roos and Healey. Bailey won't say anything if he wants to maintain a career in the AFL as well.
  10. The AFL won't make an issue of it. They intentionally made the competition work this way due to the disparity between the rich and poor clubs and also (back then) to benefit the new clubs coming into the comp. When they realised they had created a monster they changed the rules and invented new ones for GWS and GC which the rest of the clubs agreed to. It's a great issue for the media as it sells copy but it's old news. Everyone knows we tanked, heck I supported it as I thought it would help us. In hindsight it hasn't but we move on. What was the most painful thing to watch about that on the couch show was Roos saying we are becoming irrelevant as a footy club based on stats like Gold Coast having won more quarters of football than we have this year. I know stats can be used to prove anything but that is a pretty hard thing to hear all the same. I hope Neeld cleans the place out at the end of the year I really do
  11. Thank god someone has a clue Well said
  12. Nup it makes perfect sense Moloney is trade currency. We can actually entice another club to part with a good player for him (Boak). Bate, Petterd and Bennell we can't do that. Their currency is too low (and of those only Bate attracted interest from other clubs) We could keep Moloney as an inside mid but Jones and Magner are ahead of him, we'll have Viney in the draft, we've got Tom Couch etc.... At his age/experience he should be the first in that list and he isn't. Plus the spell at Casey did not help. Trust me. He's gone. Bennell over Bate? No chance. He's done his ACL, we won't see him for another 12 months and he has hardly shown anything in the games he has played whereas Bate has. Matter of fact Bate hasn't been that bad. Last weekend he wasn't great but he was far from our worst player in the previous few. Petterd over Bate - Line ball but I'd give the nod to Bate as he is nowhere near as injury prone and Petterd has done sweet fa in two years anyway. He's got better endurance than Petterd as well, that's going to become more important given the way the game is going to change when they start capping interchange rotations.
  13. I reckon he is safe. Matchups wise we don't need him with Magner and Couch in the side. Plus Dunn had to come in, it'll be a real slog up there and he will be fresher for the one week break And Jetta deserves a go too. Bate has played pretty well this year, Moloney, Pettered and I dare say Bennell are ahead of him on the chopping block
  14. Moloney has sulked all year, is not playing defensively and is not finding the ball. Got a rocket last week. Did not respond well enough in the magoos. Mediocrity would be to keep playing him. Boak to Melbourne, Moloney to Port and potentially a pick thrown in as well. Done deal.
  15. Probably saved him. He's had a shocking year, if he'd have played out the season, and his form was still crap, then he may well have been trade bait. 2013 will be his make or break year with us I reckon.
  16. Of all the players on our list I reckon he is the most likely to be traded at the end of this year
  17. That makes sense to me as well. I reckon we'll probably see more of him next year
  18. On the record as never potting this kid once. Tries hard and gives his all Much improved under Neeld too I might add Keep up the good work Matty
  19. Fark yeah same here And 178 is fine for an inside mid, low centre of gravity, harder to tackle. The best attribute of Viney is his aggression, you can't make someone like that, you're either born like it or you're not. We desperately need a player like this
