The Petracca v McCartin debate reprised
joeboy replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I believe McCartin will suffer from the same syndrome our own John Fidge did about 30 years back. He came to us as a man-mountain of a 17 year old who'd dominated schoolboy football because..he could, but either through lack of desire or lack of appropriate coaching for a precociously talented junior, he failed to rise to any heights and was eventually shafted to Brisbane and ignominy. -
Dees win by 3 points Kent kicks 4 goals
-
6 - Watts ( far from a good game but nobody deserved more votes ) 5 - Hunt ( not his best game but at least took his opponents on ) 4 - Garlett ( only forward who looked likely ) 3 - Spencer ( definitely tried against the odds ) 2 - Petracca ( if only he had a tank ) 1 - Oliver ( lucky dip)
-
Jones - was well held Viney - continued poor season Salem - far from convincing Watts - some isolated class Petracca - just some cameos Tyson - prolific but wasteful Oliver - many irrelevant handballs Stretch - quieter than usual Kent - was hardly noticed Frost - some good interceptions Melksham - nothing to impress Hannan - not senior standard Vince - game has passed McDonald - was generally steady Weideman - nothing to impress Hunt - too predictable today Neal-Bullen - improving each week Bugg - had no impact Spencer - almost broke even Garlett - took his chances Jetta - always slows momentum Harmes - tried but rough
-
6 - Jones ( was unbelievable ) 5 - Hunt ( indefatigable and exciting) 4 - Watts ( showed heart and effort ) 3 - Jetta ( made only 1 mistake )
-
Jones - career best game Viney - continued disapppointing season Salem - slow and indecisive Watts - played with heart Petracca - missing when needed Gawn - please hurry back Tyson - played little part Oliver - couldn't get involved Stretch - some glaring errors Kent - a pleasing return Melksham - little to commend Hannan - couldn't get involved Vince - was rarely noticed T.McDonald - stood up well O.McDonald - was often lagging Weideman - not the answer Hunt - an excitement machine Neal-Bullen - has few tricks Garlett - didn't take chances Smith - all at sea Jetta - was almost flawless Harmes - not a forward
-
6 - Oliver - what's not to love? 5 - Jones - like wine 4 - Salem - love him with the ball 3 - Garlett - always looked dangerous 2 - Jetta - reliable and focused all game 1 - Watts - great second half
-
Jones - courageous and inspiring Viney - troublesome decision making Hogan - an important presence Salem - prolific and composed Watts - last quarter heroics Petracca - not his best Lewis - slow and indecisive Brayshaw - some handy cameos Gawn - probably broke even Tyson - prolific but wasteful Oliver - genius at large Stretch - determined and effective Melksham - tentative but handy Hannan - was almost good T.McDonald - quiet but reliable O.McDonald - no glaring errors Weideman - some important touches Hunt - exciting but limited Neal- Bullen - was rarely noticed Garlett - most dangerous forward Jetta - solid all game Harmes - disposal was problematic
-
6 - Oliver 5 - Jones 4 - Vince 3 - Lewis 2 - Gawn 1 - Hogan
-
Jetta - rusty but effective T.McDonald - held up defence Smith - impressive before injury Melksham - finding his feet O.McDonald - rarely imbued confidence Hunt - loved his energy Salem - not his best Stretch - played important role Jones - outstanding all game Lewis - erratic then composed Oliver - loved his style Gawn - dominated despite injury Vince - vintage professional performance Petracca - some exciting passages Hogan - cause for excitement Weideman - still looks raw Neal- Bullen - important offensive pressure Hannan - justified selectors' decision Viney - not as noticeable Brayshaw - some isolated cameos Garlett - played role perfectly Watts - will get better

Btw, if Trengove was only making up the numbers in case of a last minute injury, why did he spend the entire game on the bench in his playing outfit????

The tragic event against the Swans was the most touching thing I've ever experienced in my 50+ years of watching football. When Schwarz went down clutching his knee, his opponent , Dunkley , stayed with him , comforting him until the trainers appeared. It still brings shivers to my spine , both the behaviour of the Swans' backman, and the realisation that possibly the greatest forward the Dees would ever have would be cruelly cut down before his prime.

There will never be Demons' merchandise available in Northern or Western suburbs department stores because the demand is almost negligible.. that's the reality of supporting our club. Having had retail outlets in those areas ,selling AFL endorsed products, I speak with inside knowledge

Btw, it must be noted, for those who haven't seen him for a while, JKH is no longer a string bean.. he actually has distinct muscle definition and looks strong -
My standout at training today was Hunt.. he reads the play beautifully and has license to leave his man to intercept, which he did often

Certainly no residue effects of suspected concussion for Salem... he trained and moved impressively with the main group
-
Yes they were bad angles. From my perspective he didn't look lean ,but his body looked strong and his aerobic capacity allowed him to compete comfortably with anyone who opposed him.
-
Actually yes. As those who attended training would attest, Hogan actually smiled ( many times ) and they weren't grimaces.
-
Standout observations: Hogan looks amazingly fit and content. Petracca has slimmed down remarkably. Tim Smith regularly outmarked anyone he was up against. Tyson, Jones, and Watts were standouts.

I think you're confusing the 'distracted' player with Craig Ellis. Ingo is in the building trade I believe

The sad thing is that neither photo has been photoshopped?
