  1. I agree, some game time in the VFL for Hogan would be good . His first and best year, came off him rag dolling defenders in the VFL. It might give him added confidence and get his 'eye in" for the game against Carlton next week.
  2. No we don't want it wet they play better in the wet. I was there last year at the SCG and it poured all-day and they played true wet weather football while we tried to play our play on at all cost game . We turned the ball over and gave them easy goals. SO NO RAIN PLEASE!!
  3. I was at the game and apart from Tmac making some very "park footballer" mistakes I agree that the backs did the best they could. One area that I would have liked to see is BIG MAX punching the ball forward, like White did in his day. We were getting "bullied" and beaten up in the centre because MAX was trying to tap the very very very wet and slippery ball to our mids like it was a dry day. Changing it up every so often and using his advantage in the ruck by smashing towards our CHF line may have reduced the packs forming and given our runners & forwards more time in the conditions. I would just like to see more of a "PLAN B" based on the conditions and how the game is being played by our opposition.
  4. When will someone from our Football Department get the bloody umpires representative down to our club and sort out what we need to do to get the same interruputation of head high,in the back , kicking in danger etc etc... As every other team that we play against. I am over the dumb way we get sucked into thinking we can tackle, play the ball like the teams we are playing on the day and expect the umpires to see it the same way. We wear Red And Blue and umpires interrupt all these rules differently to a player wearing Brown & Gold, Black and White and every other colour combination. I blame the FD as they need to get the memo's and ask for clarification because the players haven't got an idea.
  5. Maybe it was better to bring in these changes against the Dawks then [censored] the others who had done the NT trip plus a couple of 6day turnaround games.
  6. Based on this review result, does the MFC have the right to request another review on the Todd Goldstein pulling the ball out of the third row of the Grandstand in Hobart and kicking a goal.It was clearly over the line so how long after a score has been awarded does that score stand, is there a time limit and why have goal umpires if decisions can be made by some faceless person somewhere up in the Grandstands.....
  7. Yes MFC can only do what they are doing and that is have a strong, stable Club and keep winning games. One of my main concerns with Jesse is that when he started in the club his mentor and house mate was Mitch Clark and we all know what his thoughts were on loyalty and honesty...... Just hope those early days and any influence Mitch may have had on Jesse are all forgotten and he opens up negotiations soon with the club.
  8. I agree with all the comments about Ollie and CP and the next three weeks will give us even a better understanding on how good they will be.Port, Hawks and the Filth will be putting in some added homework on how to nullify these two and also Stretch.
  9. Simple solution would be have the umpires set up in umpiring teams, Goal umpires, boundary and field. They are set up as a team and stay together from the start of the season and umpire together for the whole season. As such they would become use to the way each of their team mates interprets the rules and you would hope there would be more consistency on game day. One has a bad game and they all go back to the state or bush leagues until they show they can umpire to to agreed level.
  10. Out Hogan ...... Needs to able to kick a min of 2-3 goals a game at the G. Let him go and get some confidence back at Casey monstering VFL defenders. That's where he got his hunger from before he started so well last year. He thinks he is an automatic selection each week. Thinks he has the club over a barrel with all the media hype over his contract . Apart from the saints game I have not seen anything this year that shows me he is worth the money that is reported he can earn. His kicking lacks penetration and before all the Jessie lovers get stuck into me, just answer this question , who would you rather have kicking for goal in a final from 48m out on an angle to win the game for us at the G. Watts or Hogan?
  11. Ran the boundary for Mitcham Under 15's as I was not good enough to get a game. They were a feeder club to Richmond then so very strong junior levels. Mates were at Nunawading so played under 17's and filled in for the seniors when needed. Had 1.5 seasons with Box Hill Div 2 VFL reserves then out to Koonung East Kew in the Eastern Sub Churches. Back to EDFL with Heathmont, for a season then semi retired (got married). Came back to footy aged 28 and played with some mates at Springbank in the Central Highlands League back in 1986/7. Must say the Country Footy Leagues were the best really enjoyed my time there.
  12. My brother-in-law has a theory that if any Dee's player who is in the team for that week , is on the Channel 9 Footy Show, we loose that week. Jack Viney is on the show tonight, so I will have great pleasure in seeing this theory blown apart when we win on Sunday. Go Dee's
  13. Agree with all the positive comments about "Betty" . Good club man and great back up for who knows what might happen when we come up against the "pro Teams" Hawthorn, Swans etc. that will be looking to nullify Big Max. Have Betty in the VFL as insurance will be worth every cent of his contract.
  14. I cant understand why but on several occasions during the game TMac would sprint towards the ball like an under 11's player and St Nick would sprint the other way, so that he would be in perfect position with no opponent. TMac would get caught in no-mans land and watch as the ball got delivered over his head or around him to St Nick who either kicked a score or passed it on to another saints running player. Dumb, Dumb football that you start to coach out of players while they are still in the under age comp's. I try to understand the "zoning" and "the press" etc.. BUT at some stage in a game when you are getting your pants pulled down shouldn't a senior player like TMac say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, I am going to stay on my man??
  15. I am in the "he needs to learn" camp. If you look at the banner on the club website Hogan picture is taken from last year where he is up and running, trying to rev the players up after a goal. He hasn't done that this year once! After his one goal in the last quarter we needed him to do that and show he was trying his hardest and wanted us to win. No what we got was a little point to the player who kicked it to him and a nod. I agree he is sooking it up big time and needs to put in a lot more effort. To me it is starting to look a bit like how Scully played before he pulled the pin. I know he wants to see if we are improving but doesn't that improvement include him putting in a 100% effort as well?
  16. Let's just finish this year off and get what every we can out of it ! Assess the list and move who we need too and keep those that we want. My concern is that if it takes two to three years to play together as a group and understand the game plan then moving on 7-10 players each year adds on more time to the best 18/22 reaching the levels of success that we all want. Needs to be a "line in the sand" and we stick with the core group 15/20 and get off their case and let the coach , coach and the players play. Look at the Doggies they are ahead of us because most of them played togther through the VFL includung a Flag last year and had a great development coach in Brendon McCartney who is now at Melbourne. A Reserves side in the VFL would be a great step forward in developing a better club and keep the players together, playing for each other and the jumper also!
  17. I would be happy if someone would stay inside our attacking 50 with Garlett . It sh*ts me that when we do get a turnover from the opposition and our players look up and all they see is Garlett with two sometimes three defenders on him. So then we need to look at kicking sideways and allow time for our forwards to get back. Then we get pressured , rush the kick/handpass and turn it over then we are the ones that do not have enough player back and the oppostion gets a free run into their 50 and score. YES PLEASE Players play in your positions and Coaches let them so that they can use their strengths. Getting 10-15 touchs on the wing and half back is of no use if you are in the team to kick goals towards what we hope will be a winning score.
  18. It was a reference back to my old dad who was in the shoe industry for all of his working life. He was the one who when he arrived in Melbourne in 1949 got told he had to pick a team and he chose Melbourne. So none of us 6 children had any say in it we were all brought up as Dee's supporters.
  19. Why don't umpires stay together for the whole session. If a team of umpires were allocated at the start of each season and umpired together for each match then they would get to understand each other and the way that they each interpret the rules. It would not stop the shockers BUT it would even out the inconsistency during games. If one has a bed day the whole group is sent to the bush the following week.
  20. Having been to all games except the Adelaide one, I am fast believing that there are two sets of interpretation for rules in this years games. The one for the big clubs with the AA grade players then a second set for the lower clubs. I am aware that we were outplayed by a very good team being Freo on Sunday but that first half, the amount of time they allowed Freo's A Grades to get rid of the ball when tackled with out being pinged or that ANY contact with anything close to being above the shoulders of a Freo player was a free kick. Then look at our players and how quick the whisle went against them, or how Hogan was twice belted in the head during marking contests with just a "play on" out come. The football department needs to contact the Umpires Boss and get someone down to the club and tell them what the players are doing wrong and get some clarity around it. Silly free kicks by our players are costing us BUT shockingly bad decisions from the umpires week in week out is sole detroying!
