  1. I would agree with you if Frost can be an effective tap ruckman at centre bounce as well around the ground, better than either Gawn or Pencil.
  2. very harsh assessment of Jones. your second point is more to the point, in that we do not have others who can rise to the challenge when needed particularly in the midfield. GWS midfield also showed us up last season with their numbers around the ball, their tenacity in the clinches, their run and quick and effective disposal.
  3. agree RB. Sure our midfield is woeful in roving to our losing ruckman and this has been the case for years. We clearly still have a problem with our midfield and outside run but Jamar alone is not the answer and he is a liability around the ground. Despite my misgivings about Spencer and Gawn we need to give one or other a try for several games. my preference is Gawn given his mobility up forward and around the ground. If that means dropping Dawes or Frost then so be it. All I know is that Jamar alone is not the answer.
  4. don't need to be quite so modest. you can let your real you out of the closet.
  5. seriously keen jako. great effort. truly committed Demon. hope they will for you and the other fans. you can go wild in Canberra, party city of the world. oops just realized that everything closes at 5.00pm other than those parties in private houses of public servants.
  6. It is an interesting question. Personally I go with illness rather than disorder for a number of reasons that best suit a conversation rather than comments here. Many would disagree. There is plenty of literature on this question which you can access in which this issue is discussed.
  7. Thanks for this ProDee. I would be careful in reading too much into these selective quotes. Each one of which can be taken out of context and quoted to support an opinion. A couple of comments. I do agree that the DSM can be a misleading and inappropriate way to diagnose a condition. You cannot pigeon hole mental health conditions neatly in a box or definition. Diagnosis and treatment of mental health conditions are not perfect. Individuals also respond differently to treatment. Individuals with the same condition will more often than not respond differently to the same treatment. That is why psychiatrists and GP's with experience and expertise will "trial" different treatment until they find the right one. Often medication is not appropriate and will not work. Sometimes psycho analysis and cognitive behavioural treatment is more appropriate. However, in many cases of serious mental illness, medication treatment is the only way to manage a person. When it works it can transform peoples lives. Sometimes it is just part of a treatment plan and will cease when a person gets back on to his or her feet, this is particularly the case in reactive conditions, such as a depression caused by an event in someones lives. However mental illness does exist. It is an illness just in the same way as any form of illness. The mind body connection is real. An important component in physical health is a persons mental health. It also important that we do not deride or rubbish psychiatrists or mental health professionals. As with all professions, there are competent and incompetent people in the profession. But we do need them just as we need a plumber or dentist.
  8. Don't you love Demonland. A "who cares" or throwaway story on the worse TV show in town with comments from a bunch of clowns with two neurons who simply love a headline or the sound of their own voice. Then we have a thread full of assumptions, generalizations, moralising, baseless opinions, counter opinions, medical opinions, bruised egos, indignation. And from a bit of useless gossip on a useless TV show from the mouths of useless commentators, the opinions on the thread become the new story. As Ernie once said "there is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man, true nobility is being superior to your former self." Having said all that it makes for great reading and you gotta love the strong opinions and personalities on show on this site. Priceless.
  9. OD you have an annoying habit of correcting me. you are usually correct which makes me a bit irritable. I drink to make people more interesting or when I know I have erred.
  10. Disappointing comment from you CBD. Although I note it was in response to TDIs comment which may be a mitigating factor.
  11. good point & interesting comparison clint. just shows you can't make generalizations.
  12. Just as Hawthorn has built their m'ship numbers over a long period of sustained success that includes multiple flags, the tigers had a long period from the mid 60s to 1980 with flags and success. The only thing that builds membership is flags and finals success over a long period not just a few years. Pretty obvious really.
  13. " gear" ...............if i was you I would travel alone "Special" no disrespect to BBO!
  14. Really well reasoned La Dee, but gee it's tough on V&B. However, as Roos points out its about having the conversation in a way that will not discourage these boys. With Roos and Co we now have coaching nouse that allows for this to happen in a positive manner.
  15. good comment on frost. give me spring and mobility around the ground any day. this is my problem with Jamar although I thought he did better last w/e.
  16. know its been said before but i loved vanders and newtons game. incredible first up games. no nerves and both so good around the ball. great intensity and hardness. goes back to the northey years when we showed that hardness and take no prisoners attitude. great recruiting nous.
  17. would like to see toby greene on that list. i seem to remember a game at the G when he ran rings around us.
  18. classic. nice to have a laugh this morning. has anyone actually seen BBO? i have always been intrigued by his photo and posts. almost worth taking the risk and giving him a lift to find out after making sure he is in the backseat with seat belt firmly on to ensure he or she cannot get aroused on the journey.
  19. Point taken CBD. you are quite right of course. I should have qualified my remarks at least for the Indian community and said except for cricket and hockey. Indians are passionate about those 2 sports.
  20. Have to look at a players contribution over 4 Q in making selection decisions rather than cast them out based on one or two mistakes. Need to select the best team for next week. For me, the best team has Dawes in it. The sooner we get Hogan, Watts and Dawes playing together the better. I expect that it will take time for these 3 guys to get their act together. W
  21. yep the demon army was amazing. never seen the supporters celebrate each goal so demonstratively and the final 15 minutes was spine tingling. Had this guy run down to the fence in the last Q after each goal and get the chant going returning to his seat with high fives and then repeat again after each goal. Total joy and totally spontaneous and the demon fans just loved it. Sense of great unity.
  22. Regarding the Indian community I wrote to the MFC a few years ago to suggest marketing membership to this sizeable and growing group in melbourne. I got no response at all, but that was a few years ago, a different team on board then. At the same time, support has to be genuine and fairdinkum. One has to remember that for most of us, supporting Melbourne is in our DNA. It has been passed from father or mother to son or daughter and so it goes on. I support the Demons and my two boys support the Demons because my father started taking me to games from the age of 4. For most of us it is part of our identity, it is our tribe, and we live and breath it. You cant just manufacture it. It does not suddenly happen. You can't market that easily to folks without that love of sport, without that love of Aussie Rules and without that family history of involvement and loyalty irrespective of our success or lack of it. It does not have any reason other than our love for our team. It is commitment that has no financial rewards or incentives. Nationalities from SE Asia and the sub-continent are not sport or footy mad like many of us. Just go to any school and see who are the kids playing sport and in particular footy. However, I don't discourage any marketing ideas that can bring us new members. Perhaps you can sell some form of membership or business network opportunities. Ultimately, Indians like the Chinese seek networking opportunities for jobs and business opportunities.
  23. Just happy to see the smiling and happy kids (and their proud but relieved parents) in their Demon gear in the last 5 minutes, at the siren call and leaving the G. That made me smile
  24. This boy just looked the part. Not a big build but played with intensity and showed a desire to be in the action the whole time. No signs of nerves and 100% concentration at all times. Did not shirk any contest. Fought above his weight. He is going to be one hell of a player over the next few years.
  25. The whole team surprised me. Every individual played their part. Pleased to see the older players exceeding past performances but I was surprised with Newton, Brayshaw, and Vandenberg. All 3 were so composed and looked like they belong Day 1. I cannot remember 3 first gamers looking so polished and assured.
