My gut feel is that he's better behind the ball.
-
I know we recruited him for a half-back position, but I suspect Hunt and Hibberd have changed that. I reckon he'll train over summer in an outside wing role.

Scott Thompson - Would we welcome him back?

I agree with you. Weideman is the key and he's probably 4 years off being a week in week out dominant forward. -
So was I.
-
Without question he has the worst ball drop I've ever seen. He is a horrible set shot. His record is an anomaly. He makes Hogan's technique look like Tony Lockett.
-
I thought you'd apreciate my brevity. Obviously not.

So when you're envisaging your 2017 best 22 you have a place reserved for Bugg ? EDIT: just reread your post. We're arguing at cross purposes. You wouldn't have Bugg as best 22 either, which was my point. Jetta O Mac Frost Hunt T Mac Hibberd Melksham Viney Stretch Petracca Hogan Kent Garlett Weideman Watts Gawn Tyson Jones IC: Vince Oliver Brayshaw Salem E: vandenBerg Harmes Trengove Then there's the Buggs of this world. Some may have him as an emergency ahead of Trengove. (I like Trengove and hope he makes best 22, but until I see him quicker on his feet I'll reserve judgement) Bugg is OK, but not much more. Never more than depth for me. Just lacks class and ball use. -
The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here

The more you play for frees the less you get them. You even start missing the ones you should get. Gary Lyon became embarrassing late in his career. Someone should have a word in Hogan's ear. -
There's a resemblance, but Salem is harder - by a bit.

Rohan Connolly shames pathetic Dee's and Tiges

I've done the stats - youngest team for 12 rounds of the year and least experienced for 10. Next youngest Brisbane, who were 7 for both. Just sacked their coach. Yet some are still worried by the youngest team in the comp finishing the last 2 weeks badly. They're more interested in the fade-out than a win against Hawthorn, who don't lose the close ones And it wouldn't surprise me if some of those posters in the preseason couldn't see 10 wins coming. -

Only the dopes. And they repeat it all the time, so it looks like more think that way than actually do. -

Dangerfield won the GF half-time sprint 3 years in a row. Jordan Murdoch thrashed Hunt (4th) in 2014. Dangerfield beat Murdoch in 2013. Dangerfield >>>> Hunt http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-09-27/young-cat-wins-gf-sprint -

Fastest player in the league. It was Judd like at his very best. -
Surely Hunt Deserves a Rising Star Nomination
Gator replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes, they are. I suspect the panel takes a look at consistency with the RS weekly nominations even if it's not mentioned as a factor in their guidelines. it's no real biggie for me, but Hunt has had a great first year and for players like Rioli to have been nominated ahead of him shows a flaw in the makeup of this award. -

I didn't say he was a "line breaker". You said his speed was average for an inside mid, I'm saying it's above average for an inside mid. I agree that it hasn't often been on display, but I disagree with your views on his speed. -

Oliver played 13 games and rated five or more 8 times. He rated above 5 seven times. Five times he rated 7. His average rating was 5.4. -

I'm only interested in discussing his speed - we know everything else. His speed is better than you assume. It's better than average for his role. He ran a 2.99 seconds for 20 metres, which is above average for an inside mid. And even then I wonder if his pace has since improved, as he was trying to get his skin-folds down (96 to 59) for DC. He also ran 8.11 in the agility test, which ranked third at DC. So not only does he have good speed he's very agile and far more agile that your typical inside mid. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/afl-draft-2015-how-clayton-oliver-became-this-years-bolter-after-he-was-snubbed-by-vic-country/news-story/8b3101ee5546515ad780986d366f42c3 Recruiters believe Oliver could be the next Ollie Wines. “They both have big, thick bodies, big long kicks and great attack at man and ball — powerful midfielders with good speed,” one expert said. -
Surely Hunt Deserves a Rising Star Nomination
Gator replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
As a comparison to show how good Hunt's year was, Callum Mills, who is favourite to take out the award, played 20 games and rated 5 or above 18 times. He rated above 5 nine times. Four times he rated 7 or above, including two 8's. His average rating was 5.6 to Hunt's 5.5. One will win the award and the other didn't get a nomination. -

Notwithstanding the fact that he's a superb inside mid Oliver is far from slow. If you have the perception that he is you're mistaken. -

I'm not really making that point, although I know how my post looks. Bugg isn't part of any 2017 side I ever imagine. It's the young players I mentioned that are fixtures in my side.
