  1. What saga ?
  2. There was no media beat up. We tanked. Live with it.
  3. The AFL never wanted to investigate Carlton or us. In the end I think they felt they had to. The publicity generated from that infamous OTC forced their hand.
  4. If I agee I agree, if I don't I don't. If you ask I'll answer honestly, if you don't ask I'll keep my views to myself. That's my version of "real life". Btw, your namesake would disapprove of your "yours".
  5. There are degrees of everything, but the only real success in the AFL is a premiership. Pretty self-explanatory I would have thought. If you want to label those who fall short of that mark "a bunch of losers" that's up to you.
  6. They were blatant, we were blatanter. But who cares about Carlton ? Why measure stupidity against stupidity ?
  7. We were worse than Carlton. Do you need reminding of Hightower on Nathan Brown, Newton on a wing, Junior in defence, Frawley up forward (needs perspective when considering the timeline) ... and the list goes on. But, as I said, don't deflect. We were an embarrassing basket case. There's tanking and then there was Melbourne.
  8. I was discussing our club, not Carlton. You brought up Carlton. Carlton is irrelevant to me. Why would I reference Carlton to mitigate Melbourne's embarrassing efforts ? You can, but it's just a lazy deflection.
  9. Irony. Your analogy of silver or bronze in the Olympics is silly. Being the second or third best in the world in no way equates to making the eight in AFL. I agree that success "can" be relative, but merely graduating to finals is fool's gold. We played finals in 6 of Daniher's 10 years and if you think that in any way equated to success then we read from a different handbook. In our relatively small national competition the only real success is a premiership.
  10. Yes, more comical, although they too were inept. No point using clubs like Carlton as a measuring stick. Look at your own navel.
  11. Losers mentality. Try not to EVER dumb yourself down, no matter the circumstances.
  12. There's tanking and then there's tanking. We took it to comical levels. When current players can sense a toxic culture you're damaging your club from within. Like most things in that period, we couldn't even get tanking right. I agree with the thrust of your comments.
  13. 44% of teams play finals - almost half. Supporters need to stop thinking of finals as some sort of successful benchmark. Richmond proves it isn't. That said, I have no doubt that when we eventually get there, whether it be 2017 or 18, we'll be on the type of incline that will at least lead to a prelim.
  14. It's unusual for me to notice a poster who doesn't contribute often, but I respect your views and nearly always find myself in agreement.
  15. Hopefully Mills wins.
  16. What annoyed me the most was him sticking the boots into our club going back to Connolly's playing days. I'm less concerned by his personal attack, as Connolly can look after himself, but the slight on our club dating back to the 80's was unnecessary and out of line. He'll be reminded of this barb at the appropriate time.
  17. Just saw Dr Hiscock on The Couch and he sounded like some of the delusional flogs on here. It's extraordinary hearing smart men sound like dopes when it comes to footy.
  18. Agree. Only a forward/ruck would come if they were promised every opportunity to get game-time. A genuine ruckman with aspirations would have grave misgivings about coming to a team loaded with the reigning AA.
  19. That's the equivalent of trading pick 17 to Port. Neal-Bullen has zero value in a trade. I first saw Hartlett live when he was 17 in the junior championships at Casey Fields. Boy he looked smooth. The quintessential midfielder. He can kick goals from 60 on the run with ease. But something isn't right. He doesn't get a lot of disposals and just seems to lack consistency. He should be at the peak of his powers and be the last person Port would trade. I'd love him though. Can't see us being in on this unfortunately.
  20. I miss the old Bullring.
  21. For the reasons you mention we probably won't pursue Marchbank. That said, imo Marchbank will be a better player than Oscar.
  22. Drive and quality ball use off half-back has never been more important. Laird, Rampe, Enright and so on are linchpins in their respective teams. Burgoyne, Birchall, Durea, Gibson and Hodge (last 4 left-footers - like Hibberd) are major reasons the Hawk's finished top 4. We have a very young back-line. Hibberd is most definitely a welcome inclusion (hopefully). I'm all for snaring a Tom Mitchell, etc., I just have no idea what the club is trying to do. But I'm confident they're doing all in their power to improve the list. Without a first round draft pick this year there will be limitations.
  23. You do realise that this forum is not official MFC policy and that we have no idea what the club is doing behind the scenes ?
  24. Do it, forget about it and then be thankful you did many years from now. And your kids will always be grateful.
  25. What else would I have meant ?
