Surely Hunt Deserves a Rising Star Nomination
Gator replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Inside Football player ratings are a good guide as to a player's year and consistency. Daniel Rioli played 18 games and rated 5 or above 5 times. He rated above 5 once when he received a 7. Six times he had the inglorious achievement of scoring a 2 out of 10. His average rating was 3.5. Jayden Hunt played 19 games and rated 5 or above 15 times. He rated above 5 twelve times. Five times he rated 7 or above, including an 8. He scored a 2 once. His average rating was 5.5. You be the judge. -
Absolutely. With a consistent run of games he'll become our best ball user. You don't trade out potentially your best distributor.

Scott Thompson - Would we welcome him back?
Gator replied to The Backyard Charizard's topic in Melbourne Demons
Notwithstanding my predilection for overly large shoes I wouldn't be against the idea. 18 games out of Scott Thompson or Tomas Bugg ? Not a hard decision. The value that Viney, Tyson and even Nathan Jones could gain from one year with Thompson would be worthwhile. It will probably come to nothing, but it's not the worst idea I've heard. My main concern would be who he'd keep out. I want Salem, Brayshaw, Oliver, Petracca, and Stretch playing every game next year. With Tyson, Jones, Viney and Vince I'm not sure there'd be room for Thompson in a rotation. -

They certainly have the wood over us, but were the Saints more "consistent" in 2016 ? We finished with a higher percentage and won two more quarters (42 to 40). Notwithstanding their dominance over us and our appalling loss to Essendon I'd contend that we were more consistent. I wonder how they'll go when their band of 30+ players (Riewoldt, Fisher, Dempster, Gilbert, Montagna) retire. -
An accumulator with poor hurt factor. Slow too. Notwithstanding that, he's clearly a very good player. It's a no from me. We have more pressing needs.

Who are the Dees chasing for 2017 and at what cost?
Gator replied to junk's topic in Melbourne Demons
You said "who are our 26-30 year old leaders", not who are we considering. I said "you know we don't have them". It's painful around here. -

I'm hoping they're already on the list. Oliver, Hogan, Petracca... -

Look, I can't agree that either of those u23's are as good from a depth point of view, although the Dogs go close. Pies are clearly inferior and fall away. The Dogs have much better senior players, but once again I can't agree with Collingwood. But yes, our group is desperate for some senior talent. -

Why are you asking me ? You know we don't have them. -

Btw, I agree about the "genuine stars" bit and was discussing this today. That said, our improvement on the back of most often having the youngest and most inexperienced team in the competition augers well for the future. Got to get a couple of outright stars though. -

Gold Coast should. Who do you think the Dogs and Pies top dozen '23 and unders' are ? No hurry and only if you get time... -

Just a quick thinker. But if you won't accept it, what are you going to do about it other than wasting your time waffling on here ? I'm guessing nothing. But at least you got your voice heard. -

So in essence it's nothing more than an emotional state ? Nothing more than fluff really. -

Outside of GWS name other clubs' top dozen '23 and unders' and rank clubs in order of quality. I'll give you our top 12: Oliver, Viney, Hogan, Brayshaw, Petracca, Salem, Tyson, Stretch, Kent, Frost, O. McDonald, Weideman. I doubt you'll find any other club matches that group, so I think your concerns of clubs flying past us off the back of one draft are unwarranted. With Watts and Melksham as other top 10 draft picks in our best 2017 team I count 10 x top 10 draft picks (bid or actual) in the lineup. Name another club that will have 10 top 10 draft picks running around next year. I'm very comfortable with the team that's emerging notwithstanding we may not add the "gun" you crave. -

What does not accepting it look like and how does it differ from accepting it ? -

So you're not going to excuse it ? What does that actually mean and what are you going to do ? -
I wouldn't have had Pendlebury or Scully. Zac Merrett had a better year than Scully.

Well said. Connolly wasn't on his own with a lack of insight. Patrick Smith named 6 teams that "flunked" the year and he included Melbourne, albeit in 6th place. Ridiculous. -
Ignore is your friend, pal.

Captain Obvious.

Thank God. Harvey has been tearing us a new one for years. Glad I won't see him line up against us again.
-
When he first got to the club he was smart enough to know that the culture was putrid and that the list made up of Nancy boys. I'll take those street smarts over any other kind.

My ideal captains have a tough physical edge with a bit of nastiness. See Voss, Carey, Whitten, Matthews, Hodge, Selwood, etc. Viney will be the next captain. I also like Brayshaw's future credentials. No nastiness there, but I think he'll have respect and I like the way he goes about his footy.

Mate, I couldn't care what you or anyone else on here thinks. I just like arguing.
