WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JORDAN LEWIS
Dr evil replied to spirit of norm smith's topic in Melbourne Demons
He was taking offers from virtually every AFL club, it was happening in season, so no i don't believe he was 100% committed, but i do believe he was told he had to at least seem to be, and so were the club officials, so they've told you what they had to and you bought it hook line and sinker because you think you're mates with them. the saddest part is you used to be one of the only posters i would come on demonland to hear from because of your fantastic training reports, photos and asking questions on behalf of posters, but your inability to accept posters rights to have negative views on players is really hurting that and that's a real shame. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JORDAN LEWIS
Dr evil replied to spirit of norm smith's topic in Melbourne Demons
Sat you can't seriously think we played our best defender in the forward line for any reason other than he wasn't going to be in our side long term.. surely? I know Chip and the club told you things at training but understand that these guys are not your mates, you're a supporter and they're told to be nice to supporters. btw the offer on the table from the MFC was every bit as good as the Hawks offer and the Dockers, Cats and Suns had even better offers on the table for him. so again, telling you what he's been told to share with supporters if they ask. -
The question is can he lift, if a regular spot in the best 22 of a team as exciting as ours wasn't a big enough carrot i am not sure what makes the situation so different now. if we are to assume given his age that where his form sits is as good as we're going to get, perhaps someone like Richards would be a better bet, given his age/potential upside. obviously the contract situation makes it very unlikely, but i reckon if Col doesn't bounce back extremely strongly he won't survive.
-
The poster you're referring to didn't suggest paying out his current contract as it sits, just expressed where he felt Col sits, because this is a fan forum he has every right to express his views on this. you have to acknowledge that at his age, given he's spending so much time in the reserves, if he wasn't contracted he would be quite nervous about being cut, the club clearly sees him as little more than insurance at the moment. .

Demonland Crystal Ball 2017: Your predictions for next season
Dr evil replied to P-man's topic in Melbourne Demons
Why do you hold this view? also making an impact on the year is a very different thing to being a consistent role player in the best 22, i think Jack Trengove is very capable of being a role player for us in the best 22. -
Oh for sure, but i think this year the expectation would be to finish between 5th and 9th and then really target a strong finish in 2018 so that's within the time frame anyway. the doggies are a great example of timing their run better than everyone else.

I feel a lot of our improvement will come with time, our players really need 2-3 pre seasons of the same game style to get that understanding of each other, become well drilled in their individual craft and develop an AFL ready body and fitness base, the talent is there it's now just up to development and natural growth. i think our ball use is a big factor for us to make finals, our scores against from turnovers has been a huge worry so Lewis, Hibberd, Melksham and a fully fit Salem should help in that way.
-
we've got a great success rate through the rookie draft so these picks have some value and shouldn't be dismissed as a gamble pick, Jason Taylor has been brilliant at finding Gems and i'd be concerned that we've seen the best Josh Green can be, and it's IMO behind what We already have so we would be better off looking elsewhere. I understand that he's kicked 33 goals one season and 25 another, but one of the biggest knocks on Green is he doesn't work defensively, he might kick 2-3 goals but the opposition set up plays through his opponent, we have done this playing against Brisbane, so that's a concern over his work ethic right away. I'm not of the opinion he has the tank to rotate through the midfield and that's something both Kent and Garlett do which gives them an edge there as well. So at the absolute best form he's shown in his career he'd still be coming in as a depth player that would play mostly at Casey and rely on injuries to get an opportunity, now given he thinks he is worth 500k i'm not sure he'd be so keen on that arrangement either. So based on his 2016 form he's nowhere near our best 22 and not worth looking at, so we're taking a gamble that he can get back to his 2014 form right away, and if he does he's still probably not best 22 for us, he's a depth player at best who might not get much of a look in and seemingly would have no long term place on the list as anything other than depth. He might well get picked up by another club but i would be shocked if he was picked up by us for the reasons i've stated.
-
Pathetic Stuie, but i really shouldn't be surprised.
-
Good job, again totally irrelevant. just making yourself look even more silly.
-
Me feeling that Jeff had a slight form slump has zero relevance to whether or not Josh green would be a good fit, and even less on the "Quality of our small forwards" i have never said Jeff wasn't a class player, just that i felt his form dropped for a patch of this year, as it tends to do for a lot of players. Unlike Josh Green who had a shocking year and has led to him being delisted by a 3 win team that needs small forwards. pretty sad that you went digging through my past comments and couldn't even find one that helped your point. well done Stuie.
-
Just like recruiting a de listed small forward despite having absolutely no need for any more small forwards.
-
Lol righto stuie. you're the one who made the comparison between the two. all i am saying is the Lions have a need for a small forward and delisted him anyway, so there is probably aspects to this we aren't aware of. we don't need a small forward so he doesn't at all fit our recruiting needs, so picking him up as a rookie would be a waste of time, because even if he gets fit and in form he's still behind Kent and Garlett. it's not a good fit for him, and it's not a good fit for us and i reckon that is pretty obvious to most people.
-
No Stuie, you're deflecting. 1. at the time we didn't have the small forward stocks we do now, making it a need, which it currently is not. 2. Garlett had significantly better exposed form at AFL level than what Green does, making him a significantly less speculative recruit. i didn't say that no player de listed from a poor team would get picked up again by a stronger team. i said the % of instances of that happening is extremely low, which it is.
-
Again, pathetic attempt at deflection, i didn't say that. but the % would be extremely low so there would be very few cases of that happening. Yes, but it also means that we require more mids than we do small forwards, we have more than enough small forwards. clutching at straws again.
-
Garlett had kicked 40 plus goals in multiple seasons, Green has never even gone close, bad comparison.
-
I'll make this simple for you Stuie Michie is a midfielder, Green is a small forward.
-
I never said that, pathetic response, deflecting doesn't change the fact you're out of your depth. the organisation you get de listed from or made redundant by has to come into consideration, the Lions have been nothing short of terrible, and they've had retention issues, if Green isn't good enough for them, it makes you wonder why he'd be good enough for a significantly better team/club. i mean unlike you they are in a position to make an informed judgement on his ability as a footballer and a 3 win 60% team in a year they've been awarded a priority pick has judged him as not good enough to be on their list. if you get fired by Maccas for performance that surely says more than being fired from a 5 star establishment for performance. as an example.
-
he'd be behind Stretch, Vince, Hunt, Salem, Melksham, Hibberd, Kent as an outside mid he'd be behind Garlett, Kent, Petracca, Vanders, Trenners, ANB, and any resting mids in our best 22 as a forward. so we'd be recruiting him as speculative depth at best, and to me he'd be a waste of a rookie spot, we could recruit a young guy as a project player and we've had a great record with rookie picks with Harmes and Wagner recent examples of great rookie pickups
-
we're also a team that won 10 games this year and on the rise, and they've won 3 games and been awarded a priority pick. plenty of players in our reserves would have played regular AFL games at the Lions this year, including Viv.
-
Midfield depth, given mids are the highest % player type on an AFL list the better the depth the better the list in this area, and Michie was one of Caseys best all year. he was capable of playing a role at AFL level, though behind several others in the pecking order.
-
Why waste a rookie spot on a terrible player who doesn't even fit our needs? I would much rather Michie and King than Green, at least they fill a need. surely a professional team would understand that a rookie pick could be a good player and not waste their time on a bloke who couldn't even get a run with Brisbane
-
Irrelevant. Green is a very average footballer who's just been delisted from a horrid team. he doesn't even fit the needs of our list so it's not even worth discussing, we have good small forward stocks. your desperation to argue is breathtaking, you're actually arguing that Josh Green would be worth picking up? and to your other point, the % of players de listed who go on to play regular footy at another club is extremely low, listing 5 or 6 that have done it is pointless, shall i list the players who've been delisted and not found a new club?

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JORDAN LEWIS
Dr evil replied to spirit of norm smith's topic in Melbourne Demons
Tom Scully was a 20 year old who was offered an amazing amount of money so i never thought he would do anything but go, i bet if you offered the same money to Brayshaw, Oliver or Petracca they'd take it also. Jordan Lewis on the other hand is an awesome pick up for us, i can see him being a real leader for the club next year and a huge on field asset, should be in our best handful of players right from the word go -
Josh Green is a very average footballer, he's just been de listed by a side that was awarded a priority pick, the same side he could barely get a game for, why would a half decent side like us going anywhere near a spud like that? some players just don't deserve their own thread and Josh Green is one of them, do you think the other fan forums have threads about Dean Terlich?
