The Melbourne - Norwood connection
Palace Dees replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I bought a Redlegs hoodie (very vice) directly from the club when I visited mid year. Spoke to a club employee about the Melbourne/Norwood link and the mutual appreciation we share. He is actually a nephew of Graham Molloy who played for both clubs. He also gave us Norwood member merch for free, which was nice. I love their ground and the suburb to be truthful. We will be watching it on our couch, casting from the AFL app to TV. -
Exactly. Believe me, I don't like Ginnivan and the 'Americanisation' of our sport, on field and off. Nor am I a Hawthorn lover. Knowing one of these sides would lose was the only thing I was looking forward to, other than the excitement all finals bring. The Hinkley apology at his presser has cooled my anger a little but, as Maya Angelou said "When someone shows you who they are, believe them" Hinkley has form. He started the all player hit Max Gawn at every off ball moment, that has been adopted league wide, and is mostly not penalised. Ironically, he played as an 'outside' player himself, but coaches players to snipe, antogonise and intimidate. He has always been an ungracious victor. His club now has to defend his petulant and immature actions instead of celebrating a tight contest and an upcoming Prelim. I am certain he hasn't helped his long term coaching aspirations, despite the victory. Initially, I wondered what Sicily was on about and critical of his actions. Once I saw Kenny the K was the instigator, it all became clear. I then flipped and respected James for backing his team-mate and club, especially as they were coming together to honour a Hawthorn legend. I believe the Swans will have a lot more barracking for them next week than they would have otherwise. I certainly will.

Excellent. It's never too late to see the light.
-
Yeah, nah. One is 21yo texting a former team-mate, the other is a 57yo showing the world what he truly is. The sooner he is sacked, the better.
-
I have never respected Hinkley. Tonight he again showed his lack of class. I didn't think I could like him less, but has he sunk to a low that will be hard for anyone to match. F*wit!

9 times in the first 11 years, but just 2 in the past 14 (so far). Still, an amazing stat.

I'm not in the sack Goodwin camp, but accept no-one at the club is immune from scrutiny, especially in the current climate. Agree that game plans are best formulated and practiced pre season. However, anyone that was at the R.2 game against Hawthorn and saw the rubbish game style they displayed against us, compared to how they play now, will know things can change dramatically, and for the better. You just need the b*lls and the nous to do it.

Behind only Robbie as my favourite all-time Dee to watch live. His 9 goal half against the filth, his Waverley goal, his mark on Garry's head. I saw them all live and so much more. The true 'Wiz' of the AFL. What a player!

Tairon Ah-Mu - No access for Dees NGA Talent
Palace Dees replied to demonglory's topic in Melbourne Demons
Exactly. There is no explanation. Is it both parents born in Aus, hasn't been in long enough, WHAT!? -
Great get WJ. Thanks for posting. I thought I'd watch just a few minutes but couldn't stop. Because of my age, I only vaguely remember the show when it aired. Boy, did we nearly destroy a club. It really showed what the wrong people in charge can do. On other note, no way Tony Charlton would be on Ch.9 nowadays. Far too professional.

When this all settles, if it the end of the day, the code and ALL clubs provide a safer environment for players kicking a ball, I'll be very satisfied,
-
Not the solution to this and similar scenarios that have occurred (albeit, less life threatening) but I would like to see 2 things happen. 1. Just have 5 on the bench. Don't put the pressure on medical staff and coaches to make a sub call. 2. We have a HIA test that requires players to be assessed off ground and not returned for a defined period. Why don't we have the same for suspected internal injuries? Player safety has to be paramount.

Does the club need a full and external review?
Palace Dees replied to DeesignerAU's topic in Melbourne Demons
Morris also said that Shand would run the 'external' review in conjunction with Pert and Green. Also stated that the Football Dept is the focus. Not quite the whole of club, external review I was hoping for and that is required. -
Back on topic: Hopes - less former MFC listed/Casey players playing finals for other clubs and less trade ins playing 99% at Casey.

Sorry to hear Sam Frost will miss the rest of the year through a stress fracture. Would have like him to have had the opportunity to play more finals.

Norwood Go Redleggers!

As a one off, my wife and I attended the MCC/MFC function in the MCC Committe Room in July (Essendon game). We enjoyed the result, the meal and the company. However, when it came to taking up our reserved seats in that section, we got the same response - word for word. Not knowing my wife, they didn't appreciate the danger they immediately put themselves in! The couple next to us (friends of the mover) didn't appreciate our insistance and admitted their seats were further down, but they simply moved up in case it rained. They stated they often ignored the reserved seats and sat where they liked. We agreed to disagree.

Agree with everything you want. Just remember, we will have to pay at least part of Gus's contract for the next 4 years out of the salary cap. Eg. '25. 10% '26. 25% '27. 50% '28. 100% That means some juggling required. Thanks Brayden. 😠

So the bloke who just a fortnight ago was being hailed in the media as the greatest ruckman in the history of the game, not just Melbourne. Who is leading the 2024 AFL player ratings and who will get his 7th AA this year is a big part of the problem? What is that problem? Well, we are now out of the 8! For the first time in 4 years mind you, but shame Max! Demon Discipline says he needs to be more consistent, yet concedes he'd be a long way ahead in the B&F. A complement? No, it's only because the rest of the team are so bad apparently. Shame Max! And I love you WCW, but the 'nudge, nudge, wink, wink' approach is really quite tedious. The Swans are seemingly way ahead at the moment, but remember, their only loss was against a team who had their only win. I don't remember them saying the sky was falling. I was devastated on Sunday, but until then we were 4th in a really even year, Swans excluded. Max has never been an enforcer, it's simply not him. So to tell him to get more physical in a game that is ever increasingly being sanitised is ludicrous. I have always bragged to friends and family that a reason I support the Dees is because our supporters are better. We don't cheer opposition misses on goal and boo every opposition player. Yes, I know I'm delusional in this regard but I like that Fantasy Island in which I live. For my own sanity, I feel I need a break from Demonland. Keep fighting the fight Little Goffy and others. I hope to return when less fragile. Go Dees! 🔴🔵

Believe it or not, who wins the popular vote will not make a scrap of difference. The AFL in the past have given the AA captaincy to non club captains, making it a farce. eg. Franklin, Hawkins etc. Great players, but not great captains in the eyes of their own clubs. Max has been a fantastic player, leader and captain over many years. I am not going to change my respect for who he is and what he has done for our club, and the AFL as a whole, simply because his teammates let him down on the weekend. My whole reasoning for rallying for this is to say we supporters still believe in you Max. He is not the reason for our poor form. He is the only shining light in this storm on and off the field and he deserves our support.
