We must be looking at a different player. In the u18 Championships, he took every mark one grab. It really stood out. His school coach, Matthew Lloyd, says he's the best one grab mark he's ever seen as a junior. Whatever knock you want to put on Armstrong, marking is not it.

Exactly what I see BA. I try to tell myself that at least Smith will be a more damaging, upgraded version, but I just can't unsee the same 'posession first' mentality. I'm sure he still would be a good pick up, but there maybe more genuine match winners available at pick 5.

Inaccuracies of ruckman names aside, your suggestion we wait and hope another year to replace Max concerns me. Max turns 33yo next month. Ruckman, traditionally need time. Will Verall is a fair way off atm and is 'only' 199cm anyway. I recommend you look at vision of Alex Dodson in the u18 Championships. He is a very mobile, high possession, 203cn ruckman. He really only concentrated on football this year, being a top level basketballer. He is the best teen ruck prospect I've seen in years. The great depth of talent this year is the only reason he's not being touted top 10. Even then, I think he will get picked higher than many predict. If we can't manage a pick split, I would still seriously consider him at 9, which will end up at 11 or 12 anyway.

Don't get too hung up on the pick number, 'cause that's all it is at this stage, a number. If we feel there are a couple of players we really like (and suit our needs) that are gettable with later picks, we will look at splitting pick 9.

There seems to be no intention of Fox replaying any u18 championship games. Every avid footy fan is interested in who their club will pick in 17 days, but all we see on Fox Footy are repeat upon repeat of AFLW games and/or the same 'classic' games ad nauseam. They broadcast the u18 games live so they have them to show. It's just lazy broadcasting. I contacted Fox weeks back to suggest they show them and was told my suggestion would be passed on. Yeah, sure.

According to those that know, 24 or 23 in this draft more valuable than usual, including next years. Also, phantom drafts differ wildly, as I'm sure you know, so there is no obvious order. Because of the depth of talent, even if we lose the clubs next higher rated player in one of those swaps, I expect the next option would only be a 1 or 2% rating behind. All hyperthetical of course and I'd be happy if it did or didn't happen. Just slightly happier if it did.

Agree. That's why I was editing when you posted. I'd prefer 24 over 23 for that reason, but 23 would still be great. 😁

I can't help it! I just know there is going be be more wheeling and dealing up to and come draft night. I cant see Richmond taking all 8 picks into this draft. I expect they will trade at least one of their 20's picks for a future first rounder, but I'm thinking also, they may consider the following: We swap picks 5 & 9 for their picks 6, 11 and 24 (first pick in R2 - very valuable) This will leave Richmond 1, 5, 9, 10, 18, 20 and 23 (or a future first rounder - giving them 2 in '25) Given the expected order is so hard to predict, it shouldn't upset our plans too much, except give us an extra qualty pick (Alex Dodson 🤞) I see it as a win for both clubs. I have no doubt we could get a '25 first rounder for pick 24 if we chose to sell before day 2, if we wanted to.

Seems a silly rule to me. Just have 5 interchange. Does any other sport in the world deem it necessary? Genuine question.
