  1. Gysberts for Pederson. Talk about a nil-all draw. At the time I thought we were getting shafted in a big way so I'll take this as a win!! lol
  2. He averaged 24 touches and a goal a game this year.. he does go missing at times but the guy's a ball magnet and match winner on his day. Unfortunately I'm aware of his off-field tendencies too through local Bendigo/Castlemaine lads around his age.. which is enough to put me off.
  3. Honestly, the guy is bad news. Officially the guy has stayed out of any major headlines but one simply does not attract the reputation young Dusty has got without good reason. I don't know him personally but I know people from central Vic that know him and the stories you hear are not ones you'd expect of a professional AFL footballer. I'm sure you can all put the pieces together as to what he allegedly gets up to. Would take him in a heartbeat without the baggage.
  4. Certainly wouldn't surprise me if Jolly ended up with us.. Roos loved him at the Swans, at 32 he would appear to have 1-2 years left max but if he comes free it wouldn't matter that much. Roos did something similar with a 32-year-old Spider Everitt many years back. Probably one of his more unsuccessful recruits it should be said.
  5. No-brainer decisions really. Sellar was useful depth down back but hopeless anywhere else, Gillies was probably the worst player we've recruited since Isaac Weetra, Davis and Tynan didn't do enough in their time here. Couch was an in-betweener (too good for VFL, not good enough for AFL) I'm sure they all gave it their all but there are no surprises there at all. I can see a player in Neville Jetta, while I think Roos could rate Magner more than our last coach. Nicholson would have to be on shaky ground.
  6. I have no idea if he's any good or even what a "GM of footy ops" actually does.. but I have 100% faith in PJ and Roos securing the right man for the position.
  7. Personally I really hope Col stays and think he will. But one could not begrudge him for chasing success in the twilight of his career. If he stays at Melbourne, it means he won't get to experience finals footy again most likely.
  8. A bit sick of the could have, should have, would have threads. If Wines played at Melbourne there'd be a mega thread on his wonky disposal by now. But the guy is a beast and kicked 2 good goals tonight, wiped the smile off Eddie's face. Good on him.
  9. Adam Simpson - 2 x premierships and 300 games as a player (and a respected captain) - Coaching apprenticeship #1: 3 years under Clarkson. - Coaching apprenticeship #2: 3 years under Roos. - Dees coach: 2017 My preference is for Simpson or possibly Tudor. I could certainly live with Ling, but he is coming from ground zero to potentially take over in 3 years.. he will have to be a fast learner.
  10. Comfortably, I reckon. I can remember the buzz and hope that was sold around here (and in the wider community) when the "hard-nosed" Neeld and his assistants came on board.. multiply that by 10 this time round!!
  11. It's funny that after (I think it was) the 148 point to Essendon, some fans on here and other websites were making "Get Paul Roos at any cost" style cries. Not in a million years, I thought. The guy is not interested in coaching, period, let alone a basket case like the MFC> But PJ has done the impossible in a matter of months. Incredible.
  12. So, the way I read it is: Roos to coach the Dees for 3 seasons. A senior assistant will be appointed soon. The senior assistant will then by given a set date to take over from Roos. Correct?
  13. I'd expect there to be a wink-wink nudge-nudge announcement at the B&F tonight - and an official announcement tomorrow (no inside info - just an educated guess) If not, then I'm sure there's another no-name assistant who can spruik a few mean cliches waiting for us out there somewhere... lol..
  14. Any inside info or just guessing? The guy who said 10am presser today has gone missing. But of course I hope you're right
  15. I would hope that in 2014 Sylvia, N.Jones, Viney, Trengove, Toumpas and possibly Aish would be picked ahead of him. That's before any trades/free-agent signings Recent form I'd include McKenzie and maybe even the forgotten man Evans on that list too.
  16. Both had good years. No disrespect meant for Matt Jones but I don't think he will get a game once we draft/trade in better midfield depth. His disposal and decision making are borderline. However given the circumstances this year he has performed admirably. Terlich and Kent are better chances of being long-term players for us, IMO.
  17. While technically it's true I think reason #5 is unfair. Only one flag 8 years ago yes, but another was lost by under a kick and more importantly the Paul Roos' coached sides invariably played well into September. The winning culture and sustained success at the top he had at Sydney is polar-opposites to the Melbourne culture of recent years. Also in relation to reason #5 hypothetically would we pass up Alistair Clarkson (1 time premiership coach, 5 years ago) or Ross Lyon (0 time premiership coach)? #6 is a good point and it's this reason why I'm just as eager to get a team of highly-regarded, successful assistants and footy people to support the Roos regime. If the rumours about Walsh and Tudor are true then that's a very good start. Ling, Kennelly, Micky O also excite me.
  18. I've read enough. Re-hire Neeld immediately.
  19. Source? By the way, can someone enlighten me as to what a HOF does? What were Walsh's duties and responsibilities at Collingwood?
  20. Well actually I switched off the telecast at half-time (had seen enough) - to the boys credit they didn't roll over for a change and I came crawling back midway through the third quarter. Would like to see Kent rotate through the midfield in 2014.. plenty to like with him. Toumpas ball-use again stood out today, a full-pre season and he should make further improvements. I personally would use him off half-back in a Goddard-type role for now. You can put a line through Sellar and Tapscott (IMO).. Jetta on the other hand I still see a bit to like. A tough call for the new coach. Look forward to us dominating the next few months again now. Expect many houses to crumble around the Casey area once pre season kicks off.
  21. I'd expect a substantial improvement from the dismal Mark Neeld "it is what it it is" days... but certainly wouldn't expect any miraculous climbs from the bottom 4 until we get a midfield.. and that won't happen overnight. We're a long way from even the middle of the road sides at present + Roos gameplan and mantra's will take time.
  22. I don't think anyone is expecting dramatic on-field improvement next year just because Roos is there. I for one expect us to be very much bottom 4. Having said that I expect a "Sack Roos" thread as early as Round 5. Let's not forget that Roos is not only a Premiership coach, but he kept a side in the top half of the ladder for nearly a decade straight, without ever needing to bottom out and without the aid of top draft picks. The culture he created up there and his ability to instantly make the MFC an attractive place for players to come/stay is what excites me most.
  23. Well I won't get my hopes up about this - but watching the snippet of video in that article - I'd say Roos to Melbourne is signed, sealed and delivered. The best bit about this is not so much the immediate improvement in on-field success, but for the attractiveness of Melbourne as a club for rival players this off-season. This is where it begins.
  24. I don't know how to dig up old posts, but Mark Neeld was pretty much seen as THE messiah on here during the off-season of 2011/12. I'm sure I bought into the mean cliches he was throwing out.. but have no idea how to find the proof. LOL
  25. Watched most of the game. Gave up halfway through the last quarter (when Douglas took an uncontensted mark in front of goal with no Dee player in sight).. evidently I didn't miss much!! Personally I am not one to criticise team selections much, those who pick the side are paid professionals and have inside info that the public aren't aware of, but the selections for this game IMO were nothing short of a friggin joke. How Magner didn't get a guernsey after 50 touches and sustained VFL form, big bodied clearance player who can tackle, how Cam 'donut king' Pederson got a gig ahead of Gawn perhaps even more baffling. Just ridiculous. Toumpas looks like a running machine and sublime skills by hand and foot. Good game from him today. A perhaps more unpopular opinion on here of late but I think Trenners is playing some MUCH better footy too.. a full pre season for him coming up.
