DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - ROUND 4
Bang Bang Bang replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6 - Nathan Jones: Heart and soul of this footy club. Will go down as an MFC great by the time he's done. 5 - Michael Evans 4 - Shannon Byrnes 3 - Jack Grimes 2 - Max Gawn 1 - Jack Trengove Howe, Sylvia, M. Jones, Terlich good too. You can see why Matt Jones won Box Hill's most consistent player award last year. Watts still plays like a lazy teenage girl. -
Say what you want about the first 3 quarters and the opposition, but given where we are coming from and everything thats surrounding the club, that 12-goal last quarter and win MUST be HUGE for team morale. Nathan Jones is an absolute friggin superstar and I am proud he wears the red and blue! Obv he had a few friends in that last quarter too!!

Too early to say we stuffed up (again) in not picking Wines?

Too early to say we stuffed up (again) in not picking Wines?

I think we all need to relax a bit with Toumpas. YES, his first 3 games have been less than remarkable.. but NO, this guy is not a hack. Look at some of the stuff he was doing against men in 2011 and 2012. We have not seen it at AFL level yet, but it WILL come. Look at his disposal by foot, sublime. Wines is a beauty but we all knew that all along. -
Was going to start a new thread but may as well post it here. A couple of posters on BigFooty reckon there might have been some argy bargy between Frawley and Sylvia at some poncy Melbourne nightclub in the early hours of this morning? Now, BigFooty is hardly gospel, and it's in the "Scandals and Rumours" section of the website to boot, but why can't I help but believe this one.
-
The guy was SA-captain, tore up the Championships and performed admirably at SANFL level. I think he'll be OK in the long run, writing him off now is ludicrous but atm he's a long way off. Wines was always going to be better early.
-
Yep. I'm starting to think that Garland just isn't AFL-standard. I'm sure he cares out there and tries his best, but quality wise, I just think he's lacking. Have thought this for a while. Throw in Frawley who is still living off his AA-season from 3 years ago, McDonald who competes well but gives away multiple goals through his own doing and I think we have a problem. Bring back Gillies! (Just joking)
-
Biggest plus for me was Tapscott. Quiet start but had a nice purple patch in the second quarter and just looked AFL-quality. Had him written off after Round 1, maybe too soon. Also Neeld has brought in some rubbish recruits but Matt Jones has been one of his good ones. Can win the footy and use it well.

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Round 3
Bang Bang Bang replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6 - N. Jones 5 - M. Jones 4 - Tapscott 3 - Sylvia 2 - Clark 1 - Terlich -
Very worrying second half. The bottom line is that we have at least 5 (probably more) players running around that are just not up to AFL-standard. Mark Jamar should have his contract torn up and be shown the door. Fed up with him. Cox is a superstar but the amount of times he was in a paddock forward of the centre was ludicrous. Players today who earnt their stripes, or went up in my estimations as AFL players were Tapscott, M. Jones, Terlich. Players who I think we need to stop kidding ourselves over, and realise are probably not AFL-standard anymore (or perhaps never were): Byrnes, Garland, Sellar
-
I actually don't mind the "Ins". At the moment we have no run - Bail, Evans and Jetta can help there (ever so slightly). Tapscott was a monty after 6 goals in VFL, and Pederson is miles better than Gillies (then again that's not saying much). Watts is a pea heart and career officially at the crossroads. Disappointed Jamar stays. Blease very stiff.
-
I don't necessarily agree with the move but given the circumstances it's worth trying anything. I wish we weren't so diabolicaly crap at present because WCE at the MCG would be a very winnable game if we were anywhere near our best. Alas not.
-
I thought he was finished before tonight but he was all class early on. Encouraging signs.
-
The biggest mistake we have made in recent memory was signing up this pretender and allowing R. Lyon to slip through to Freo. I expect him to be sacked overnight.
-
I think most of the players are trying but we're still going to lose by 100 points. Gillies is probably the worst player I've seen in red and blue since Damian Gaspar. Jamar is a joke. Sellar is not AFL-quality forward. Shift him back. Neeld will not be around in 2014. ps. Well done Aaron Davey for having a go out there. He's not finished just yet.
-
Not expecting miracles first up but he needs to start finding more of the footy to take that next step. His season high last year was 22 I think, that's painfully low for a starting mid. And a career high of 29. He doesn't seem to be a natural ball winner which is a concern, but he has other tricks that will get him through for now.
-
I remember a similarly themed "We should have drafted Kane Tenace" after his first game in 2004. You don't make these calls after one game. You wait.
-
Typical MFC player. Highly rated at draft time, plays a ripping first game and leaves you thinking "we have a gem on our hands here". Proceeds to gradually turn to crap with every passing game since.
-
I listened to the game on Triple M. Carey and Schwass didn't hold back and used words such as insipid, embarrassing, putrid. It's clearly an attitude problem with too many players. You'd have someone like Jack Viney who would go back to the rooms and be hurting on the inside, then you have Mr "Losing doesn't bother me" Watts who's probably sitting there thinking about how many Pink Bacardi Breezers he'll sip through a straw tonight. We are a bottom 4 side on talent but the effort today was as if we barely cared.
-
Who remembers that quote from Watts a year or 2 back "Losing doesn't bother me". Says it all really.
-
Genuinely need the mercy rule.
-
This is just about on a par with 186-gate.
-
Carey calling us an embarrassment. He's right.
-
Will Neeld see out the season? Seriously I'm normally not one to adopt a "sky is falling down" attitude after one game but this is disgusting.
-
This is so crap. For all his mean cliches, Neeld has actually taken this team backwards. At least under DB we occasionally played footy that was worth watching. God we suck.
