I remember when we tried emulating Brisbane in 2003 by targeting big-bodied midfielders. I remember when we tried emulating Geelong's attacking game plan in 2008-09. I remember Neeld trying to emulate Collingwood's boundary line game plan in 2012. None worked. I think we're done playing catch up.

Today was his long-awaited appointment to see where things are at, the date Misson has been banging on about for weeks now. Clearly the appointment went well and Petracca is happy for his friend. Some people don't get that?

Rockliff had 14 touches. For some perspective, that's his lowest possession tally since Round 9 2011 where he also had 14. Round 6 2010 was the last time he had less. Not only did Viney negate his impact, he was able to get 23 touches himself. We're not talking about a Simon Godfrey tagger here, we're talking about one that do damage the other way. I'd be shocked if he didn't get maximum votes in the Coaches award.

28.11 for the year. His approach doesn't inspire confidence but it seems to work. He's no Ben Holland, that's for sure!

I thought the umpiring was poor today. Brisbane kicked 4 goals, two of which were directly from questionable umpiring decisions. There's absolutely no that should have been 50 against JKH, and Christensen's free kick in the last was marginal at best (his constant staging never helps the situation). But the one part of umpiring that gets me, and it happened again today (JKH first quarter) is when they randomly ping us for HTB due to the player 'not making a genuine attempt'. Pretty [censored] hard to make an attempt when you have no prior opportunity and the ball is pinned to you. Always against us.

It feels like yesterday that we played St.Kilda and here we are playing them again. Meanwhile, we played the Suns in Round 1 and won't be seeing them again for at least 8 months, and we haven't played Carlton in 15 months. Strange fixturing! Not that it really matters.

Salem is going to play in the development league next week, if all goes to plan. He's absolutely no chance of playing against St.Kilda. In. Riley, Newton Out. JKH, ANB JKH is a worry, if you're small and not fast then you need to be clean and creative, he was neither today. ANB had no impact as the sub so I'd give him a spell.

If we beat St.Kilda, Carlton and pinch one of the games at Etihad, that gives us 8 wins and a decent season. Any more would be a bonus.

Another match-winning performance! I was watching on the TV, but his second goal looked he was kicking from 50m and it cleared the fence. So while LONG kicking is not his strength, he does have it in him.

Viney is an absolute gun. Kept the ball magnet Rockliff to 14 possessions while racking up 23 himself.

Not the greatest of wins but we can't be too picky. I would have taken a win in any format today, in true Melbourne-style we probably couldn't have won any uglier than that. We're on 5 wins now, so the improvement from 2014 (4 wins) and 2013 (2 wins) is on show. How we beat Geelong without Hogan is an absolute mystery. He's already our best player.

He kicked 3 in his last game and 2 the one before that. Given he has barely played in two years due to injuries, he's coming good at the right time and showing consistent form in the past month. I'd have no hesitation giving him another year, surely we have enough OOC spuds that we can cut before him. JKH is contracted for another 2-3 years from memory. He won't be worried.

Hunt will definitely get a new contract now you'd think, possibly even a senior game before the year's out. Fortunes can change fast!

Goodwin to Adelaide Dew to Melbourne as Senior Assistant Roos to stay on one extra year. Everyone's happy. I very much doubt Goodwin is going anywhere though.

What about Toby Greene and Cam McCarthy from GWS? Their heads are both more punchable than Danihers!
