  1. Losing Vanders or Global Warming..... I wonder which is more likely.
  2. I think we also mentioned he would likely get his 5th flag as well.
  3. Imagine! I would be livid if I had been working in my role, built this incredibly successful work team, took less money than elsewhere to make sure we succeeded.... then once we had done it my employer went out and employed peanuts on more money than me. I would leave without a doubt.
  4. Haha very true. Unless the Gold Coast are willing to chuck a heap of money his way (doubt it), I don't see the benefit for him to uproot his family and move to the GC.
  5. I disagree. He's had probably over a week to think about everything and would have likely already made his mind up. Plus I doubt teammates would get involved in this type of thing as they are all their own man. He will do what is best for himself and no one else.
  6. Really pumped to see this Gibberd guy. Heard he was a bit of a hybrid player in the mold of Gibbs and Hibberd mixed into one player!
  7. Hartung is just not that great a player. Even in one of the best midfield in the competition he still couldn't average more than 20 touches a game.
  8. It does seem really strange that you would go to all the trouble of putting together a contract and discussing particulars, only to just backflip after a conversation in the afternoon? Surely you would go away and give it thought if you were that determined to leave in the first place. Very strange.
  9. I wonder is something like that has occurred, forcing Lewis to look around. Now that Mitchell has all but agreed to go the Hawks are trying to back track and maybe Lewis is keen on a fresh start as well? Interesting.
  10. Totally agree with you. Just think it's an incredible start to a career. Wonder what the best is, probably a young guy who joined Melbourne in the 50's & 60's
  11. I highly doubt he is losing sleep. He's probably got other deals he wants to do with the 2016 2nd round pick.
  12. I actually don't mind it at the right price. The addition of Lewis and Hibberd could easily help us jump into the top 8 next season. From there it becomes a lot easier to attract free agents or players via a trade. I feel like with the addition of free agency and players choosing where they want to go, the value of picks outside the top 10 have dropped dramatically.
  13. You should see what goes on in US sports. For example, someone traded a player in the NHL for a 3rd round pick, however part of the agreement was that if said player scores more than 15 goals they get the 2nd round pick. Imagine including those types of clauses- we trade a future 2nd rounder for Hibberd, however if he averages over 20 touches it turns into a first.
  14. How's Brad Hill. 5 seasons played. 3 premierships hahaha
  15. Really? I thought for sure Sam Mitchell had 10 years left...... It is just my opinion after watching Tom Mitchell in a number of games this year. I'll be very interested to see how he goes for the Hawks.
  16. They won 4 in 8 years so of course it would be a great ratio. And I definitely agree they were one of the greatest sides of all time. I guess I believe O'meara is a massive risk and personally I'm hoping it doesn't work out well for them. I also think Tom Mitchell is a bit over rated, gets a lot of the ball but nowhere near as damaging as a guy like Sam Mitchell, who they may be losing. Maybe I'm biased because I want them to fail, but I just don't think they can replace these great players without going back down for a while. Plus it will get harder for them to bring in good talent as they start to realise they aren't a sure bet for top 8.
  17. It's only related to where they finish, all the other clubs mentioned got their deals done as well but just had to use the picks they have? If we finish top 8 next season and have a good player want to come to us we will also get a deal done for a similar pick because that is just how it works these days. Seriously, everyone needs to get over the Hawks, they don't do anything other than lure players and to be honest I doubt the path they are heading down at the moment. We will beat them next year.
  18. I wonder if we will get a deal done today........ Always get so impatient waiting for something to happen!
  19. I would definitely do that if I were the Bombers recruiting team. They missed a whole draft so taking two top 10 picks instead of one would be gold for them. And it would work for GWS as well since they have a million first rounders.
  20. Stay away from sharp objects Picket......
  21. This is the only way. The US use free agency works well because it works both ways. Players can be traded to any club without their permission while not a free agent, however, once a free agent they can also move anywhere and the team they were playing for isn't compensated. At the moment we have free agency, plus we have a system where players need to agree to trades and therefore 90% of the time get to the club of their choosing anyway. Something has to change with the system!
  22. I think that's where we come in with a trade for Lewis....
  23. I agree. You need more than Tom Mitchell, Tyrone Vickery and Jaeger O'Meara to make top 4. Especially with guys like Burgoyne, Gibson, Hodge, Mitchell & Roughhead nearing the end. The other side of it is the reason they were so successful is they were a well oiled machine. It will take a little while to actually oil the machine again and there is no guarantee it will ever get near the heights they had.
  24. I'd say the assumption is that picks are always going to slide each year with free agency and academy picks. I imagine we are wanting to use our current 2nd round pick on another deal.
