I don't have any 'news' I'm just looking at it from a players perspective. If Melbourne was offering me a bit more cash than Geelong I don't see why I wouldn't take it when you take into account the youngsters there.
-
1) He wants to move back to Melbourne 2) We can offer him more money then most Victorian clubs 3) He views Melbourne's young players as better than Geelong's at the moment
-
The media just talk about Geelong but I've got a good feeling about this. We would have a heap of cash to spend and would likely front end load the contract to ensure we can still spend money on Hogan, Brayshaw, Salem and Petracca in future years.

Great to have this bloke (McCartney) at the club

Hahaha probably because the club pays him a pittance. -
Paul Roos heralds more onfield changes at Demons

If we can't get Dangerfield as a FA then trading pick 6 for Bennell should be number one priority. If we can't get him then any of, Redden, Selwood, Mayes, Aish should be on our radar. -
Delistings/trades at end of the season

I think all journalists will list Melbourne targeting X midfielder. It's common knowledge. -
The other side of it is we won't have to worry about diluting any compensation if we go for free agents.
-
I was more throwing it out there seeing if people here think it would be worth our first pick for both? Or would we rather use that pick in the draft.
-
Great news for Dream Team and Super coach fans! Nothing worse than finding out your player has been given the vest!
-
Picket I hope that after Sunday I feel the same way!
-
I agree he is not ranked very highly AT THE MOMENT. However, he is ahead of the following: M Jones, Terlich, Riley, Mckenzie, Bail, Hunt in the midfield stakes. That is 6 players who should go before him. If this trade period someone offered up something ridiculous (e.g. a first round draft pick) then I'd entertain trading him. But if we aren't getting much then those 6 need to go first.
-
Would anyone entertain trading our first pick for Mayes and Aish? Would it be possible?

Good for him if true. -
That was a very quick bit of research but happy to do more. My point is if this club can't develop players like Toumpas then we are screwed. And the other point is this is a shallow draft year and he has no currency. What is the point of trading him for say a 3rd round pick if it nets us a player equal or probably worse? I really hope he comes good next season to stick it up all of you negative supporters.

His 25 disposal 2 goal game shows he is capable. Just need that on a more consistent basis. My hope is that another pre-season will see him fully over his hip issues....

2015 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
DistrACTION Jackson replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think either Francis or Curnow will be a great addition. Would give us one of the biggest midfield in the coming years. Brayshaw- 187cm 88kg Petracca- 186cm 94kg Tyson- 186cm 81kg Vandenberg- 188cm 90kg Watts- 196cm 88kg Francis- 190cm 86kg Curnow- 191cm 95kg -
I agree we need good players in for the here and now. My point is that the best sides are steadfast in their development and show patience. If we continually cut young players because they aren't playing their best after 3 seasons we will forever be at the bottom of the ladder and we would deserve it.

I was thinking about Toumpas and the cr*p he cops on here and then thought, what do clubs like Hawthorn and Geelong do with underperforming young players. It seems it a lot of instances they back in their development and keep faith. Hawks: Alex Woodward- drafted in 2011 and had a horror run with knee injuries (still on Hawks list) Geelong: Daniel Menzel- drafted 2009 and again a horror run with injuries (still on the list) West Coast: Brad Sheppard- drafted in 2009 and has taken a long time to develop. Having his best season in 2015. Chris Masten- drafted in 2007 and played his first decent season in 2012. Sydney: Large amount of swans play in the reserves for the start of their career. Harry Cunningham: drafted 2012- just starting to show good signs. Obviously they also have young players who play straight off the bat but it goes to show that there's no right or wrong way. If we don't back in our development with Toumpas then the club may as well fold as we will never develop a premiership side.
-
I guarantee we will be offering a very large contract for him. Whether he wants to join us is another question.
-
I really liked Cross but Kelly is quicker and a much better user off half back so I don't see the merit in that comment.
-
Would like us to go after James Kelly as a de-listed free agent. He would slot in nicely as a replacement for Daniel Cross in our back line.

I really want us to take Curnow first pick and then try and pick up a speedy outside runner with our second pick. He seems like he will be a brute of a midfielder. -
Delistings/trades at end of the season
DistrACTION Jackson replied to Northern Summer's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'd say it depends on what is on offer from the draft and other clubs. No point paying them out if what we are getting for them is not any better. It may mean that we keep them one more year as extreme depth and move them on next season. -
Delistings/trades at end of the season
DistrACTION Jackson replied to Northern Summer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Cross, Jamar, Bail, Fitzpatrick, McKenzie and Riley are all definite to retire or be de-listed. M. Jones, Terlich, Michie and Hunt are possibilities to be de-listed (Michie unlikely). Dawes, Howe, Garland and Grimes are all possibilities for trades and free agency. That's 14 players I think could possibly be moving on at the end of this year depending on how it plays out.
