So is Hogan out for 2 or 1 with an early plea? The AFL site is saying he will miss both Geelong and Freo games. I just watched the Thompson hit- I do not understand how the MRP come up with their deliberations. That was far more forceful and dangerous than anything Lewis or Hogan did. The inconsistency is incredible.

AFL Round 2 - Non MFC Games (2017)

Also, we should really go out and get Josh Kelly. Went to school with Jayden Hunt and Christian Salem. He would complement our tough on ballers perfectly. -
AFL Round 2 - Non MFC Games (2017)
DistrACTION Jackson replied to Cards13's topic in Melbourne Demons
The AFL gave the GC and GWS a heap of picks and money to try and get the clubs successful straight away. They gave GWS the most and they are obviously now a very very strong side. But I really question the long term viability of both. Even if GWS win the flag this year and maybe even another 2 or 3, eventually they will be back to having the same picks and salary cap as everyone else. Once that happens they will completely fall apart. There will be no one turning up, players will just walk out as who would want to play in front of 10,000 people every week when other teams average over 35,000 every game. What a waste of time, money and talent it will be. -

I concur. He should cop the same as Watts. He is 200cm and can't take a contested grab -
I wonder how he is feeling about his move now..... ha ha ha.

I wonder if we will advertise them on the back of our jumpers?

I was also thinking this.

How about Cripps v Oliver.

Early picks are definitely very important, but I would argue the later picks are just as important. If you take the Hawks for example, they definitely nailed their early picks in Hodge, Lewis, Franklin, Roughead and Riloi. However, what they were also able to do is get some really good players with mid-late picks as well. Sam Mitchell: Pick 36 Isaac Smith: Pick 19 (not as late but still a good selection) Liam Shiels: Pick 34 Taylor Dureya: Pick 69 Luke Breust: Pick 77 Paul Puopolo: Pick 66 If you nail the late picks and ensure you are getting the majority of early picks right you have the opportunity to build a very strong side. Fingers crossed we've been able to do that!

Darwins theory of Sporting evolution
DistrACTION Jackson replied to george_on_the_outer's topic in Melbourne Demons
This guy has put numbers and statistics into something I have thought for a long period. The main reason the Cats and Hawks were so successful is that they built their sides from the ground up and were able to build incredible cohesion and teamwork. Obviously recruiting goes a long way as well, but by building a team first ethos it made them nearly unbeatable. Fast forward to now and they are both spending big, trying to lure players to keep staying on top. It is this reason why I believe they will not win another flag if they continue with this method. Obviously the Hawks are only in the second season since they won, but the theory is still the same and I'll be very interested in how they go over the next few seasons. I am very happy with where are team is at and they seem to be building a great team first mentality. Whether that translates into a premiership only time will tell. -
Demonland Player of the Year - Round 1

6- Clayton Oliver 5- Max Gawn 4- Nathan Jones 3- Jesse Hogan 2- Jordan Lewis 1- Tom McDonald -
It is amazing how Watts has copped so much and this guy nothing. Played one good game, in the biggest game of course.

I think both sides have gotten stronger in regards to personnel and games into youngsters. No Montagna helps us. But no Tyson doesn't help as he is a gun at his best. Hopefully Riewoldt is starting to drop off......

Melbourne 2017 ladder prediction

True. The level of commentary has really reached new lows. Most people are only interested in a few clubs and literally don't even know players name. Pretty poor when that is your job! -

As much as I loathe David King's commentary, I hope he is correct on this occasion. -

Don't think they can as there is the Hawks v Dons game on that night. Unless they made it an afternoon match instead of twilight......

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-03-20/etihad-stadium-racing-against-time-to-be-fit-for-round-one Ridiculous. That stadium is seriously a disgrace. If anyone goes down with a LTI there will be a lot of very angry people!

AFLW Round 7 - Melbourne V Fremantle
DistrACTION Jackson replied to Dee Gee's topic in AFLW Melbourne Demons
Ran some calculations.... definitely won't get through on percentage. It would take a Crows win by a point plus both teams would need to score over 60 points. Hopefully the Pies win or it's a draw! -
My biggest concern is if we go into this game without Kent & Garlett. ANB really is not in the same class as these two as a small forward and lacks their pace. I really hope both can play in the Casey practice match and get enough match fitness to play Round 1. I'd also like to see Dion Johnstone get a full run in that Casey game as well as I've heard good things about him.

I hate it with a passion! That is why I wrote to the club to complain and give some recommendations. I will guarantee we will not have that jumper next season. -

DistrACTION Jackson replied to McQueen's topic in Melbourne Demons
I agree. I think we either go Hogan, Watts & Weideman or Hogan, Watts & Spencer (at this stage). I'd say at Etihad I'd go the former and have Watts back up ruck and at the G on a clear day I'd think about using Spencer. I still think if Pederson is the better option this year over Weideman then he must play where available. We need to win at all costs, not play young guys based on potential. If his form warrants it then he can push him out.
