  1. I am all for rules to protect players health, particular in relation to concussion. The problem I have is thatI believe the AFL are more about protecting its own liability than the players. Acts that are dangerous and have a high potential to cause harm (punches, elbows, and even bumps) how unpunished when cousin doesn't occur. Unlikely accidents, like the Nik Nat tackle, are punished because of the result and the need for the AFL to be ale to say "look, it was illegal, so not our fault". The AFL needs to: -Punish any act which is high risk and against the rules -Stamp out high bumps, elbows, etc, particular from front on and coning in sideways "across" the other player (ie hitting the head fron the side -Teach and enforce players to turn their own bodies to take the contact on the hip and shoulder -Penalise players who lead with the head or who instigate high contact through actions like ducking or shrugging The occasional concussion that will occur after that will be manageable. It will rarely be repeat concussions because they will be accidental and not game or individual style.
  2. I think you're probably right about boat and sailing, and looking back he only averaged 15 disposals in his 28 games, im wondering if i remember him better for his effort than his output. I think Brayshaw's rise has made things hard, pushing Tyson out and putting VDB down the end of the line. That being said, I personally think he had more upside than Maynard, who got games this year. Similiar hard at it inside mid but with the additional bow strings of strong over head and knows where the goals are. He has had a run of injuries over 3.5 years though: shoulder, hamstring, ankle, hip, heel stress fracture, ankle again. Maybe it just isn't meant to be.
  3. Where do you see him fitting? There are a few ahead of him in various roles right now: Tyson as inside mid, garlett as a small forward, if garlett pushes back in for one of the mid forwards, they'll be there too. VanDemon plays strong overhead but Pedo and Weid/Smith are playing well. I feel he plays a similar role to Tracc, but with a better engine. When he broke into the scene he got to play almost anywhere because we were terrible but what will his role be when he returns, and who will he be trying to push out?
  4. Perfect call. Both Vince and Lewis stay info the list until someone pushes them off. I'm hoping Hunt can do that, but right now they are holding their own.
  5. I had a quick look andI can't find us winning mote than 4 in a row since at least 2006. Unsure how far back we'd need to go to hit 14. It's been an impressive run.
  6. Disagree. As usualI thought the umpires did apoor job but at 26-20 free kicks you can say they favoured us. Also that free to Fritsch was there. The holding of his jumper stopped him jumping for the ball.
  7. Lol
  8. Ooh id like to know the answer to this
  9. We have won 14 consecutive quarters.
  10. 6 Lever 5 Melksham 4 Brayshaw 3 Jones 2 T Mac 1 Lewis Tough to select today.
  11. If you don't even kick a behind your accuracy stats are unaffected. 1.9 still.
  12. Thanks Nasher and Andy, your efforts to get this up are appreciated!

    New 'rule'

Makes complete sense to me. Also I hope they get stricter on blocking in marking contests. Outt was slats against the rules to shepperd or block someone trying to mark the ball. If you want to bring back the one on one's and the old style football, then start pinging blokes for blocking in marking contests and sheeparding more than 5m off the ball.
  14. I believe an effective disposal is: -A handball that is recieved -A short kick to an uncontested position -A long kick (40+m) to a 50/50 or better contest
  15. He was credited with 4 goal assists, as per my screen shot. He was also credited with 4 score involvements, presumably for the same acts.
  16. Most on field. I agree we want more statistical impact from him, but the forward line is functioning well; Weid isn't losing contests, and isn't getting in the way of the other forwards. So why change it?
  17. 4 goal assists wasn't a bad return
  18. Sorry, I just saw the short reply and didn't realise there was more to come. I am happy to admit that I like Weid as I think he has some good attributes and want him to succeed. I agree that we want to see him lift his statistical output especially in terms of marks around the ground. But from watching games I see a young bloke working hard. I see a young bloke who is rarely used as a target. And I see 3 consecutive wins where our other 3 talls have flourished. To me the things aren't isolated. Drop Weid and what happens to our structures? I feel he has been playing a big role in that success, regardless of his statistical performance. I haven't seen him do anything wrong. He isn't losing many contests. Doesnt make mistakes with the few disposals he gets. He doesn't get in the way of the other key forwards. I'm genuinely interested in what others are seeing. If it just that you think Pedo offers more, that's fine. I can accept that, although I'm not sure I agree (as Nasher said Pedo plays best info a no.1 role not as a support). But I dont understand the criticism of the Weids game and haven't seen anyone explain i the criticism other than by highlighting his low disposal count.
  19. And this is why you arent convincing anyone.
  20. Other than poor stats though, you keep saying he didn't play well, bit haven't explained why. Those "for" Weid talk about his running patterns, making space for the other forwards, score involvement, not losing contests etc. Those against just say "he wasn't good" and I want to know why they think that, if it isn't just stats. Our forward line is working and we're winning. Why change the structure?
  21. This is only true if Pedo works well with Hogan and TMac. I'm starting to wonder if Weid is playing the decoy 3rd tall role better than Pedo would, staying out of the way of the others, dragging defenders out of the way and openimg up space. Either that (or possibly as well as that) it seems the players don't trust him just yet. He isn't often used even when leading, with the preference being tho kick to others. Perhaps the coaches are with his work rate and patterns and are giving time for the rest of the team to get used to kicking to where he'll be.
  22. The best part is that the G is where we play the majority of our games. It is much easier to fix something that you get repeat exposure to, and practice implementing work arounds, than somewhere you only play twice a year. I'd rather be good everywhere else but need to learn to play the G than be good at the G and need to learn to win away
  23. I don't believe that stat. I'm sure I saw him get a few.
  24. Agree with comments on both the weed and on joeboy. Re the Weed, i watched his positioning today and it was clear he was no. 3. He was very rarely the target, typically ran the decoys or dragged defenders away from the pack. The ball mostly went towards TMac or Gawn. I think this will change as he clunks more and becomes trusted. But he is playing his role well and the forward line is clicking so i wouldn't change anything.
  25. Nothing will happen. The replay only shows the angle from behind Hogan, so you can't see Carlisles left arm swing up and hit Hogan in the throat. Watch slowly and you see the action. I think Hogan's fall was genuine, more because he was hit in the throat off guard and sort of stumbled over.
