  1. you should have read that the umpires cost us the game. maybe it was a misprint.
  2. agree entirely with jaded on this one...bell played a fantastic game, his effort chasing into the goal square was second to none all day and deserves its own thread...he runs hard, he's not too bad following the lead, he is strong and spoils well. he has been one of our most consistant backmen all year. if you cant see him as at least breaking even then you obviously aren't watching close enough...
  3. thats the problem - they didnt. the holding the ball rule is one of the fundamental rules of our game. you cant run with it, you need to bounce it occassionally. body contact is allowed as long as the ball is within 5 metres and you don't hold a player (unless he has the ball). the mark. the scoring system. the holding the ball rule. if you have the ball you must use it. if you have prior opportunity, it is holding the ball if you are tackled and retarded. that means if you get the ball, run 5 metres get tackled and pulled off your line, it is holding the ball. if you get swung in a circle, it is holding the ball. if you fall over it is holding the ball. if you didnt have prior oppertunity you must dispose of the ball immediately other wise it is holding the ball. you cannot just hold it because you didnt have prior opportunity. the exceptions. if the ball is knocked free in the process of the tackle. if the ball is pinned to a player by another player. dropping the ball when you are tackled (not having it knocked out of your hands) is holding the ball. trying to break a tackle and failing and then looking to handpass to the second option is holding the ball. grabbing the ball and holding on without trying to get rid of it, while you are being tackled is holding the ball. this rule is not paid and it should be...
  4. ammend that jaded. cross out the word hospital
  5. even better, if he is not scoring with the glamours, hopefully he goes and find a girl whos quick and strong...better for the genes...
  6. beat me too it jaded...sounds better coming from you. be careful everyone, every chance we will get a bagging from germain greer now for something...
  7. im not sure what that has to do with anything, but thanks for the heads up...
  8. im a big miller fan brey but i think he will be unlucky. we can't carry 4 talls in the forward line at once, it doesnt work like that. you also have yze and byron to fit in somewhere...today we played 2 talls for most of the day, bate was probably the 3rd tall and miller sometimes...4 won't work. 1 or 2 will be on the bench all day. im not saying miller has to be dropped. im saying that if we bring newton in a forward has to go. miller has been the forward who hasnt performed the last 2 weeks unfortunately that means he misses out. the other option is, warnock goes and miller to the back line, but i dont like that option...
  9. we need him to get the 100 games for the father son rule...
  10. i know this comes up occassionally, but i cant believe how slow the afl site lacks to load and to simply do anything. they could learn alot from baggygreen.com which is fantastic with its cricket coverage...
  11. there is no problem with the rule. there never has been, it is how people wish to interpret it. you could never, and still cant, place your hands on and opponents back. if a player backs into you no worries. you cannot ever get leverage with your hands, but balance should be fine. the reason they tightened down on the rule was so there was no grey area cos the umpires didnt call it properly. now there is no excuse for the umpires. apparently you cannot 'oush' with a forearm or closed fist. thats bs, of course you can...
  12. correct, but you cannot deny the kid has serious potential...he can kick it 60m with accuracy, he can mark. he can wion his own footy. he can run- both fast and all day. he has the hair to catch the umpires eyes... he is out of form. he isnt kicking well. he is looking up instead of picking the ball up cleanly. today with a bit of confidence he started grabbing everything and kicked a couple...he will be a player. a star? im not sure, but he will play a few games no worries.
  13. well he was on 21 touches at 3/4 time and he had less than 24 for the game so maybe...dunno anything else though...
  14. do you reckon anyone really tries to teach him to kick?
  15. moloney and bell have been two of our best this year. havnt you been watching the games? bell played like a star today, he was fantastic... sylvia, well he has been discussed in another thread. and to think you brought up morecroft speaks volumes for your footy understanding...
  16. demon josh i didnt think he did too badly. he is never going to be one of our big possie winners, but he is about impact. a few possies, the big tackles. he looks fat, but he is quick when he needs to be and i thought he looked alright today. he is a match winner, and a big game player who adds toughness to our side. im a believer that we need him in. he will only get better...
  17. 2.8 is terrible. i cant see why proffessional footballers can be that bad at kicking for goal...
  18. what did sylvia do?

very good point. i didnt think he was the worst today. he seems to just go...needs to step up a gear. burst some makes, make a contest. then again, if he'd kicked two today he wouldve had a great game...
  20. davey wont go. umpire was standing there and didnt think it was worth a report. that should be enough evidence as you need. it wasnt malicious. he didnt hit him hard either...
  21. and why bother paying a freekick off the ball that has no bearing on the contest? just to be part of the action...
  22. if newton doesnt get a run next week i'd be surprised. thats 11 goals in 2 weeks surely thats enough to justify a run in the senior side? miller is unlucky i think. he had a poor first game but has come back strongly. rounds 2-4 were good. he was stuffed around last week by moving him to CHB but recovered alright. he doesnt kick enough goals when neitz is in the team. right now i think he is probably a long term prospect, post neitz. but he is unlucky terrible today, average last week just as neitz comes back from injury and juice hits some straps. the only problem with a straight swap is, is juice strong enough at CHF. dunn is a bit slight, a flanker size really. is playing newton alongside him there a risk?
  23. i heard he played a half down there...but if he played on kingsley or riewoldt he cant of done too well...
  24. interesting, they gave best on to bate on triple m. at first i disagreed and i then i thought about it. it was pretty even, he kicked a couple and had a lot of footy...
