  1. we dont want to be a begger no doubt. once we have cleared the debt and have a home we will be able to start accumulating cash with which we can invest. we have made some poor investment choices like buying a hotel that was denied pokies but once we are debt free hopefully we can start using the CBF money to make our own money. we can invest in buisnesses and even shares (see collingwood) if thats what it takes, but we cant do that while we have no money. its a hard cycle, you need to have money to make money, atm we have no money and we need the afl handout. once we are above zero i think you'll see us solidify our position quickly. if only we could get 10 thousand more members we would be set.
  2. yze averages .9 goals per game but average 1.5 against collingwood, his second favorite team to score against. he average 2.5 against fitzroy... his average possessions against collingwood are however only 15.5 down on his average of 18.3, and his 3rd lowest against any team (brisbane bears and fitzroy being the other lowest). sort of suggests that when he plays up forward and kicks goals he doesnt get as much footy as when he plays down back and doesnt kick goals doesnt it? makes a lot of sense.
  3. no doubt he'll be back up to play against us. he always rips us a new one...actually i found this page kent kingsly stats he averages 2.7 goals a game against us, career average is 1.9, the only team he kicks more against is essendon (3.1). he doesnt get picked much for the tiges considering he has played 124 games for 238 goals...thats not a bad record really... im not arguing with you there it seems like a lot but thats only 13 of their 22 (not sure if any bench players are afl). 9 of the sandy 18 are melb listed players and 8 of the 12 interchange are melb listed. sandy only ever plays 12 melb listed because thats all it can do it the finals. 13 isnt really that much more is it? i reckon given he has been having soft tissue injuries they will bring him back with half a game. also we won last week and our backline was pretty good. id be dissapointed if players who played well just got dropped. that being said, if he was 100% fit and ready to play 100% of the game he would be straight in. even if it wasnt a curtain raiser if it started at 11 so we could get down and watch it first, or even play it on sunday...
  4. not really...we were testing and recording both in and out of competition for 'recreational' drugs. the only afl players who ave tested positive to recreational drugs (under the 3 strike system) had to be positives out of competition because otherwise they would have been suspended. fwiw i believe the season is entirely in competition, not sure how much of the off season is considered in competition. ben just has never tested positive. which suggests he was never using drugs when he was tested. maybe he was a user who got lucky, who became an addict over the preseason? a drug habbit can be different that an addict.
  5. if he doesnt get up now i reckon this will be the end of him...
  6. petterd wont be dropped dont worry. he has been playing fantastic footy and none of the ins would play his position (except yze) and yze wouldnt do it as well...
  7. we'd have to mate him with all sorts of girls...tall with strong hands, short fast and agile, and stocky with a good engine...
  8. i dont think dunn came in because we werent going to drop any of our marking forwards - neitz, bate and robbo all kicked goals and did alright. if he kicks 4 or 5 more this week he'll have a pressing case. there is also no way we could fit dunn and newton into that side...
  9. still prohibited IN competition. i never said it wasnt. if they get tested on holiday and test positive for methamphet and for steroids they will only be in trouble for the steroids. cousins never tested positive to anything, let alone in competition. if anything, the suggestion is he has used drugs on holidays, during preseason and on big nights out after a game. i9m not defending him. i wouldnt want him at our club. but there is a difference between methamphet and steroids that has now been established by the wada documentation.
  10. i think an interesting point is made by steve harris that yes we recieving the CBF handout from the AFL but other clubs recieved other concessions. geelong got $5 million to build a stadium and then they sell the seats as reserve seats to make money. the AFL are giving st kilda money to redevelop a base. sydney and brisbane get salary cap concessions and sydney gets handouts too. collingwood, yes they have more supporters, but they also get more games at the g getting bigger crowds. the other interstate sides have the advantage of captive and gauranteed supporter bases and therefore big crowds. in all the places we miss out the CBF is their too make up for it a bit. i dont believe it will be short term, i think it will be long term and the afl are realising this too.
  11. on the wada site their is a file called the 2007 list of banned substances 2007 banned substances this document is broken up into a number of different sections. the section which methamphetamine is listed under is 'substances and methods prohibited in competition'. it is not listed as a performance enhancing substance, and it is not listed as prohibited out of competition.
  12. the only good thing about the site. the news is average, the video feed ive found to be slow, the site takes ages to load, and the stats are useless...
  13. i think holland is a better option than frawley for rocca at theis stage and it is a toss up between those two for the last tall defensive spot. has rocca been playing close to goal or CHF? perhaps carrol could take him if he is close to goal letting frawley play instead of holland? PJ and petterd are certainties and i think the last spot is between brown and yze. i think yze may be risked if davey doesnt get up but otherwise he might not be, remember he had suspected OP.
  14. so straight swap then? miller for reiwolt?
  15. i think we lost our second round pick in 200, perhaps our 3rd also... we got thompson with pick 16 breese with 62 funcke with 72 mitchell craig with 80. we also got godfrey (not 1999 according to wikipedia) along with james cook and steven pitt from the preseason. and broadbridge from the rookie list. that season hurt us, because thompson and broadbridge would both be handy about now. 2001 saw us get tingay and nick gill in the preseason draft. luke molan, steven armstrong, aaron rogers and brad miller came from the national draft that year. 2002 got: daniel bell 14 nick smith 15 gary moorcroft 39 cameron hunter 54 ryan ferguson 66 heffernan preseason, and jamar rookie. nick smith was bad luck and the essendon boys didnt work out for us...
  16. didnt we also loose picks in 2000?
  17. i found this quote in the report by steve harris which is currently on the mfc website which documents the success of recent times off field, i thought it was interesting. It is testimony to the hard work of many people across the Club -- board, management team, football department -- that in the past three to four years we have lifted membership by 40%, total revenue by 50%, improved our net asset position by $3 million and experienced a $5 million improvement in our debt position. which groups and individuals have you seen or heard him put down needlessly? im sorry but i havnt witnessed this and im keen to hear about it if it happened.
  18. thats a ridiculous argument. ive never injected myself with steroids but i know they promote muscle growth. i know willow bark tea is a pain killer, and i know that poppy tea can make you high and sleepy (among other things). ive never taken laxatives but i know what type of effect they would have on me while i was trying to play football. these chemicals dont work in random ways bandwagon, there is a whole heap of scientific knowledge out there. ice is related to amphetamines which are a stimulant. from wikipedia a range of effects of methampetamines include: * Euphoria * Increased energy and attentiveness * Diarrhea, nausea * Loss of appetite, insomnia, tremor, jaw-clenching (Bruxism) * Agitation, compulsive fascination with repetitive tasks (Punding) * Talkativeness, irritability, panic attacks * Increased libido * Dilated pupils while not a definitive collection or the most reliable source this list suggest ice is not going to make you bigger and stronger than your opposition. run faster than them, or catch a ball better than them. it might increase the thrill involved in the game, increase the players alertness but it could also cause panic attacks when they play in front of 50,000 ppl, make them try and hump the umpire or throw up at quarter time. fwiw ben cousins has been tested 14 times and has always come back clean. justin charles was caught. thats enough to get him kicked out of the game. ive made my feelings on this issue known and im not gonna bother to argue any more. if you still think that ice would improve performance you're not listening or you have a different idea aobut performance enhancing than the rest of the world. im not saying its right. im not saying ben should get off, but you have to look at this situation rationally, not just jump up and down because you are have issues with drugs.
  19. is it just me or given that the games on monday is it not a long time away to be ruling out a player with a corky?
  20. it goes to show how hard we suffered when we lost draft picks for the salary cap thing...
  21. i actually think we've got more chance of getting judd. the only way we'll get judd is if he nominates that he wants to come to us putting us in the bargaining seat. however i would be very happy if nick pulled on the red and blue...
  22. i spose that really does bring a new meaning to 'takes one for the team' doesnt it?
  23.   fwiw tho i think he will be on the list next year unless we get a great trade for him. his size and body shape are too rare to just get rid ofand i think he will continue to get a chance...i dont think he should be playing for the dees tho atm
  24. do you think that should be wadas policy too? no other sport (except rugby league) gets out of competition testing for recreational drugs. FWIW, regarding ice helping him, i highly doubt it would. there is a reason why it is not listed as a performance enhancing drug but that caffeine is. you dont get kicked out for having levels of caffeine but they know that caffeine is performance enhancing. drugs might effect people differently, but it doesnt make one person high and out of their mind while turning the other into a supreme athlete. their ios a clear difference between recreational drugs and performance enhancing drugs which has been established by scientists and acknowledge by all relevant drug testing and sport governing bodies.
