I imagine this has been asked/answered previously but can someone confirm who is hearing the case? There is a retired County Court judge but is he presiding on his own? He is clearly not an AFL crony, so that surely works in the favour getting a just outcome.
-
I tend to agree. I cannot believe this has gotten through ASADA, a retired Judge and the Anti-Doping Rule Violation Panel who have all concluded that sufficient evidence existed against the players, to be brought to trial, but that there is actually "no evidence".

(Assuming the players did indeed take a banned substance) Enough discussion on whether the players are victims or cheats. Both cases are possible but regardless, the outcomes are the same. It is a player's RESPONSIBILITY to know what they are taking, regardless of the advice they received. It is the player's RESPONSIBILITY to ensure that advice is correct. The players failed in that responsibility and now must wear the punishment. There is no way to prove the difference between wilful ignorance and naive trust thus the responsibility is the player's, and the player's alone.

Andy my reading of the rule interprets that the punishment could be retrospective, and doesn't have to be applied to future results. So the AFL COULD punish the team by stripping them of all points and results from the 2012 AFL season. Remember they didn't lose their points, they were excluded from the finals. I am wondering now if that decision was a calculated move. -
I'd we can somehow snare a win round one...

Disagree. Out isn't just that. Though they are pumped to be together. The relationship Angus has with Roos is a plus. They are happy to be at Melbourne. It isn't Essendon. It isn't st kilda. It may not be getting drafted to Hawthorn BUT it isn't horrible anymore to come to roos and the dees. -

"He's gonna kill me!" Fantastic clip. There was something about those two. I've never seen draftees come to Melbourne that just looked like they were going to make it. They oozed confidence together. I hoe we see that on the field. Amazing. -

Does that mean Dangerfield is coming to Melbourne? -

I'm going to borrow this. Well said. -
If we want to attract a Dangerfield or similar we will need to offer them a 4 or 5 year deal on mega bucks. Jones should not be asked to take a lesser than market amount and then be slapped in the face with that.

I understand that the players have to apply for the stayed penalty and that any eventual penalty will only begin after the "stayed" penalty. I.e. If they apply for one and all players get 12 months, their 12 months will begin later. Personally I think the AFL would be foolish to grant then for these nothing matches, especially because they are on the international stage. I am interested to know of the provisional suspension bans them from training at/with the club. -
http://m.couriermail.com.au/sport/afl/dom-barry-quits-afl-leaves-melbourne-to-return-home/story-fnia42zr-1227120387215 I haven't seen this on an MFC source yet. If true I'm not to disappointed. Opens up a spot.

I agree with this based on what I've heard from club support staff from other AFL clubs. The word I resourced was the suggestion of 60+ hour weeks is not true, with many coaches heading home mid arvo to pick kids up from school. Much of the preparation work is undertaken by IT guys who prepare video footage, lower level "analysts" who review and write reports on opposition players and teams etc. The coaches read a brief report to the team, plan a training session then go home. Running staff take running sessions. Weights staff take weights sessions. Rehab staff take rehab sessions. Yes the coaches attend most of these but other than the "football drills" they don't do half what they make out they do. Apparently.

A question RE the ADRVP and the AFL convened Anti-Doping Tribunal. Are players placed on the register of findings by the ADRVP suspended pending the Anti-Doping Tribunal hearing? Assuming a player appeals to the Administratiove Appeals Tribunal (and ultimately the CoAS) against a suspension handed by the AFL Anti-Doping Tribunal, do the players serve the suspensions during the appeals process? In usual courts of law you may be remanded, or you may be free until you have exhausted all appeals. I'm not sure how it works with the WADA code. -
Cheers guys. When you think about it, that is an amazing amount of recycling, from all ladder position (top, middle and bottom). Suggests that a) player movement is quiet common (despite the AFLPA wanting to increase it) and b) player development/satisfaction/retention at all clubs is no sure thing. Sports the current discussions regarding the lottery of the draft.

Same surgeon I'll have later this year. I'll see what info I can glean.

Calling all historical statisticians. I wonder what the record is for "number of players who have previously played for other clubs playing for a new team"? Next year we could potentially have 11 lining up in the one team: Heritier Lumumba Jeff Garlett Sam Frost Ben Newton Bernie Vince Daniel Cross Dom Tyson Viv Michie Aidan Riley Chris Dawes Cameron Pederson Dean Terlich was on a Sydney rookie list (0 games) may make 12 players previously listed by other clubs in the one Melbourne team. Of that batch, Cross is the only player who may retire at years end, which means if we add a couple more via trade/FA we could potentially field ~15 ex-opposition players at once in 2016. Importantly, when you combine those 11 with a bunch of younger players (i.e. Viney, Salem, Hogan, Toumpas, Kent, JKH, Gawn, Stretch, McDonald, Pick 2, Pick 3), and a couple of existing quality senior players who are either largely unaffected by the turbulant years or who have grown through them recently (i.e. Jones, Dunn, Garland) the bulk of our list has been "un-Melbournised".

My favourite bio by far was the description of Matthew Warnock and his power point. But I really think Ferguson is looking the goods... -
I have no problem with this. I love the monogram. It is a logo, which is perfect for branding on shirts etc. I also quite like the emblem which I think had its place in a formal context ie letterheads. Why not both?

As someone who knows nothing about the "science of recruiting" slash "predicting how a young player will translate to AFL" I still have a major concern that the a player like McCartin, a large lump of a kid who clearly bullies everyone lse around based on size, weight and reach will not be able to play the sane game at AFL level. Can anyone comment on why they think he will be just a effective at AFL level when his size is the norm not the exception?

"I've had five coaches in six years. You can only imagine if your boss changes every year almost, it's hard to keep consistency," Blease said. "As a result, I feel that moving to a new club with a 7th coach is the best move for my career."

Trengove AND Evans to the rookie list lets us use 53 of we are interested to.

On one side I love his aggression, attack on the ball and man, size and commitment to contests. I love natural footballers. Something the MFC has lacked for long time. On the other hand, I am concerned about his lack of apparent fitness and the possibility that he will be a bit one dimensional in the forward line, and that at AFL level, he may be found lacking as other players are now equal to him in size, negating his main advantage from his junior days. If the under 18s version of McCartin is what we will get at AFL then he is a good pick up, but I'm concerned out won't translate and that a mid will be a safer bet.
