  1. Gorringe is full of himself. I cannot stand that kid. Let him go home to SA. Clark would be a good pick up, but Freo will have an open wallet with the departure of Sandilands, McPharlin and possibly Pavlich.
  2. If he got Wines we wouldn't have Tyson, Salem, Brayshaw and a whole heap of first year players. Is Wines good? Absolutely. But.. Let's give these other kids time, stop crying over spilt milk. I don't even include Toumpas in the equation, I never have, I just see it as - things have panned out for us in other ways. Look at the bright side. Just like losing Scully, there is a bright side. Christian Salem will be twice the player Ollie Wines will be, that isn't to downplay Wines either. If we'd of landed Wines, who knows whether we'd of been in a position to land the messiah (Salem) and Tyson.
  3. Frawley was useless. Very average football player. Tom McDonald is no star himself, but it is an insult to compare him to Frawley. MFC dodged 2 bullets with Scully and Frawley. It is like the football gods finally smiled down upon us.
  4. I'd like to see what Newton and Vandenberg have before we rush Brayshaw in. We've hit the jackpot the past 2 years with Salem and Brayshaw.
  5. Good footballer's like Fyfe and Barlow can play anywhere. Nat Fyfe could play forward, midfield, back, wing, and probably even ruck. Freo might have started this trend, but there are more 190cm mids who fail - then succeed. It isn't a height thing though. It is a football thing. A lot of 190 plus guys are athletes, they aren't suited to the midfield, alot of them are 'two touch' players, and lack hand eye IMO. Roughead succeeds in the midfield because he has decent football skills, and has an above average hand eye - from his days as a basketballer. I hope this trend continues with clubs though, I hope they follow the Freo model - then MFC can snag some Luke Parker's in the draft, on the cheap.
  6. I think Roos main focus should be structures, skills and defensive foundations. Those are solid investments for our future. I think Roos is doing 2 out of 3. But our skills need work. He is doing a great job Roosy, it isn't easy to coach a side of players who aren't up to the required level. It is Roos job to get these guys to that level, but it is going to take some time. Be patient.
  7. Brayshaw will need to work on his conditioning if he is to play AFL, that I can deal with. Viney and Toumpas need to work on more serious problems - actual skill/game issues. I hope Roos drops both Viney and Toumpas to Casey. Both will be very good players, but they need to iron out some simple flaws in their game.
  8. The AFL are predominately socialist, they won't be folding/merging any club. Commonsense doesn't prevail with this mob, lucky for us I guess.
  9. After last night, I'd nearly take that.
  10. Yeah I could quite easily see that comparison. I was thinking last night that Viney should've been strapped to Jones during pre-season. Early on in his career N.Jones was not dissimilar to Viney, in that they both had one pace - flat out. Jones has learnt to harness his pace and aggression and use it more instrumentally. Because of this, Jones evasiveness now stands out. But atm Jack Viney goes too hard too soon. The fact that Viney hasn't rectified this after the past couple of years says to me that he mightn't be the sharpest tool in the shed.
  11. I've never subscribed to the 'development theory'. In the past we plain and simply drafted the wrong blokes. When you don't draft footballers - you don't get footballers. Even coming into the season this year, off limited vision of Vandenberg and hearing him rack up big numbers, my first thought was that this guy is a footballer. Dom Tyson, pure footballer. Brayshaw = footballer. I think we've changed our drafting strategy, when it proves a success - people will claim it is because we've fixed our development. I guess we'll never know, but IMO we just picked athletic types in the past - when we should've been picking footballers.
  12. We should be aiming to goal off every centre bounce clearance. Which means we'd need cleaner disposal going inside 50. Salem is our answer, but he is also our answer down back. Vandenberg could possibly fill the role as kicker. Our kicking is a bit of a worry atm. We have a guy (Vandenberg) who has just came out the NEAFL who looks a better kick - and player - than 90% of our side.
  13. Yeah, at the time of the draft I didn't see the hype. I watched the nationals and didn't see him as top line player. That being said, I do think he can be an important player for the club, he just has a lot of weaknesses to work on atm.
  14. Yeah, I thought he was ordinary. He is learning the game, and learning his own game. I think he should do so at Casey. He'll be a player, I just think he needs time.
  15. Good: Nathan Jones, Vanders, Salem, Watts, Dunn, Dawes, Garlett. Bad: A lot of our list. Terrible: Matt Jones and Rohan Bail.
  16. Pull your head in. Try stick to the topic, if you are capable of that.
  17. Vandenberg was good against Freo as well. He is versatile, clean, and he lowers his eyes - which is a rare thing at this football club. I love that he pushes forward and kicks goals, he looks very capable and already on the level.
  18. I thought Viney was ok tonight. He does make the odd error, but he is a young kid. We expect too much from these kids too soon. I think Viney needs to work on his composure, decision making and needs to time his run better. I think Jack needs to find 2 levels to his running game, he is bit full bore. He needs to sometimes tread water, then go full noise. The fact that he goes just one pace means that his inside game suffers, his decision making suffers, and he becomes a one dimensional player. If he works on his flaws and corrects his running game, he'll be an elite level player. I think he will reach that level.
  19. No one is baying for his blood. Viney was good tonight, he makes the odd error and unfortunately made one at the wrong time. Hopefully he learns from it, he is a little bit rushed and probably needs to work on his composure - and decision making.
  20. Essendon are playing a side not quite up to AFL level, I didn't expect we'd beat them. We aren't quite up to the level. But on the upside, we are building a nice young list. With Brayshaw, Petracca, Stretch, ANB and McDonald all yet to play, I'm not too worried. In the past 2 years we've unearthed potential guns in Tyson and Salem, we've also drafted well. I think we'll be ok in the future, but for the time being we are a sub par football side. I think Toumpas will be a real player, but he needs to go back to VFL and work on his weaknesses.
  21. Matt Jones gives away far too many frees. He just has no judgement. How many does this kid have to give away - before we give him away.
  22. That is why I think he needs a full year at Casey. Toumpas panics far too much for AFL atm. He needs a full years work as an inside midfielder.
  23. I wouldn't play Matt Jones or Bail. Neither are up to AFL level.
  24. Absolute lock. We will make him available, he is ahead of half our list - at least.
  25. Toumpas wouldn't be in my round 1 side. He is terrible by hand, absolutely deplorable. Toumpas needs to spend a full year in the midfield at Casey. He needs to become an inside midfielder, the game of AFL won't allow just outside players. Toumpas has no touch on the inside, he really needs it, It stands out like a beacon.
