The confidence you get from playing well in any of the leagues can't be undervalued. So, so important to taste success. Roos will give him a few more weeks down there to get his confidence higher and higher, which will hopefully translate to smarter and cleaner disposal. Not sure what to make of Trenners but looks like he had very little impact today. Can't see him getting back into the ones until he can string together 2 or 3 really strong matches in the twos.
-
I think Salem will blossom within 5 or 6 matches, give him time. Think PJ was spot on when he said our team will really look better in the second half of the year when Hogan/Salem/Toumpas/JKH/Viney are all settled in.

Roos mentioned he was considering Jones on Ablett. If anyone can shut him down, Jones can. Shut down Ablett, you shut down the Suns.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BILLY STRETCH

Why is Stretch allowed to train with us? Some sort of conditional rule regarding father/son picks? -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BILLY STRETCH
SaberFang replied to e25's topic in Melbourne Demons
Is it just me or has Billy put on some serious size over the last few months? Not the skinny rake he looked like last time I saw him. -
This will be the year the AFL community at large recognizes Jonesy as the elite gun us Dees diehards have seen for years. Not sure what to make of the JKH situation. Arguably chose the selfish option but it garnered 6 points. Doesn't explain why he was ignored in the West Coast match.
-
Is there a reason most of the team don't seem to congratulate JKH when he scores? I noticed this the other week with his first AFL goal. Only one or two players celebrated with him. Then Dawes walked right past him at the end of the game to embrace another player (Viney I think), think I saw Frawley do the same. Something we don't know?
-
Whatever pick we get for Frawley needs to be traded for a forward and a lower first round pick. Just like the Dyson deal last year.
-
Walker is a mouthwatering idea and having his best mate here at the Dees helps. Adelaide's player retention has a horrible record (not that I'm complaining). HOWEVER, is targeting another potentially injury prone disaster the best idea for us right now? It's a big gamble after Clark.

Interesting idea - Hire Clark as club photographer

There isn't much you can do photographically at a training session. It's... training. And Melbourne's rainy and overcast most of the footy season. He needs to be as far away from the club as he can to try and get some normality back into his life. Watching his healthy former teammates training the house down would only resurrect painful and lingering memories. He needs to put it behind him and move on, if he's to recover successfully from this. -
Has there been any word from the playing group about this? I know it's a delicate situation but just hoping they're holding up ok. This is where the leaders in that club absolutely have to step up and unite the group.
-
And once Riley is off the LTI list he'll take the final spot. Georgiou will keep his senior list promotion. That's it.
-
To those fantasizing about Wines, save yourselves the disappointment and forget it. He only just extended his contact and no sane player leaves a club as strongly cultured as Port. They're on fire at the moment. They'll make him vice captain within two years, probably captain within 3 or 4.
-
Interesting that Robbo said on 360 tonight that Frawley should be embarassed about his $800k asking price. Said teams baulked at the amount when his management brought it up. Chip, you either get the money and a long road to success, or instant success without the money. You don't get both. Brian Lake took a paycut to join the Hawks because he was starved of success.
-
Well his bargaining position would be trying to get Melbourne to pay overs knowing we have the cap space, but trying his luck to see the highest he can get from rival clubs. It's hard to say what the club would do if forced to choose between Chip and guaranteed pick 2 compensation. Depends on who's available from other clubs and who is at the top end of the draft. Two Josh Kelly types straight into the team would help for next season. Isn't this years draft meant to be littered with talls?
-
I think I know what Roos is trying to get at with Casey. Development against smaller bodies. A chance to get a W and not the endless L's playing at the MFC. A chance to hone their skills without being destroyed across the ground. We've thrown our draftees to the wolves and Roos is trying to correct this. I support the move fully. Part of the reason the elite teams stay so successful is because their draftees are forced to spend a few years developing at VFL level before they go near the AFL. We throw them under the bus and look dumbfounded when they don't bring instant success at AFL level.
-
Well the ratings for the Dees / WC match last week were the lowest of the year if I'm right. Says a lot about how unmarketable we are.
-
Ironically yes, all 3 would have been very helpful given our injury list.
-
7000 for the match today is pathetic. The AFL are so, so misguided if they think they stand a chance in the Western Sydney market.
-
Disagree. We need senior players to come in and make an instant impact and blood in our youth. Look at what Chapman did to Essendon. Cross for us. Mumford for GWS. And so forth..
-
Two goals for Kelly. [censored]. And JKH injured. I'm done.
-
Spot on. I can't stand St Kilda but full credit to them. They never give up and want to prove the critics wrong at all costs. We don't have that drive for success.
-
All this rubbish about him being overpaid. Well if not him then who? Who would you rather got that money? Almost nobody on our list is earning their keep and playing footy equitable to the money they're on. Except Jones. I fully expect that man will get all of $700k a year over 5 years for his next contract.
-
And that's the difference between us and the Saints. The Saints want to win and want respect after a preseason full of criticism. Something our team completely lacks. I think once again the playing group has just expected everything to fall into place with the appointment of Roos. Roos better use this as ammunition tomorrow, it really shows us up for how poor we are with basic effort.
-
Only early but Saints leading West Coast. At Paterson's. Last week West Coast were up by 6 goals against us at the same time. FML we are so far behind.
