The continuing saga of Melbourne's injury list - 2014
SaberFang replied to alpha33's topic in Melbourne Demons
Well they said a month ago June would be his likely debut. I'm still guessing 6 weeks until he plays in the ones. -
Well the leadership group is basically down to 4 with Clark out and Trengove done for the season. Frawley could well be gone by next year so I'd expect a very different looking group of 6 next year. Grimes needs to step up his game, because I could name 2 or 3 others I'd rather be captains on the field than him.

Let the kid play an AFL game first.

I love this bloke! To think the Bulldogs freely let him go... their loss, our gain clearly. Can't wait to see what gun players get delisted at the end of this season that we can snap up. ROK would have to be in Roos' sights?
-
Little champion if true. Hopefully a 4 year extension for Jones is next on the cards. He should be our highest paid player.

Jack Trengove out for year with navicular fracture
SaberFang replied to Arrow's topic in Melbourne Demons
Could take him a few years to get back to that point unfortunately. -
Well seeing as he just signed a (four year?) contract extension with us, he's not going anywhere.
-
Can anyone believe we got JKH for pick 40?? Can't name another pick from 20 onwards in last year's draft that's shown as much potential as him.
-
Jetta would have been smart. Watts would have been making a statement. He made a lot of comments alluding to the fact that turnovers don't bother him as much as players who just don't put in the effort. I'm getting a better understanding of Roos' ethos and decisionmaking every week. He persists with Terlich because, despite the shonky turnovers, there's always effort. I've been saying the same thing about our list. I'd rather have a team of less skilled but harder working players, than one filled with skilled players that amble around with their head in the clouds. Terlich and Pederson still get games based on that mantra.

Evans only got 1 quarter and a bit, but he's doing well. Got a goal and had another would-be goal smothered at the last moment. He showed his chops in the GWS match last year, before being injured. Keep Salem at Casey for half the season, he's only had 3 VFL games. He needs a lot longer to find his feet.

Was nice to see Dermie (I think) on the telly earlier in the week defending our trade and speaking a lot of sense. Basically saying for the position our club was in, getting two very good players (one established) was a better deal than getting one potentially great player. If Salem blossoms the way we hope he does, plenty of media "experts" will have egg on their faces (the smug faces of Tim Watson, Luke Darcy and Wayne Carey spring to mind, with their brain cell obliterating rubbish on Talking Footy).

He'd look like a right royal goose if he wasn't, given the way he sprayed JKH for that freak goal he did score last week.
-
Interesting that Roos says he regrets subbing Tyson off. Any guesses who he probably wishes he'd subbed instead. Could also tell read between the lines and tell he was unimpressed with the umpiring, especially the ridiculous Ablett free kick. That one stings. As Roosy says, he's a good enough player without being gifted free kicks inside 50 that would be ignored for 99% of other players.

Dawes is absolutely filthy on himself on the official website: http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/2014-04-20/rd-5-chris-dawes-interview Says he blew a lot of his chances.
-
Bernie's form has definitely dropped off. He looked like a superstar in the NAB cup but he goes missing when he needs to start stepping up and leading our team.
-
The sooner we get Riley in to show half our list how to play a physical game, the better. I think another few games from Watts like that, they should be an almost straight swap.
-
There's a clear upswing of potential with JKH. We might only see flashes of it this year, but in 2 or 3 years I could easily see him as one of our best, game savvy players. Byrnes is toast.
-
JKH bought himself game time because of his stellar NAB cup performance against Richmond. Don't get a debut much better than that. His training habits are also exceptional and he's shown good form so far.
-
We have taken a noticeable hit defensively without Frawley down back. GC just marked every ridiculous kick into their 50, we couldn't get any clean possessions the whole game.
-
I like Georgiou but he's a depth player moving forward. Interested to hear why Tyson was subbed out. Jetta deserved a chance based on form but blew it. Just zero impact on the field. Find it hard to believe he'll be back next week.
-
Roos could make a statement with some changes next week, but that wasn't a loss of the magnitude against West Coast. We're hanging in there and being competitive, but we're a long way from dominating any teams. It's frustrating that we've lost 3 very winnable games now though, especially looking at the month of misery we're in for. It's going to be a hard slog, and we'll be stuck with VFL level talent until we can turnover the list in October. Keep Salem at Casey for a while longer, Roos will want to see who stands up against the elite teams we're facing in the next month.
-
Think we'll see quite a few changes after that one. So many skill errors and Watts is now exposed for all to see. We'll be a much better side with Kent, Hogan, Salem and Garland playing. Can drop some deadweight. And I still rate Evans, that was a great goal. He's a sneaky kick that guy. JKH fantastic with a lot of flare, which so much of our team lacks.

While I'm [censored] about the umpiring that did cost us the game, inaccurate kicking from Dawes' set shots is also to blame. But yeah, [censored] the umpiring. Was absolute [censored] when Ablett got that free kick and whatever dumbass umpire made that call needs to be dropped from the league. What an embarassment.
-
And a soft, absolutely [censored] free kick costs us the game. That is absolutely [censored] disgusting.

Captain's goal! We can do this! Come on!!!!
