  1. Q E D Means there wasnt a policy at all. Just a misperception.
  2. Lets focus on a Chinese team in the AFL in 2013. Its more likely than the irrelevant SOO arrangement. Really punching up the Irish in the hybrid rules has more interest. Why increase the risk of injuries to your top players on such a nothing farce? The pre season competition is a glammed up pre season practice match and necessary for the development for the main season. At a time when we are trying to spell our players in the middle of the season, another Circus is being considered. And I am sure Nick Riewoldt will treat playing for the Allies as a career highlight. RIP SOO.
  3. People have either short memories about Juniors importance or are dramatically short sighted in bleating about the omissions. Amazing. Welcome back Junior.
  4. Its ludicrous. Given our midfield stocks and our difficulty to find players to readily off load of our list, why would we chase a 8yr player who has promised alot but failed to deliver on the talent? Hw wont come cheap and offer little to our existing arrangements.
  5. Its worse for North if you measure the last 12 months. His spot is the most dicey. Its all part of the concern for the Ashes coming up. Within the Test team for the first time in over 20 years we do not have any elite performing players. It would be interesting to see Clarke's averages since England. Suffered a bad bingle and his batting has suffered. I think only Watson and Katich may have respectable numbers.
  6. Totally agree. Quite the case indeed. Or its applied when a fringe player is picked for his first game (ever or in a while) and that he should get 4 to 6 games in a row. The reason given is that "we can see if he is up to it". This is often said by posters who sometimes forget just how much the Footy Dept examine and review all list players.
  7. If that is the case and Beamer and Junior are fit to play (not partially!) then I would have thought it would be: In Beamer, Junior Out: PJ, Maric
  8. Spot on. I would not gloss too much on Maric's game at this point. In a game which was devoid of sustained opposition pressure, Maric just went without doing anything that stood out as special. He may well get better as a player but I thought he did little to command a spot ahead of more accomplished players.
  9. Rubbish. Trengove and Moloney have missed two weeks with minor injuries. Junior played last week at Casey and had 20+ possessions. Its dangerous to leave out your inspirational captain, your leading midfielder and possible rising star award winner for good reason. If they are all fit then they should play. Its a fantasy to say you cant drop someone after a good win. Its bollocks.Bail, Maric and Johnson are players who could be in the gun if the above three are fit. Makes sense. But like all players Morton needs to sing for his supper.
  10. Then why do look forward to these reports? They are at best high level and laced with treacle. Have you ever read a poor or negative assessment of a player who has played a dog of a game? Hmmm.
  11. I think that a pretty fair assessment of the rucking disposition. Your last point is very pertinent. Who are we going to attract of merit that would happily play "insurance" for Jamar? While I share your lack of excitement for PJ, the Demons ruck predicament may provide him with a one year window in 2011 to remain on the list.
  12. 1999 was a good vintage Pick 19 - Brad Green Pick 20 - Paul Wheatley Pick 50 - Matthew Whelan Pick 64 - Cameron Bruce All footballers were 10+ year players at the Club. Michael Clark was the only poor pick at pick 42 (traded for Mathew Bishop) We lost our 1st round pick to salary cap penalties.
  13. Excellent post GNF. There is an old saying about glass houses.
  14. Any chance of Voss trying to inspire overconfidence??? We had a good win on Sunday and have won 6.5 games out of 17 and we are looking like a superpower. The carriage has gone well before the horse here. Voss will try anything.
  15. Scully beat Hanneberry. And Morton was not disgraced by Goodes.
  16. We will be battling to make it even if we win all 5 games. (Not getting ahead of myself). Absolutely. There is nothing sides competing in September fear more than an opposition coming off a string of wins and loads of momentum. However, I think we are good for 2 to 3 wins which puts us at 8.5 to 9.5 wins for the year. I expected 8 wins at the start of the year.
  17. We also made "better decisions and therefore use of the ball" against WB and the Pies. But they did put us under some hammer. With the exception of Goodes and McGlynn, the Swans could barely have put less pressure on us. It does not detract from the quality of the win but the opposition effort was feeble.
  18. Most teams do play better when they're not under pressure.
  19. Bartram unless a better option emerges is our first option for the small defender. I am not convinced that Dunn has stitched up a role in our best 22 if all are fit. They may through fate or fortune play in a flag (hopefully at MFC or even elsewhere) but neither are must haves in the assault in 3 to 4 years. Certainly nothing to crow about.
  20. Thanks for the fantasy. Bailey's game plan and message has not changed one iota. His demeanour is the same whether we win or lose. He knows what has to be done and is direct and deliberate in what he says to the player. From all reports I have had heard there is a lot of respect and support for Bailey from the players and the Club. Well said. Yesterday was one of the most open games of football where MFC were under little pressure when we had the ball. Options were easy to find and the ball carrier was given more time to find them. It was a great effort by MFC but the Swans (bar Goodes and McGlynn) were as tough as marshmallows.
  21. Wrong. http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/games/2010/111920100424.html When we flogged the Lions it was less than 1. Its all about making the right decisions by hand or foot each and every time.
  22. Chip caught up with Jetta while Buddy steamed away. Chip in full flight was pretty awesome. Brown wont run him around but it will be more body on body.
  23. Phil Read was an overblown pest wrongly viewed as a "tough" guy who was slow with poor disposal and decision making. Rarely hurt oppositions with or without the ball.Perennial let down. I trust JoelMac has higher ambitions than Read. Edit: Just saw Nasher's thread. I agree but its an overstatement even calling Read a thug.
  24. Its between Green and Jamar. Jamar might have tailed a little in recent weeks but his first 10 games this year were just outstanding. Green has just been getting better. McDonald has missed 4 to 5 weeks and will fill the next rung of places with Beamer, Chip, Bruce and Davey. Interesting to see how Scully and Trengove poll.
  25. If Junior and Beamer are fit for AFL then they come into the side no question. They might rest one of the younger players with Trengove coming in. Barring injuries to other players, Maric and PJ to be dropped for mine.
