  1. I rate players whose impact on the game changes the way the game is played. From the Australian perspective in recent years, players like Hayden - bruising, intimidating batting changed the way Test opening batting was seen relative to ODI. Regularly walked off at lunch with the scoring rate at between 4 to 5 runs an over Ponting - As complete a number 3 as we have had. Able to destroy attacks and be the backbone of big scores. Also able to bulid the patient big knock. Footwork and hand to eye movement as good anyone I have ever seen. Stunning fieldsman in any position. Gilchrist - Rewrote the book on keeper/batsman. Able to win a Test from No 7. Able to destroy an attack from No 7. Rarely seen power game. Warne - Enough said. Completely changed the laws of leg spin. As complete a mater of the complex skill as has ever been. Just re wrote so many so called tenets of the game. 2nd best cricketer ever produced by Australia after the Don. McGrath - the human metronome. Ultimate master of economy in action, delivery and performance. Ruthless and underrated. Normally a Test side is lucky to have one such player at one time. We had arguably 5 players. Australian and World cricket supporters were well and truly blessed. And it will be years down the track before people will recognise the uniqueness of each player and their impact on the game.
  2. So do you think MFC just would have put that in the media release without confirmation? Hmmm It was one week before the start of the pre season and an experienced player decides to go drinking to 6am. Hardly the off season and very poor preparation for the main season.
  3. He only got him sacked as VC. A clear public demotion that resulted in a huge kick up the clacker and the player responded. Self preservation be damned. Moloney was a changed player for the whack. There was also Aaron Davey that was suspended for one week after indulging at a family function in Darwin a couple of years.
  4. No different to the previous coaching administration. Did what had to be done in the situation.
  5. Ha Ha. Thought the same thing. Never a leader's bootlace. Also the expectations of another big year for Col. Well he has 21 games to do it. I recall he got suspended for charging in the second last game of the year. A dumb act. Does he have any carry over penalties for 2012? How many times does he need to learn that? A perennial dumbass. I am not sure he is on his last chance...yet but he aint a leadership contender. Not driving was about the only smart thing he has done. MFC start pre season training on 31 October 2011. And Colin is out a week before it starts getting smashed. Duh!
  6. Some of the hand wringing here is overdone. There is no doubt Holmes has not been clearly open with the Board on the offer to Scully senior. And he and the Club have been badly exposed for it. It was a poor commercial slip up by a CEO and he has paid the price for it. The perils of the GWS have also been the perils of other Clubs over the past couple of years. Now there was one club that sacked their coach and were going to sack their CEO instead.....
  7. I would have Ponting up there as a batsman. Since watching cricket since the early 1970's, if we did not have the Don at No 3 then he would be No 3 in the best Aust team I have ever seen. Hayden Langer Ponting G Chappell S Waugh Border Gilchrist Warne Lilliee Thomson McGrath Apologies to the pre 1970 players I did not see. And the Don would replace Ponting in the side if I did see him.
  8. No. No and No. Blocks the development of other options.
  9. Talk about damning a bloke with faint praise and you're a supporter of his. FMD. It has not involved the best players for about 10 years or so. Nice slur on Green though Indeed. .
  10. Do you think we should have a quota system? Lucky its just indigenous players that are inconsistent otherwise MFC could have a bigger problem. I dont know why you make a specific point about our indigenous players. There is nothing like an ignorant generalisation like "a soft culture pervading our Indig boys." And blow Wheels, lets get Robbie Muir.....now he was tuff.
  11. Doing what???? FWIW, I am glad he is out of the hybrid circus. Alot of hand wringing over very little.
  12. Storm in a teacup. Based on the Hun and the Age nothing on Colin here ladies. Safe to move along now. If they could give a wingnut like Fevola an Ireland jolly then I think Colin has no issues with representing Australia in the upcoming circus.
  13. Honest, hard working but IMO not good enough on what I have seen to win another contract beyond 2012. Will have to lift a level on what he's shown to date.
  14. Fair comment DW. I stand corrected. He did play 2004 but was no part of 2005/6.
  15. Good stat. Pity he did not play in any of those finals. Clearly a much better surfer than a footballer.
  16. Lot to like about this guy. But I would want to see more football smarts shown next year as he matures. Has some great weapons but has to learn how to use them thoughtfully and constructively.
  17. Vandalism when it is done to property without permission. Tagging is the act of disturbed social malevolents.
  18. For the third time, I will ask WHY were they ugly exits? Give me examples of details. I have given you one example where I did not think the exit was ugly just because the player squealed about it. Footballers are often the last to see when the game has passed them by. In the case of Yze, Robbo it had passed them by. No other club wanted to PSD them when they went into the draft. Trav had loads of ability but for 2002 and 2005, his performance were poor for a No 1 pick. Lacked the maturity and drive to get the most out of himself. Spent his final years at MFC playing lazy with no defensive skills and picking up cheap uncontested possessions which never hurt the oppositon. Could not handle a tag. Never worked hard enough. MFC won tatts trading him to the Lions where he withered on the vine. If we could just Grimes fit.. I like all the players you labelled ugly exits. I dont believe in giving them further contracts when they are shot as footballers. Now see if you can answer the question?
  19. Boom tish. I was going to state that MFC play its seconds to maintain the fine tradition it started last year of doing so. But yours is better.
  20. Do you think Neeld might have assessed the list prior to appointment?. Given he played as earlier as 2006, opposition coaches would be well aware of his status. some of the new coaches like Leigh Brown would have played against him as well and would know where he is at. And FWIW, I cant say Royal, Viney, Connolly are likely to give him a ringing endorsement.
  21. On the MFC website, Morton is 6ft 4in (192). He is tall enough to be a KPF. Frawley is 193. Rivers is 192. Cook 196. Yet Morton is playing a running midfielders role. Its a sapping demanding role even for kid with huge tank. His ability to cover great area quickly and often makes him a dangerous player to hold because often to match his pace and height you sacrifice one those attributes with the covering him. I hope he gets his act together because he could be very useful for MFC. And he is only 21yo.
  22. I agree RobbieF. Over the year the moderators have had to regularly deleted unfair bile about Morton.
  23. So what didn't they do well. If you dont know you end it for players then how do you MFC did not do it well?
