I acknowledge that I perhaps should have said that hia approach to the negotiations around his contracts have been dumb. I stand by the fact that over time he has lost the good will of a lot of the supporter base.

Obviously there are no from the horses mouth sources but it has been widely reported and no denials are coming from the Frawley camp. This has been going for so long now that sentiment on this forum has changed over time from Chip being valued and a required player to hope he goes and we get good compensation that this negotiation via media has back fired. Can't remember another example of a free agent where the specifics of demands have been so public. His on field performance hadn't helped either.

To get everyone offside with outrageous demands and to make them public is dumb I'm afraid.

I think it's the unreasonable demands of $700,000 and 7 year contracts plus the disingenuous comments about club direction and successors have got up peoples nose. I don't think he's the brightest light in the chandelier!

Much prefer a Ling type personality than an angry ant like the Scott's, Neeld, Watters etc. Usually these types implode and leave a mess in their wake. Clarkson seems one of the few that get away with it.

Hate the sub thing. Doubt that it's made any difference to injury rate. It stands as a monument to Vlads intransigence.

I would be rapt with Ling. It would mean that he'd be serving at least a 2 year apprenticeship under Roos and probably Roos would stay on in a director of coaching capacity. Ling has all the personal qualities that are needed for success and with the right mentoring would come up to speed quickly. In another 2 years our list and fitness base will be of a high standard and the game palmn well understood. The sooner all this is put in place the better. Getting rid of uncertainty will be important in the trade period.

There is no formula. Clarkson came from nowhere. Experienced Malthouse would have been a disaster. Likewise Sheedy. Favourite sons like Voss, Hird , Buckley don't seem to work out. No name types that have been around for years seem to be the flavour of the month e.g Hinkley - however there aren't many left. Only Leigh Tudor comes to mind. Highly rated assistants such as Neeld, Bailey and Watters can't step up to the plate. Roos made a success of the apprenticeship model with Horse so it seems to work for him. Probably because he has nothing to prove and doesn't need his ego massaged. As long as he gives it enough time to train his acolyte and is in the background afterwards it seems to be the way to go. I trust his instincts to pick the right successor and we should be happy to go with that. If it's Kirk, Ling or Hayes I don't really care. From a distance there is no way of any of us knowing. Having said that I will be surprised if Kirk isn't the man with Ling in an assistants role. I think all will be revealed at the end of the finals. I'm sure everything is in place now.
