  1. haha, I liked that 4 team trade. They also quote the in the know posters who told them last year the papely was a done deal, they were splitting their picks sending one for papley, one for Martin but also got the hawks 1st this year.
  2. Back and hamstring injuries over the last 2 seasons (plus a hand one as well), but given he's only played 18 games in a season once there's a big element of risk, and he signed a contract extension after starting the 2018 season on fire he wouldn't be on a small contract. I can see why the saints want him out and he might be a cheap trade, but the contract might be preventative, unless they pay some.
  3. For some reason the Saints seem to think they are in win now mode, but I'm not convinced their list actually allows for that. Steele had an amazing year, and Marshall, Billings, Clark, Gresham, King and Coffield will all be really good players, but their older players in Hannebery, Ryder, Ross, Carlise and Hill have all past their best and don't have the class to carry them to far. Crouch doesn't add much either - although their end of season trips would be massive with Crouch, Hannebury and Carlise! Them overpaying for Hill, Crouch, Ryder and Hannebery ensures their likely to stay in that 5-10 range, but I don't see that they'll challenge seriously because there list is too unbalanced between those under 25 and those very close to the end.
  4. We only passed on him 3 times, he was the 4th pick for Freo, so they also passed on him 3 times. GWS had 11 picks before Neale, while Brissy and the dogs had 4 picks, The cats, tigers, port, hawks all had 3 picks before Neale went as well. I look forward to the follow up article with all their recruiting managers as well.
  5. C'mon, seriously! Viney was at the SA count, hard to sit with the other Dees when you're in a different state (as you seem to not know he was there for a wedding, and there was a heap of other players beyond the SA clubs as well). From the little I saw Clarry and Max both seemed to be laughing whenever they were shown.
  6. I'd say it's all around how his salary is managed for the cap. He might have agreed to a payout from the club of say $100k which is all that will be counted in the cap but if he were let go from the list then his full salary, maybe say $400k would have been counted, so it'd be a cost saving measure - I have no idea about figures so don't quote me! but I'm guessing they'll keep him on the list then once lists are finalised then he'll retire, and we'd be hopeful they might allow a top up like how we got Bennell/Brown or even a mid season draft.
  7. Who to believe out of Tony Sheehan or Peter Ryan? One is a proven liar, been called an unmitigated [censored] by a club president, had Sam Newman call him a piece of s%*t on national TV and is generally hated by everyone involved with footy, while the other one is Peter Ryan.
  8. Sorry hadn't seen that Morris report, just head what he, Eddie and his management had said earlier in the week.
  9. Why start a thread on this? Everyone knows his wife is moving to Queensland to continue her netball career. If anywhere Treloar will move the Suns, we a 0% chance, along with all other Vic teams, SA or WA teams. So he'll either stay for 12 months then move (if she gets another contract there) or move to the Suns this year.
  10. Really tragic news for them, having been through this twice myself (well my wife) I know this happens so much more than is widely reported, so I respect how brave they were to put themselves in the spotlight and hope they are getting all the support they want and need.
  11. I don't think the AFL are profiting from this at all, Rebel are getting some publicity out of it though.
  12. Straight swap for Phillips could be on the cards, both go into the trade period with reasonable contracts hanging over their heads and it's known that the pies want a more mobile forward and we're after a wing. So both cover a need for the respective clubs, while costings shouldn't be too much of an issue. Both have a few question marks hanging over them, but if they are able to get sorted could end up being a classic win-win trade.
  13. In reality this has been a pretty good marketing move by Rebel, a $100k drop on normal market wouldn't have reached anywhere near as far as what this stunt has. While not everyone will like it, it's gotten air-time on national TV, made all the major newspapers and got people on these sort of forums talking about it. Plus there's without a doubt the commentators will get all nuffy about it on grand final day so they'll get huge exposure at one of the most watched TV event so the year.
  14. I know the clubs are expecting all expecting a 30% cut across all pay for admin based roles - those that survive, one person in a management role (at another club) told me it was like moving back to where they were 10 years ago, with people doing extra work that in the last few years they would have just gone and got a few extra staff in for. The whole industry ballooned out massively - as we've seen with the reports of how many staff are at headquarters. So there's a fair chance that if all admin staff are taking a massive hit and this has gone into the footy departments as well, then the players are going to be forced into a big cut as well. The AFLPA are fully entitled to try and maximise their returns for players, but there going to have to come back to reality a little.
  15. Not going to turn a tribute to Dunn into a slanging match, but Oscar and Frost both were the beneficiaries of Dunn being moved firstly to Casey and then off the list, they then became the pillars of defense in the run to the 2018 prelims. Roos held Dunn out for all but 4 games in the 2016 season, which is why he decided to look for more senior opportunities, so not sure how Goodwin can get any blame for that - but the narrative around here at the moment is to blame him for everything so I'm sure you won't see that reasoning.
  16. Let's not re-write history just to have a crack at Goodwin, he was barely played in Roos's last year with us, because Roos wanted to bring through the younger guys down back. From what I understand there was no animosity whatsoever, he just wanted to go somewhere where he might get some games and the pies had just lost a number of key backs.
  17. I'd love a straight swap with O'Halloran, I think he'd complement our midfield pretty well and they are probably close to the same value on the open market, we'd save a bit of cap space as well.
  18. Don't think Gus has been able to do this over the last 2 years due to injury, but yeah him and his brothers do this every Christmas day, not sure if his foot injury will be healed enough by then, but I think he's one that really needs a full pre-season to perform his best, hopefully he's back running fully really soon.
  19. More than happy to have him on board if he's deemed worthy, I don't think we're going down the Essendon path of getting ex-players into roles to appease the masses. Yze is very highly rated and if the board think Green is the right person then I'm sure he is.
  20. Does everyone who's saying it'd be good to have an ex-footballer on the board understand that Bartlett played for West Coast? While he was no champion player, he at least played at the highest level and had a pretty long career at WAFL level before becoming a lawyer. The board doesn't need to be made up of ex-players, unless they also bring board level skills with them.
  21. The guy played 130 odd games for us, more than for the Hawks. It's the classy thing to so, snipping at a guy who gave us pretty good service while he was here is not a good look.
  22. A year longer than the 2 years the Hawks have in front of him? Surely we're not offering him a contract to play until he's nearly 35, even as a UFA, everyone could see his running capacity already looked down this year. I'm also not sure he's a natural leader either, clearly the likes of Hodge, Mitchell, Roughy and Lewis were but he's not in their league
  23. No it's not. Someone who says their a Melbourne supporter on Big Footy started a rumour that we were going after McKay and sure enough a day later a Carlton fan started a rumour they were after Oliver. McCulre then mentioned what he did on footy classified and this one took off. This sort of stuff happens all the time on there, sometimes they'll suck in a journo, who's trying to stay relevant and it gets oxygen for a while, but there is nothing in this at all.
  24. I think most of those will be gone and be available as DFAs, and should come really cheap, contact wise. Hartigan I don't think fits the mould as he'd be one who there'd be no point getting in unless he's definately plays, and not sure he'd fit with the others. Carlisle from the Saints is apparently on the outer, while he's a bit of a DH, he'd offer some extra aggression along side May.
  25. I don't think we need to trade any of the mids, unless we got an unbelievable offer. It's been said before that it can take around 100 games together for a team to real gel, and if you look at Gus, Viney, Trac, Oliver and Harmes they've all played around that 100 game mark, so my hope is they start to click a lot better about who's turn it is to go and who has to defend/drop back a bit. Sometimes you'll get a Selwood or a Judd who happen to come into a team and be that missing piece but often guys are still figuring out their own game, let alone knowing the best team game might mean they aren't playing the best individual game.
