  1. Surgery on a pretty serious facial injury. Terribe news for Greeny. He got us back into the game in the first quarter when we were all over the place. Hope all goes well for him. We need him back!
  2. i thought he gave us something today and was quite happy with his efforts. i thought he played to his strengths today which is all we can ask for
  3. great pick up. today reminded me of that game. absymal quality but the sides were simply swapped. in the first half they were as bad as we were that night.
  4. the tactic has merit. we just dont have the players to do it. the ball needs to be in the hands of a whelan, wheatley, jnr, garland rather than a warnock and meesen etc (his kick in the 2nd quarter was the dumbest thing ive ever seen) we did try it too early in the second quarter though.
  5. good changes will be interesting to see what they do if he doesn't get suspended.
  6. was just writing a post on the stame thing. incredibly well spoken. if he gets his body right, which it clearly isn't at the moment, he should be our next captain - wanted a full preseason, but wasn't able to do much running over christmas. has match fitness but doesn't have the fitness base behind him. no wonder he doesnt look right - bailey challenged them at 3/4 time. said that the challenge needs to be that bailey shouldn't be challenging them and that it should come from within - went to port with a positive attitude. but couldn't execute early and made some costly mistakes which you cant make when interstate. - said the senior players are maintaining a positive attitude, and ensuring that they aren't satisfied with the "honourable loss" concept. - the club needs to be patient. everyone is subscribing to the DB method. - asked about GC. said that isn't an issue. he is in with us for hte long haul. he can see changes and given he is a loyal man, he wants to stay with the club - doesn't give a rats about draft pick number.
  7. jolly was a second string ruckmen at best. when the heat was on, Ball was who roos turned to. roos was so concerned about jolly that he even traded for everitt. now if he was such a superstar why would he have done that? well lets find out for sure. if he doesn't jack all then get rid of him, but no point wondering. as a i said before we have nothing to lose. personally i dont think he'll be around next year. are you actually saying jolly is the difference between us and a flag? there goes your credibility. and he wasn't in the best 3 in the league WHEN we traded him and when HE WANTED TO GO
  8. huh? they need to know what he is going to offer before they decide. how can you make an informed decision without knowing what he can do? at this point he isn't going to get an offer but lets see what he can do in the seniors. the likelihood of it being rubbish is high, but we haven't got anything to lose. so far this year opposition ruckmen have got 6 browlow votes. we need to know who/what is deadwood. no better way of finding out than challening him. and fwiw bailey has said that he carried an ankle for the second half of last season, so he was never a realistic probability of playing. i dont understand what point you're making re jolly. jolly didn't win them a flag. ball did. jolly was on the pine in the last quarter. sydney were a better team than us, with the best clearance and first dibs midfielders in the league. jolly wouldnt have won us a flag. we had more fundamental problems than ruckmen, hence the position we are in now.
  9. one of the few kids on our list that genuinely excites me. the possibilities are endless. he wont make us a good team alone. but in a good team he could make us a very good team given his offensive prowess. would be interesting to see him at some stage down back. maybe in goddard style role. very similar sizes. i'd like to see him spend 50% of his time in the midfield and the rest in the forward line. gives us a lot of flexibility.
  10. Given it is AAMI and our record there and our team which is young as well as missing 7 or 8 key players, i realistically have no expectations at all. that said i would like to see continued improvement from the rivers/frawley/warnock axis. green/bruce to stand up. davey to have a good 100th. a damaging game from morton, and something from one of the 3 new players. something out of meesen wouldn't go astray.
  11. stupid statement 1) jolly wanted to go. he wanted to be number 1. he was streets behind white at that stage. 2) jamar was raw and young and overtook him in the last part of jolly's last season when white was out (cant remember what year it was). at the time he had more upside. jolly looked soft. that was vindicated in the 2006 GF. 3) sydney wouldn't have given a 1st round draft pick for jamar. that is what really irritates me about "oh we should have kept 'person x' " posts or "imagine what we'd be like with X,Y,Z". if they wanted to leave then what the hell can the club do. apart form making sure that they cash in at the trade table. as for the topic at hand, i'm glad he's getting a run. i want to know what he is made of and if at the end of the year we should be wasting printer ink for a new contract or not. the challenge is yours Meesen. show us what you've got and whether we should renew your contract at seasons end.
  12. you clearly have no appreciation for where this footy club is at. seems you're the one hanging on too tightly if you are looking for wins every week. you need to able to appreciate elements of the performance given the situation we're in at the moment. warnock is one of the few positives. who said anything about marking options?? that has nothing to with it. i just said it is nice to have defenders who contest the aerial ball and even win it. we haven't had that for ages. the best backmen are those that beat their defender one out. our key defensive posts ARE BEGINNING TO SHOW SIGNS of doing this. get a clue seriously watch this weeks game for an idea of what moloney can do. is he the number 1 midfielder in the team? no. if he is the 6th or 7th, we'll doing alright. as for green ... you obviously have no clue so i'm not even going to dignify it with a response.
  13. nice drivel you've got there warnock - watch a tape of the last two games. your reasoning makes no sense martin - you also need to be able to defend one on one against quick ball movement. on more occasions than one on the weekend he took contested marks in the back 50 against his opponent. tell me the last defender we have had at the club who could do that. he has the physical attributes for it. moloney - rubbish. he isn't a star but geelong definitely wanted him. they had many of his type and needed ottens. remember in trading you have to give up something to get something. if moloney is the >13/14th player picked in the MFC we'll be a busy side in september. green - CRAP. do you watch our games?
  14. lets not kid ourselves, in the first quarter we were fine in a no pressure open game. with young and enthusiastic bodies we looked good and got the jump on collingwood. as soon as they got their feet they started pressuring us and that is where the "quick no look, long bomb" kick into the 50 came in. our decision making in the more contested style of footy is highly questionable and is not helped by the fact that we dont have a real forward and our best crumber is getting easy kicks off the HBF.
  15. it is better than the old boys club over there where personal preferences for current/ex players/coaches and decade old debates take over every thread within 5 posts.
  16. or that time sylvia run over the ball from the bounce because he was lazy and cost us a goal straight from the centre. you wanna play mistake for mistake YM fine, you'll be beaten. no one says his disposal is top notch, but if you think he rather than wise ass's like sylvia are our problem then you're completely and utterly deluded.
  17. i'm not disagreeing with you RR, and you're right it is nothing. he has the tools in the shed, just an inability to use them. matty warnock has about 1/3 the skills he does but he performs and puts in.
  18. happy with this... dunn to come in if whelan not fit (which i doubt) our lack of depth is disheartening. you cant expect blokes like dunn/meesen etc to be saviours, because if the the match committee had any faith they'd be playing already.
  19. maybe we will when sylvia learns to put his head over the ball. maybe he could learn a thing or two about work rate from bruce. the kid is the most talented bloke on our list and he continues to put in listless performances like that where he offers nothing offensively or defensively.
  20. Bartram - no influence Bate - just not enough Bennell - nothing particularly inspiring Bruce - impressive work rate (disposal is still mediocre but bruce will continue to run when the rest of our muppets are stationary. far from the biggest problem we have) Cheney - disposal was bad Davey - easy QB role (does it well but scooting around the packs, looks knackered and we need him at millers feet) Frawley - rare defensive positive Green - cant be questioned Jetta - awful second game (i HATE having a crack at kids but he had a shocker. his crap effort in the forward 50 was lazy and cost us a goal when we were on top only for the ball to rebound and goal to be scored. needs to go to casey and get his head/hands over/on the ball) Johnson - poor ruck game Jones - terrible decision maker Martin - another rare positive McDonald - usual endeavour evident McLean - unfit, dumb, treadmill Miller - only forward Moloney - has a dip Morton - good offensively Petterd - ball wasnt there Rivers - classy defender Sylvia - useless Warnock - really good game Spencer - gangly and raw
  21. just on the channel 10 news sports preview ... "the demons lose one of their rising stars for the REST OF THE SEASON". Bloody hell. cant take a trick with our defenders. this is really upsetting news. hopefully all goes well for him in his recovery. would really like grimes back asap now.
  22. great post. i could not have articulated it better.
  23. one thing about having such an inexperienced developing list is that there is little difference between players 18~30. In that the replacement for any of them is likely to have played almost exactly the same amount of games (i.e. none!) Grimes has only played 1 game so if we replace him with a kid on debut we're losing one game of experience! time in the system is a consideration though.
  24. that post would imply that the deal is essentially done and is just getting the t's crossed and i's dotted. is that the case?
