  1. didn't go through! now the hard sell to convince him to come via the PSD
  2. only a few minutes left still nothing this is intense!
  3. i think carlton have done very wel. they have effecitively got two first round picks for fev. one is a KPP that has had the precious years of development already put into him. not a bad deal given they wanted him out.
  4. to us the list is exciting, to the rest of the league not so much. we are still the laughing stock of the AFL. the ONLY thing that could attract ball or another 25 y.o would be $$ because of the room we have in the cap. things are looking up no doubt, and with watts, scully and trengove hopefully having an impact next year players perhaps will be attracted to the club. but until that happens we will continue to be a "selling club" rather than a "buying club" to borrow an EPL term.
  5. http://www.theage.com.au/news/rfnews/pies-...4701108667.html Interesting development. i would have thought we are interested. come on dees! be winners
  6. Hey jeff kennett.... how does it feel to have your face covered with egg?? "we will not trade a premiership player" ... pfft someone should tell him to shut up and stay out of his football clubs FD affairs.
  7. they have 28 as part of the staker/seaby/buchanan deal. that will probably come to play. dunno why geelong thing he will be their number one ruck for the moment: seaby> mumford
  8. that is good news. glad we are pushing hard through the PSD the 500K under the MINIMUM salary cap payments is an interesting one. that means that we at the moment are paying 500K + 7.25 % of the salary cap less than other clubs at full TPP. that'd be close to 700-800K. that is a lot of room to move the problem if we dont get someone else is that then we start paying people like sylvia (i know he signed) more than they are worth...setting a dangerous precedent when watts, grimes etc etc etc come for contract renewal.
  9. very good deal. although leaves them very little currency for ball. unless they depart with a player or two, and collingwood seem loathe to get rid of anyone. the old "have to give good to get good" obviously doesn't apply to them neon leon might be out the door. his issue however is that he doesn't fit into the window of either WA team.
  10. From Matt Burgan's review of the top picks: "Jack Trengove (South Australia/Sturt) Did not attend last week's draft camp due to SANFL finals, but his recent form has several recruiters now thinking he should be taken at No.1, ahead of Scully in the draft. The tough midfielder/forward now appears to be one of Melbourne's top two picks." what a month! considering scully has been a lock for 4 or 5 months ... this is one hell of an effort. i personally am almost equally excited about both. cant split them... great times ahead http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tab...00/default.aspx
  11. let go too easily? they wanted to go. you want players who dont want to play for the club? one went home for family reasons, two left for more opportunity as they were significantly behind the number 1 ruckman, and the other is just generally unhappy. and whats more he was out of contract. if we had have let him go to easily we wouldnt have got pick 11 and instead we would have got nothing. 1)who says they are going to want to? 2)we didnt roll over for FFS. what did you want us to do, play hard ball try and keep a disgruntled player (that would mean he would have to sign a contract again - highly unlikely) or not do anything and see him at another club via the PSD then you go and say he is better than murphy... FFS you post some royal tripe sometimes.
  12. excellent point mate. spot on. i do it anyway, but if they offered entry into any vic home etihad games if applicable or one etihad away game then you would get a significant lift in new MCC/MFC members (the $50 one - which is officially counted as a membership now)
  13. i was using him as an example primarily but nonetheless. i still think petterd has equal upside. and lets not forget that petterd had a significant injury so although being in the system for 3 years, it is much less than that. im pretty happy with where ricky is headed. he will be a big beneficiary of the experimentation this year as he had the opportunity to develop his game in its entirety. and as for chamption data stats - if you only get 6 kicks a game, it isn't hard to have decent efficiency.
  14. Pushed it too far on cycle. In hospital.Feeling better.3 tumours in brain.Fight cont.Treatm.,looks pos+.Specialist 2morrow.Big24hrs!Thx2all when i read this from a tweet a couple hours ago, i got a sickening feeling in my stomach keep fighting jimmy. you are so strong and brave, and an inspiration to all. we are all right there behind you. a true hero and marvel. best wishes jimmy.
  15. fantastic work ethic, repeated second and third efforts, lightening handball, hits the packs at speed, both sided player, and enormous appetite from the contest. i saw that in a 3 minute video. incredibly exciting.
  16. see i dont get why there is this mentality often shown to ricky, yet people go week at the knees for maric, who albeit had school last year but has shown nothing. ricky has plenty of upside. midsized forward or defender, he has strong hands, good kicking and is courageous as all hell. in a robert murphy role in a good team he could be a very good player.
  17. hmmmm, let me think about it ....no there is nothing we want to give "back your way". so pipe and [censored] off. carlton will have a first round pick because they will get adequately compensated due to fev leaving.
  18. definitely has some role in the midfield next year. cannot expect kids to run the show the whole time. puts head over it, has the body size, and the skills, i dunno why you wouldnt want him helpng the kids out in the midfield.
  19. wow there is a lot of love here for a kid that hasnt done or shown much. that quote is a pretty damning assessment from the coaches. he has talent obviously but until he shows it, he is no different from any other youngster on the list. currently not top 22, and is still someway off given his performances and where the coaching staff see him at.
  20. The Bombers have plenty of room to manoeuvre under their salary cap because of the retirements of Matthew Lloyd and Scott Lucas, as well as the imminent departure of the out-of-contract Andrew Lovett, who was in Brisbane yesterday talking to the Lions. ... from the Australian article. my question: why the f*** dont we? we have two senior players on reasonable money and rest are kids. this 92.5% salary cap is rubbish. employ one less plodder exec, and put the money towards the football salary cap. considering cold coast will be getting to pay 110% or soemthing, how on earth are we going to compete in the long term. we are getting an extra 1.1m from the stadium deal next year. i hope that goes to ensuring we are paying more of the salary cap to entice players to come to the club. loyalty or not, if you are being offered double, you will walk.
  21. no we dont. from your list moloney - proper midfielder, scully/trengove - first year, first year, grimes - defender/midfield pinch hitter, valenti- rookie - prob wont be there, davey - proper midfielder, macca - 33 y.o. who will play out of the back pocket, sylvia midfield pinch hitter/HFF, bate - not really a midfielder - at best a winger, jetta - not a midfielder. etc = dunn, bartram, buckley - nobody inspiring morton - will be our midfield gun. bruce/green - will be important. but getting on. still happy with them. strauss, blease, pick11 or pick 18 - yet to debut, so inexperienced, and not match hardened. if that midfield is good enough for you then be prepared for 16th. blease, strauss, scully, trengove have enormous potential for a wonderful midfield, but they need time to develop. you cannot put 3 of those and PJ in the centre circle and expect them win you the ball. nor will it assist their development. rich was so wonderful for the lions because he was the single addition to a sound midfield (and very mature physically). jones is reaching the stage where he can help those boys out. im not trading him for pick 8 when he himself is a pick 12, match hardened, and has had 3 years inthe system learning his craft. i hope you watched the grandfinal and saw the work of hayes, selwood, and bartel. but for moloney and green not one player in that list above could do what those blokes did (at least not next year). jones will be integral to the team now. finals football is tough hard and uncompromising. those are the three words id use to describe jones. given the trade of mclean, he is simply to important to trade for a goal kicking HFF (i know nothing about this guy granted) prospective pick.
  22. hasnt played in 18 months and you want to swap pick 11 for him??
