TRAINING: Wednesday 4th December 2019
For me, the more interesting thing re: kicking is highlighted in the photos above. The good kicks (Salem, May) have their weight forward over the ball. The less reliable kicks (Langdon and Brayshaw) are leaning back on their kicks. Gawn is an example of a guy who has changed his kicking style and is now a good kick. Leaning forward. Trac is a great field kick, but terrible set shot. In the photo above, he's in play and his weight is... going forward. It's a fairly simple mechanical adjustment. Hopefully it's something that gets picked up on and fixed (like it did with Max).

Welcome to Demonland: Trent Rivers
that's a great article. Pity we couldn't swap with Port; 12 and 18 (potentially Pickett and Robertson) would have been very nice. That said, I'm bullish about Rivers. He's a good size with a good kick, and Brisbane have been drafting pretty well; if they rated him at 23 we did well to get him at 32

Boots have very little in the way of cushioning or flex. Runners, on the other hand, generally have heaps. When the surface is dry, runners would deliver much less impact

This time of year
I was the same, and it's happened quite recently; once people were saying Jonesy should give it away, that he was too old (he's about 2 months older than I am). That was it for me.

Welcome to Demonland: Trent Rivers
Surprised he's rated as an elite kick. Only went at 69% for the U/18 champs, but 80%+ by hand which pushed his DE% higher

Missed pre-season with Gladular fever. Was apparently only walking laps in Feb. Bloody good effort to have made under 18 AA off that preparation. https://m.afl.com.au/news/2019-11-06/class-of-2019-trent-rivers

The former. Ridiculous trade, though.

What to do with what is now Pick 32?
They apparently received approval to trade it. I think we all know the AFL "review" wasnt going to take picks off the Suns

What to do with what is now Pick 32?
Suns just traded 11 and 64 for 27! Ridiculous trade

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - LUKE JACKSON
We might get knocked back, but we still have the same players to choose from. This is why I don't understand people getting hung up on academy selections pushing us back. We were never going to have access to those players anyway. We will have exactly the same access to players at 32 as we would at 30 as we would at 28

Some reporting today that Freo had cooled on Robertson and will take young with 7. Can't remember where I read it

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL
Exclusive article in the Hun. Interesting point below about the surgery he had (note to mods, this is not the whole article. "Delisted Docker and would-be Demon Harley Bennell will run for the first time in five months tomorrow. Bennell, 27, will roll the legs over on Tuesday afternoon “just to see if they still work” after being given the all-clear from his doctors. He has undergone multiple bouts of surgery on his troublesome calves since breaking down again playing WAFL on June 23. The injury-plagued speedster starts training with Melbourne next Tuesday, confident specialists have cracked the code to reignite his stalled 83-game career. told the Herald Sun. Tendons pushing onto nerves in both of Bennell’s calves have been removed as part of his radical rehabilitation plan. “At first I was a bit iffy about it, but I’d heard other players like Sam Reid at Sydney had done it, so fingers crossed it will all work out,” Bennell said." https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/more-news/harley-bennell-to-run-for-first-time-in-five-months-on-tuesday-as-he-bids-to-earn-afl-chance-at-melbourne/news-story/6178a29260df3e3b49a0ed433f2d464c

Phantom Drafts
I think it will be other recruiters talking. As has been said a few times, recruiters generally won't talk about their plans but are happy to talk about other clubs plans. How close to the truth they are, who knows?

Tom Green (Drafted by GWS Giants)
No worries. It's the former father/son system where you could match with your next pick, whatever that was. Think that's how we got Viney for pick 26
-
Tom Green (Drafted by GWS Giants)
They need to match the points. If we bid 3, they can swap to 12&18 but if the points are more than 12, then 18 drops back. Their other option is to trade for a later pick and a pick next year. That future pick is quarantined from matching the bid

What to do with Pick 10?
I wonder how many spots GC have. Will they use 20? If not, they won't use 28 either. Maybe we can keep that too (although maybe we won't have space to use 28 if we have 3, 15 and 20)

There have been a few Insta stories with May and Bennell hanging out. Pretty sure they are pretty good mates

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - KYSAIAH KROPINYERI PICKETT
Post academy bids, it'll probably end up being pick 12. The fact it won't be a top 10 pick makes me feel better about it.
