we're having a crack but you have to take your chances.
-
I suspect their bigger bodies will overcome us but if we keep niggling and pushing the ball forward where a chance if we get the first.
-
It kills me how much Danger and Sloane are able to throw the ball out of the contest when caught.
-
H really had no choice as he couldn't handball and his back was to the boundary. The third quarter will show how much we have learnt. Need to get Vanders and Tyson back into the contest and improve our ball movement between the arcs.
-
Dawes has limited skill but busts a gut. I will take his effort over some of the [censored] poor attempts by Watts today.
-
It only kills it if we let it. If they were to get two goals best its the last with a break to regroup than early in the game.
-
Just need to keep doing what we have been and remove the errors through the middle. Should be further ahead but most are working hard at and away from the contest. Come on Dee's keep it up.
-
Jack Watts - what a disgrace.
-
We need to negate them at the stoppages and when we have the ball take them on through the press. If we play safe and don't take them on we will get smashed.
-
Round 1 he looked stuffed after half time. He was great last week coming on as the sub. This is the right way to manage the kid throughout the season.

The challenge with a lot of ruckman is they struggle unless they are the main man that can grind 80%+ of the game out. I suspect Leunberger will be looking for a club that allows him to likely be the main ruckman now and for years to come. My query aside from his previous injury history would be does he fit what Roos and co see as a ruckman in todays game. He is tall and mobile but not big bodied like Jolly, Mumford, Pike. Is he combative enough? Well worth a look if he fits with where we think the game is heading. What we really need is Gawn to realise his size and talent and start putting serious pressure on Jamar.
-
Frost can swap in when Jenkins does. Jacobs takes the majority of ruck work.
-
JKH and Michie in Garland and Vandenberg out Frost to go back. Brayshaw to start. Kent as sub. I want to see Toumpas have a solid 3 weeks at VFL level before considered rather than him drift in and out of the side.
-
If people think Howe is lazy as a backman they have forgotten how lazy he was as a forward. There is a lot of people with itchy trigger fingers here. He looked excellent last week with the right application.
-
Kent's primary role was to quell Malceski. I thought he was better defensively. JKH had moments when in play but unsure how good he was without the ball.
-
I agree with this. You can afford to be tall particularly with 3 or even 4 if you put 2 genuine smalls nipping at their heels. Previous we have played tall and not had natural small forwards in the other positions. This is even more the case with the defensive work rate of the talls and the mobility of Watts and Vanders. If I was a selector it would be Toumpas and Brayshaw for Vince and Dawes. Kent's role on Malceski was excellent and JKH I expect to sub.

Training - Tuesday 7 April, 2015

I tend to agree with this. He is certainly not confident yet as you would expect. Even his comment in his presser (paraphrased) that he thought he lowered his colours to his opponent on the weekend. He currently will be an asset in his role but wait until the penny drops and he is confident out there. -
Which player positively suprised you against GC
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Henrietta Lumbago's topic in Melbourne Demons
Sure ball handling and movement from Garland, TMac and Howe. -
Dawes must come in. Frost was serviceable and is relief ruck and they won't drop him against his old side. If we are to bring Vince in I think it will be Toumpas and brayshaw. The kid looked good early but was out of petrol tickets pretty quick.

Watts may have finally found his mojo and position, Anyone that didn't rate his game today is a dick. Was the most influential player on the ground.

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - ROUND 1, 2015
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
This is based on watching live in Tokyo half gassed. 6. Watts 5. Tyson 4. Garland 3. Jones 2. Garlett 1. TMac -
I think it was Roos who said last year the most important thing for round 1 is playing fit players. You cannot play two first gamers in Gus and Vanders and take in two completely underdone players in Howe and Vince and have a focus on winning round 1. It may make more sense for the longer game but against a running side round 1 we will get caned.

When does the coach start taking the blame?
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to joeboy's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think is he is all about culture and system but I think the actual game strategy and skill lacks or at least may not get the right focus. I am hoping with Goodwin and McCartney that rounds it out. I seriously struggled to understand what we were trying to do when we had the ball against Essendon. -
I think everyone accepts that we made the wrong choice. I would say the error for what we needed wasn't Wines but missing McRae who was the same type of player we needed and playing school footy with Viney. It doesn't mean Toumpas wont become a good player but time/contract is running out. As Jones mentioned in a recent interview and as shown over the last two game his best is good but the gap between his poor games is woeful.

THE ROAD TO ROUND 1, 2015
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to iv'a worn smith's topic in Melbourne Demons
The positive of round 1 is it is at the G where a skill error does not hurt you as much as Etihad or the postage stamp we played on last week. The negative of round 1 is its at the G where a running side like Gold Coast can get plenty of space and run us off our feet. This is what I would do not what I expect. Even if Vince and Howe play 2 games at Casey I don't think you can play both. I know the kids aren't the saviours but interested to see how Angus and Billy go the next two weeks as there's spots there for the taking. Jetta T-Mac Dunn Salem Frost Grimes Newton N Jones Vince Watts Hogan Kent Garlett [Pedersen] JKH Jamar Tyson Lamumba Vandenberg Cross Viney M Jones
