Mentioned in another thread but an inside mid who has 36 touches at 91% DE is almost unheard of.

Omac wont be going anywhere. Carlton aren't tall forward so best performed at Casey should come in.

Demonland Player of the Year - Round 1
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6. Oliver 5. Petracca 4. Gawn 3 Hogan 2. Jones 1. Tmac -
Whilst Tyson and Kent are clearly best 22 when on their A game I reckon they are the most sensitive to being useless when not at their best. Tyson's JLT appearance was a good case in point. Go with those with the best conditioning and touch I say.

TEAM SELECTION AND MATCH PREVIEW - ROUND 1

Doesn't have the tank. I think Vince will get him if on a wing and we will accept he will get marked over on occasion. -

TEAM SELECTION AND MATCH PREVIEW - ROUND 1

Harmes JLT was putrid. Surprised ANB ahead of Bugg but hoping ANB is given a good chance early in season to see if can convert his VFL form up a level and cement a spot if he's good enough. Tyson and Kent clearly best 22 but both are the type that need more run and touch to be at their best. I know Weid's JLT did not set the world on fire but think it is right to persevere with him ahead of two rucks with one as a make shift forward. The thing he does well already is create space for Hogan, you very rarely see them go the same ball which the same cant be said once Gawn/Spencer rest there. -
Why. The three would be going in with grand total of 65 minutes of a JLT under their belt on a round 1 fast deck. Again this is not what I would do, this is my read of what I think Goodwin will do. I would play Watts, Smith, Garlett and Kent. Tyson needs more minutes and touch at Casey for the role he plays. Jetta shouldn't play after having no JLT time. I would exclude both Spencer and Weideman.
-
After just watching Goodwin's presser this is my take on selection reading between the lines (to be clear none of this was actually said). Watts will play Garlett will play Joel Smith will play Spencer will play at the expense of Weid Tyson and Kent wont be risked yet Jetta wont play (decision rather than risk)

Whilst I would prefer not to have injuries, with Omac and Tmac the preferred tall backs I would have played Smith ahead of Garland and Frost anyway. I suspect only Hibberd will be missing from Goodwins preferred back six leaving us with missing depth rather than certain starters.

Thanks. Based on what you've seen who comes in next week? -
CASEY DEMONS 2017 PRE SEASON

Your view or inside info? -
I still suspect that if he gets through this week at Casey Smith will surprise many and come straight in as the third tall for round 1. I saw enough of him in JLT 1 and 2 to back him over Garlands JLT 3.

Melbourne supporters are better than most at talking up other teams. Riewoldt plays on a wing these days. Membrey and Bruce are hot and cold. McCartin has not played a quality game of AFL that I have seen yet but will be good. Jack Stevens is probably the most under rated player on a list but him aside they are an ok list held together by some elite players who are passed their best. We pressure well and execute well forward of centre and we win and win well.

No disrespect to others but Clarry's impact with ball in hand already makes him our best midfielder. Its now all about game and quarter consistency and when a tag shifts to him (which it will very quickly) how he goes. The addition of his outside work we are starting to see shows how quickly he is developing. Lock to be in the pivot round 1 first bounce against saints I reckon.

Best 22 for Round 1, 2017
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to spirit of norm smith's topic in Melbourne Demons
Adjusted again based on yesterdays JLT and assumption that Kent, Garlett, Tyson, Smith, Jetta, Hibberd play Casey next week. B: Melksham O-Mac J Smith HB: Hunt T-Mac Hibberd C: Lewis Oliver Jones HF: Petracca Hogan Vince F: Garlett Watts Spencer Ru: Gawn Salem Viney Int: Tyson Brayshaw Stretch Bugg Emerg from: Kent Jetta Weideman -
The thing that was clear last night is you cant play him and Weideman. One is getting to the right place at the right time and last night made it count and is an able ruckman. The other is not getting to the right place as much, when he does is not making it count and cannot play ruck. Weid will be fine but needs development at Casey. I want to see him dominating games, particularly whilst we have potentially another option. Hogan, Watts and Spencer/Gawn as the talls with periods where we just have Hogan/Watts on ground surrounded by mid sized forwards is where we should head for round 1.

JLT Round 4, Thursday 9th March - West Coast at Subiaco
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to McQueen's topic in Melbourne Demons
We were not that far off, some serious over reaction from some on here. Poor execution into and out of 50 cost us. Oliver fantastic and pretty even over the whole game. Pencil the only one on the fence who consolidated a round 1 spot. How Trengove can't get a crack when Harmes can is beyond me. Our whole backline, Hunt aside, was a disappointment. -

Difference in the game is execution not effort. These calls for Melbourne of old and going to our heads is ridiculous. They are a good mature side on their home turf. We have executed poorly which has created multiple two goal turn arounds. Tyson showing how much he needed the run with some appalling execution and decisions. Desperate need for one less tall forward, an actual crumber and a backman like Frost, Hibberd or Smith that can quickly close a gap out the back. -

One team can hit a target inside 50 the other cant. Vince is a backline liability. our defensive pressure inside forward 50 is poor.We are basically in this due to Oliver and not much else. -

Agreed. I would never have thought it a month ago but its pretty clear that we need a second big forward and Weid isn't ready. I would prefer to go with the big pencil even if he is guaranteed to miss some shockers. -

Spencer should play ahead of Weid round 1.
