Demonland Player of the Year - Round 8

That's the break out game. No turning back now. That's how you play for 120 minutes (ok maybe for 110). Petracca is a very special player.
-
Yep. Have just reached for the scotch to try and get me through. Lets see what we've learnt and whether our leaders stand up and whether we can show some composure on what I suspect will be significant pressure. Come on Dee's.

Great to see us arrest momentum inside a quarter. This game is there for the taking if we come out fired up and take our chances in the third. Hibberd and Lewis are such great additions to our side. Tyson is seriously out of form (or maybe not as good as we hoped) and Kent and Hannan need to show some desperation. I would be happy if one of them just tagged Laird all second half and ignored the ball. I would be playing CP in the middle at every opportunity and rest him forward, he makes a massive difference when in there. I cant wait until he has 2 more preseasons and can do it for most of the game.

Start well. Win the clearances. Negate the half back run of Laird and Smith. It's hard for their elite forward 6 to kick a score if it's never down there. Move the ball forward quickly and hit up short forward 50 targets rather than bomb. Play CP and Hannan deep and hope one has a 4-5 goal game.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 8

Received 3 coaches votes which validates impact on result. Got alot of hitouts but we won the clearances, moreso he as dangerous pushing forward and back unlike Pedo. Rose coloured glasses don't help you on the occasion you have a good point to make. -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 8

Watch his last game before dropped, read the feedback from Plapp and you will understand why he is back there working on his game. He actually wasn't running and carrying he was slowing our play hence that is why he is working on it in the seconds. I would have him in before Bugg but the reason is pretty clear. -

POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 7

There is still a lack of trust in your team mate in this group. Too many offensively and defensively jump for the same ball. Too many run to the same ball and then we are forced to do 2 metre handballs to stationary players to try and escape. This year is so frustrating because our best is sublime but we don't play with that trust and dare an attack consistently that good teams do. That's a lack of maturity and a lack of leadership. JKH, Bugg not up to it. Hannan not up to it at least yet. Change them up. Reset and go again. -
Its so easy to forget that Hunt, CP and Oliver (our three most likely elite in my view) have played just over a combined 50 games. The sky is the limit for all three of them.

This should be pinned to the top of every weeks game day thread. GOLD.

TEAM SELECTION AND MATCH PREVIEW - ROUND SEVEN
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Who would you have brought in earlier than now to play off half back like Melksham has? Wagner (only just available), Hibberd (only back 2 weeks), Lewis (not available for 3 of the 5). We haven't exactly had choices even half proven to play that role. Last week was not bad and I think he only had 1 bad, a couple good and 2 middle of the road. However with now getting some depth back players cant afford to be middle of the road let alone poor. -

They are usually the same that think funnily enough that those shown in the 18 must start in that position on game day. -
TEAM SELECTION AND MATCH PREVIEW - ROUND SEVEN

If Wagner plays I dont see issue without O-Mac of Tommy swinging into the ruck and Frost taking Roughy and one of Wagner/Hibberd minding OBrien. They aren't exactly the land of giants in the forward 6. -
From this weeks VFL review. Its not how many touches you get it is clear it is about showing the right behaviours, Dean Kent: Dean had 22 disposals, five marks and kicked a goal. His performance over the weekend was the type of football we know he can play. He was able to really impact some contests and put on a lot of forward 50 pressure. Kenty also laid some significant tackles in attack. His ability to put the opposition under pressure was really positive
-
Its pretty clear the more times you get the ball and kick the ball the more opportunities there are to get it wrong. I would prefer to see of the players in the top 50 for kicks for the season who has the highest clanger %. May still be similar but a truer indicator.

POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 6
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Lucifers Hero's topic in Melbourne Demons
This game was won when we moved Vince into the middle and Salem to half back at half time. Vince completely changes our on ball mix and his creativity comes to the four (without the costly turnover goals) and his smart body blocking clears the way for Jones et al at stoppages. With Hibberd settled I hope that is the last we see of him in the back 6. Sloppy first half but effort was good. Trac, Hannan, Watts kept really good separation on each other after half time which stopped Hurley being able to get off his man and cut us off. Good to get through with the win but also without any obvious injuries and with Viney and Tyson looking like they are on their back to form in the second half. -
6. Jones 5. Trac 4. Lewis 3. Oliver 2. Watts 1. Pederson NB: special mention to Tyson and Viney who were both much improved on last week particularly after half time.
-
Frost needs to play on Daniher and work him under the ball. I have a feeling we will see T-Mac in a different role either in ruck or forward or both. If we set up well at the stoppages and hit in hard like we did last week's first half, not having a ruck wont matter. Hoping the return of Lewis and Hibberd "allows" Vince to play mid-forward rather than back. If Trac plays hoping he plays deep coming out of the square next to Watts.
-
Would be one of the first picked any week by any coach. Is a model of consistency and getting the most of out of yourself by playing to your strengths. In probably the best era of small forwards seems to have all of them covered. Roos mentioned last week on Fox Footy he is one of, if the best he has seen at knowing when to come off your man and help your team mates. Not many could you say deserve their 100 more than Nev.

Geelong Cats v Casey Demons

Possession's may point to but don't necessarily equate to a good game particularly when transitioning up to AFL level football. -

Well giving his body a rest on a short week then. Didn't think he has been his energetic self the last 2 weeks. -

JKH in his first game back in over a year made costly errors BUT by trying to move the ball on quickly and bringing the ball into the corridor aggressively. Stretch who has had strong development and continuity over the last year did not make clear errors but slowed up play and took safe options. I think this is about the broader what we are trying to build and where they are both at in their development. Stretch going back to tinker on his game is not a bad thing.
