I watched Essendon play the other night. Lets talk about the state he left them in. I know which list I would rather have.

Casey Scorpions v Collingwood
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Good to see little Nev named on the bench. Still no Blease though?? -
Very hard to disagree with logic.
-
If I was selecting bench would be Jordie McKenzie, Tom Scully, Jamie Bennell, Michael Newton however I expect that Newton will miss and Joel Mc will play.
-
I think that is the decision that needs to be made. Although Joel Mc has been serviceable I think that I would probably choose Rivers.
-
Sorry Dan understand its your opinion and you have every right to it. I just disagree that Rivers is a sensational footballer and struggle to see how people think that. He is a great reader of the play. He is an excellent third man up. However he is very limited in his flexibility of who he can play on. He is very poor on a lead up player and not great on a stronger bodied opponent. He has sub par disposal and does not have the attacking flair to counter these deficiencies. I think he is best suited to a style of football that is no longer played. I agree with you that Sylvia is the important one and cant wait to see him back in the red and blue.
-
And I read ir right in the middle of my lunch Riewoldt will towel Rivers on the lead.
-
Richmonds starting forwardline last week was as follows: HF: Ben Cousins, Jack Riewoldt, Mitch Morton F: Ben Nason, Jayden Post, Richard Tambling Can you advise who Rivers would play on?
-
Why in out right mind would Rivers come in for Garland? Someone please explain to me who Rivers match up is this week? Rivers for mine is not an automatic selection in the side. He is a great reader of the play and third man up but he offers no flexibility in match ups unlike Garland, Frawley and Joel Mc and cannot play on the gorilla's like Warnock. I dont understand why people think he is. And if anyone quotes he won the rising star I will bring up my breakfast.

Gutsy Win - Changes vs Tigers

Rhino are you sure you are not my brain posting before my hands can type. Your comments are exactly what I was thinking. Sylvia for Dunn would be my only change as well. -
Excellent post Jaded. Sums it up perfectly.
-
Newton for now. He is presenting well, applying good pressure and crashing packs. Unless Martin is bangin the door down he is worthy of a spot. There is nothing wrong with Martin learning how to play forward at Casey. I will be curious when we play Brisbane as to whether we then allow Jamar to ruck on his own with some small releif or we then bring in PJ or Spencer.

My 3 word player analysis V The Madelaide
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to joeboy's topic in Melbourne Demons
Watch the replay and note who is on Burton when he scores. You may be suprised. There would have been no match up for Rivers today. He is very limited in the type of player he can play on. -

Good call on Bartram he was very good today and played his part. Scully will be better when we actually play him on ball where he belongs. In saying this though he is getting valuable experience until his body is ready to handle the rigours of playing on ball. -

Bruce played on Burton for about 5 minutes. Joel McDonald had him early on. The quicker Dunn is out of the side the better. Did some nice things but will make 2 errors for every good thing he shows. -
We need a key position forward. ASAP
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to wolfy's topic in Melbourne Demons
I would have to agree with Clint. Unlike Hawthorn the Adelaide players actually held their positions and we pushed up. We were not following our men in most cases. Watch how many times in the first we trun to go inside 50m and have no one or kick to 3 Crows. It is not hard to tell 2 players to hold their ground and stay deep. It will create more chances than it will give away. Second half was a marked improvement but I am unsure what caused that rubbish again in the forst 2 qtrs. As for throwing Watts in at the deepend. Thank god you are not making the decisions. -
Must agree with those that said our skills need to improve but come on guys one step at a time. The most important thing to get right first is the attitude. Our intensity today was again superb, the tackling, harrassing and the work in the stoppages was outstanding. The second thing to get right is our structures. Our forwardline set up again first half was atrocious and need to some serious work. Our defensive structures however and stoppage setuos were excellent. The third thing to get right is the execution and this is where we are still a long way off. It is worth noting though that majority of the errors come from those players that as the kids develop will be slowly pushed out of the side. As ugly as it was do not underestimate the importance of that win. We had all the play in the last and they had no bench. Losing that game would have been catastrophic to the confidence of our young players.

Trengove - Dees first rising star nominee?
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demon3's topic in Melbourne Demons
He will get one when deserved but as yet there are players having more standout games than him. Bastinacs game will be hard to go past this week. I dont think it will take Jack to much longer though he is getting better each week. -
6 Frawley 5 Grimes 4 Green 3 Jamar 2 Bennell 1 Bail

Thanks Billy. Is it Colin 4 Colin?
-
Can I ask why? I just dont see what some see in him. A good battler who will give his all for mine who has limited mobility, flexibility and decision making.

The day Nathan Jones is ommitted alot of people on here will cry foul and wonder how its happened and that he is definitely in our starting 18. I will not be one of those people.
-
It amazes me the amount of people that do not understand the following: 1. If you are named in the starting 18 you are not an emergency. The emergencies will come from those players named on the extended bench. 2. If in the starting 18 Scully is named in the ruck it does not mean he will play there. The starting positions have absolutely no relevance on the game itself. 3. If a player on the extended bench is named in the Casey starting 18 it has absolutely no relevance,. Maybe this can be a sticky to every week when the teams are named.

Thanks have seen this now. Reserves team was not published when I wrote that.
