DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Round 16
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6. McKenzie 5. T-Mac 4. Sylvia (disposal errors cost him 6) 3. Martin 2. Bail 1. Jones -
Will his inside game work at that size against men? Will he be able to stick those tackles? I think at that size he is a gamble however he could be Jetta with an inside game?
-
No to 4 years. Should be 2 possibly 3.
-
Mids. mids and more mids please. No to Hogan due to need and also was unimpressed by him. I can see Martins talent but cant work out where he fits. Pick 3/4 is too high for mine compared to other players on offer. NB: How quickly people forget how good Jurrah is.

I love it when people list 7 unforced changes and realistic think it could happen

In: Jamar, Green, Gysbert, Couch, Davey Out: Spencer, Bate, Magner, Bail, Bennell

Which is worse: our skills or decision making?
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to pitmaster's topic in Melbourne Demons
Or number three our fitness. The player with the ball tires too quickly which means they cant execute or make the correct decision when tired. The player without the ball does not run to space or effectively block meaning that the options we do have are limited and usually covered. West Coast players couldn't hit the side of a barn two years ago now look at the them move the ball.Fix the fitness and get the gameplan more embedded and then we can see how bad the skills actually are. -
I think you will find that if they show the right intent and particularly defensive indicators at Casey then you will see them. If they dont then they should stay where they are. We have heard players talk before about being given games before their form at VFL warrants it. Let them get the form right and intent right and then by all means play them.

What would you define as a half decent performance today?
-
Yesterdays presser for me pretty much showed that, barring an obscenely too good to refuse trade scenario, Colin Sylvia will be at MFC next year but Moloney is dead man walking (obviously not running). If you cant get away from the contest both ways there is no place for you.
-
Who should he develop? Gysberts and Strauss who are about to play their third consecutive game for the first time this season? Taggert, Evans, Jetta? The only one that has had any continuity on the park is Davis and we have no spot to give. Cook needs to look comfortable at this level before given a shake but I dont think his time is too far away. Couch is not development he is filler but I think he will give more than Moloney at present. NB: I am assuming you're last question is rhetorical.

How would you rate the Crows top 6 players against ours? How many of their best side missed tonights game? How many major injuries have they had this year? Taking out like for like lets remove Tippett (Clark), Walker (Jurrah), Jacobs (Jamar), Johncock (Bartram), Talia (T-Mac), Petrenko (Davey). I wonder how the game would have looked then. NB: I would put Gysberts and Strauss probably in our best 21 but can't judge them as they haven't got on the park all year.

You say there is not much difference with the lists you are kidding yourself. Tell me Melbournes top 6 players and rank them against any other side. Your top 6 is where the game is won and lost and through a combination of poor choices and development we have the worst in the league. The top 6 wont change much dependant on gamestyle but I agree it affects the remainder of your side and what you can do with them. The coaches job is to get this list the best shot for a premiership. The progression of this list and the previous strategy was not going to deliver it. The coach is looking at instilling a game plan he believes in which is more important than progressing one he doesn't. He is testing the list against this and giving players he has doubts over every opportunity to show value in new roles. I will judge him on once he turns the list next year and the game plan he instills in season 2 and there going forward.
-
I think you judged it well except for your third point. Cotchin had 28 touches today, Jordie quelled him at the stoppage but was murdered on the spread, he is currently half a tagger. He is no star but could be important to our side. 3 year contracts should be only about necessity (clubs are banging down the door to sign him) or to believe they will have a break out year and this will save you cash in the medium term. I see neither here.

Which of Tapscott's 9 possessions and 0 tackles did you enjoy? Today was possibly the worst skilled game of football I have been to. Time to get rid of the goer's. Who cares if they learn the structures if they will not be there next year to use them. I agree Trengove is heavy in the legs.

Demonland Player of the Year - Round 15

6. Jones 5. Howe 4. Sylvia 3. Nicholson 2. Frawley 1. Martin -
3 years for both McKenzie and Garland is excessive.

I dont mind who is midfield coach as long as it is not Royal. He says or shows nothing that makes me think he is any good.

Casey Scorpions v Port Melbourne
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Our midfield is missing both speed but just as importantly class and Gysberts has this in spades. If he builds an engine (which he lacks) and puts some more meat on his frame his lack of pace will not be an issue. -
The beauty of having three picks in the first 12 -13 is alot of clubs will not be able to risk a pick on a Stringer (returning from injury), Menzel (injury prone), Plowman (missed U18 champs) or Garlett (questionable attitude) when they only have one dart to throw. Assuming Viney goes second round and we retain all three picks give me Toumpas (clearly the best on what I saw), one of Mayes, Martin (MD), Wines, O'Rourke and then one of the questionables with our third.

Demonland Player of the Year - Round 14

Thats pretty much on the money. -
Disappointing but a good opportunity to see if anyone steps up. I wonder if they would both miss if we were a game outside of the eight?

Lets not ignore Jetta's first game back and Gysberts, Williams, Strauss second games back after long lay offs. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to einstein251's topic in Melbourne Demons
Completely agree with your assessment. I would only add Matt Crouch who was a class above all except Wines in the first game. Hopefully GWS get hot for Grundy and take him as based on today Toumpas (3), Wines (4), Garlett (other comp pick) and Viney with 2nd rounder would be a very exciting outcome. -
2012 Draft ... #3 Jack Viney, then pick 4 ??
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to jurrahcane's topic in Melbourne Demons
After watching the first game and the first half of the second game I desperately want Toumpas. Matt Crouch and Wines very good in the first game and Garlett has shown good work in the first half against SA. Whitfield showed nothing for mine that screams number 1 pick. Keen to see how he goes in the more controlled conditions of Etihad on Wednesday.
