Bit harsh. That would be ignoring the pin point passing (3), contested marks (2) and goals (2). The Larke medal was voted on by experts watching the games not a 2 minute highlights package. I am not completely sold on Morton and I think there is fair cause to say his confidence needs to be rebuilt. 2012 with a new coach, game style and expectations on him offers just as much chance that he will have a breakout year and fulfill the potential that was seen back then or just as much chance of him being at Casey all year and disappearing into the wilderness. How every second thread ends up about Morton on here is beyond me but regardless the Morton bashing on here needs to stop and we should just wait and see what the season holds.3 points

No surprise here. You just had to read between the lines of his interviews during draft time to see he may not have had as much control as previously.Timing on this is probably good for both him and club. I think most of us could have achieved what he did with his top 5 picks but I think over coming years his expertise will get acknlowledged with the development of less conventional picks as Gysberts, Howe and Gawn. All the best Barry.2 points

I think we should start referring to Jack Trengove as "Trengove's brother".2 points

That is your opinion. We need a captain that can walk the walk and lead the team by his actions on the field. Come to think about it how would you describe David Neitz Mr Lutz? I have no doubt that Brent Moloney would lead the team in the same way as David Neitz did. The good thing is that David could help Brent with how to be a very effective captain. To be blunt it would be madness to appoint Jack Trengove as captain as he is still growing as an AFL player. I have a feeling that Brent Moloney would fit into the type of captain that Neeld would want. Plus I have a gut feeling being captain would not effect the way he plays as it had with Brad Green. What worries me with Green is that result in Geelong. I have no doubt that a Melbourne team with Brent Moloney as captain would not put in such a limp wristed performance. Or should I say protest performance.1 point

Green is a 'shoe-in' and Trengove a 'monty'... Do we have an odds-on favourite or dead-set frontrunner? Well, we have plenty of frontrunners actually...1 point

Why ? I keep reading your disparaging comments regarding Trengove's manhood and in a subsequent post to the one I'm responding to you refer to Trengove as a "Kid". Not only do I disagree, I find it very tedious. Trengove has shown through his courage and quality play that he's far from a Kid. Do you realise how tough it is to play AFL footy ? Do you not see how hard it is for some young players to adapt ? Do you not see the way Trengove puts his head over the ball and the courage it takes to grab some of the marks that he does ? Do you not see other more senior players gravitate to him at training ? Do you not see the vocal encouragement he offers others ? Did you not see the way he handled himself in interview after interview regarding Scully last year ? Did you not see that he was almost the face of the club during dark times ? The maturity he showed as a 19 year old was extraordinary. You're pretty easy to read, so I expect that you'll trot out his birthdate as the reasons for your remarks, but I couldn't disagree more. You're an anachronism if you think he's suddenly a man on his 21st birthday. I hope someone that posts here doesn't mind me sharing this, but Trengove was advised last year not to sign an extension with Melbourne. He was advised to wait because the was club in turmoil and a new coach had to be found. Trengove said no and was adamant that he had to sign the week he did because the club needed his support and it needed the positive publicity that would follow. He signed less than two weeks after the 186 point debacle at Geelong and in the aftermath of Bailey being sacked. I don't call that the actions of a "Kid" and as I've already stated (it needs repeating) I couldn't disagree with you more.1 point

A lot better, Steve? Back it up why don't you. A lot would be what - 20% better - 40% better? Lets go for 40%. So, go and do the homework. How may picks did he have in what drafts? Go and find 40% worth of improvements and then name the better recruiters. Let's face it, if Barry could have a done "A lot better" it is important that we all know how the club has been dudded. Such certainty steve must come with a wealth of data to back it up and I for one demand to know how Barry has so markedly failed. Given how certain you are, this will be a doddle for you. Why, I'm sure you already have all the data just waiting to go. Go. For the record, I thing he has done a good job overall. I wish we had a better midfield than we do. I think we have a lot of potential in forwards and backmen and our ruck stocks are good.1 point

You made a poor evaluation of the video tape that was posted. I doubt many supporters disagree with your view on his present output in the AFL. Some may disagree with you on his talent levels, but not many would disagree on output to date or the concerns over his contested ball winning ability.1 point

I would bet that Mark Neeld will ring his old mate Mick Malthouse today or this week to discuss who is out there in recruiting we must target. Wells from the Cattery would be nice!! Any one else at the filth we can secure from over the fence? Malthouse being in the football media and not coaching could be a huge help to Neeld this year as he learns all the nuances of coaching. Paul Roos was interviewed on 774 this morning. Wow coaching at AFL level is a huge job. And i think we got a beauty.1 point

I like it how you've implied that he's gone in our quest for "the best", then followed it up with "who knows" in the very same post. 5 stars.1 point

I have this mental picture of all recruiting staff at all clubs busily downloading all their files to their home computers....lol1 point

Or because he wants to advance his career? There's always a million reasons these things could be, I never understand why people always look for the biggest conspiracy theories first when there's usually more simple answers.1 point

I read all of this every day, and don't need to respond, but Clint, if you have even spent five minutes watching that game against the Swans, you would have seen that Cale Morton ran with that guy all day, spent two hours learning how his opponent plays the game, kicked a beautiful goal, and gave up three votes because he was a kid playing against a dual brownlow medalist, who in the end needed to shove the ball in his opponents face to make the point that he's oh yeah Adam Goodes. Hey I've had too much to drink, but I think Cale Morton did a great job on that upstart that day, so Clint B, shove it1 point

I'll give you the news. Trengove's sister would have beaten Scully too!1 point

Additionally would also like to make sure he is actually not, you know, the biggest trade disaster in history before we go and make him the captain. I think Carlton could be fairly sure that the J**d exchange was going to work and although Clark might be a huge hit he's not a 100% guaranteed success. Besides, suggestion was by Greg Denham and suggestions by him should be instantly forced into an industrial sized shredder closely followed by Denham himself. Happy to stick with current captain but would take Moloney or JT as a long shot.1 point

Ah no. Prefer someone more imbued in MFC. Mitch might might have leadership capabilities but lets seem them over a year or two before putting him in the leadership group.1 point

why is no one mentioning Jones in relation to any of this? full time super professional - tick 110% every game - tick inspirational footy - maybe not the most talented but always goes hard and puts his body on the line - half tick surely in the mix?1 point
