the dees only won 5 games last year if we win less then three games we get pick 1 and pick 3 just like carlton did last year because we won less then 8 games over two years last and this year counts for less then 8 wins over two years

No that's not quite right - you need to win less than 5 games for two consecutive years, not win 8 or less over the two years.

No Vince thats wrong.

We mucked up last year & blew any priority pick chances by winning too many games in '07.

If we win NOT MORE THAN 4 GAMES this year, then we will get a priority pick following the completion of RND1, '08 Draft...

Thanks guys. I'm still confused with conflicting answers. Maybe I should contact the AFL. Do you think THEY would know?

its 4 and a half wins or less, 2 seasons in a row that gets you the priority pick at the start of the first round.

No Freak. Wrong again. As previously pointed out to you

Its 16.5 points or less not 4.5 wins (18 points).

You will need 4 wins or less.

If it was 4.5, melbourne and carlton would've just played a draw and enjoyed the spoils. Definitiely 4 or less two years in a row

Yze Magic, i think you need to up your medication. Admittedly, I post some pretty outlandish stuff, but to trade Cale Morton and our draft pick is ridiculous. Cale Morton was a very high draft pick and hasn't filled out yet. And Daniel Rich(likely pick number 2) seems like a good player, but I know you've never seen him play and are purely going by the hype on him posted by others. Also to think that a team is going to trade a pick 2 highlights your stupidity and your amateur views on the game of football. I almost prefer brad miller over you.

Does the system whereby the first 5 picks go to the new teams come into effect in the 2009 draft or 2010?

My interpretation of the article was that it will happen in 2010. In 2008 & 2009 they will have first access to the Queensland and NSW kids only, they can stockpile a group and play them in the local competition. So when 2011 comes around they should have a nucleus of a decent team but they'll all be around 19 & 20.

The idea is to give both teams the opportunity to trade away early picks in the 2010 draft for established AFL players, which is a pretty fair way of creating a team. They'll also have the first group of picks in the psd.

"Under the current priority pick system, a team only receives a pick before round one of the draft if they have less than 4.5 wins in a season for two-straight years"

Sorry mate - "Less than" is different to "not more than".

Less than 4.5 wins means less than 18 points. 4 wins and a draw equals 18 points.

That's how I read it anyway.

Kit and Jarka are right. 4.5 wins leaves you short of the PP.

http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,2...3-23211,00.html

If the Blues lose on Sunday, they will get the No.1 draft pick under the system which allows clubs with 16 premiership points or less in consecutive seasons first bite at the nation's best young talent.

http://www.abc.net.au/sport/content/200511/s1509486.htm

if a team finishes with four or fewer wins for two consecutive years, it will gain a pick at the start of the draft as is the case under the current system.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Priority_draft_pick

If a team finished with fewer than 16.5 premiership points in two consecutive seasons, then their Priority Selection is taken before the First Round.

your 3 sources just contradicted each other. wikipedia just stated 16.5 wins, which is wrong, 4 wins= 16points not 16.5 as states in ur last source. Hopefully it is 4 and i'm wrong because that increases our chances of getting either rich or naitanui.

I want Natanui and Rich.

One is not enough.

We have pick 1 sewn up, so how do we get pick 2 so we can secure both of these absolute freaks?

We will gain a priority pick at the end of Round 1 (pick 17).

Pick 2 is so far out of the question it's not worth discussing.

But 'Yze_Magic', how can we trade for two picks in the 10 - 20 range?, can you put your DEES thinking cap on & come up with a solution?

Bing! Wrong again. Its a bad day Freak.

I like the wikpedia summary because I thought until now it removes any ambiguity or confusion on the situation.

Each article refers to same premise that you need 4 wins or less for 2 consecutuve years to get a 1st round PP.

I agree with your last sentence.

How many games to do you have to win to score less than 16.5 points? (Hint: It's not possible to score exactly 16.5 points)

The whole point of making it "fewer than 16.5" is because you can't land exactly on 16.5. You can get 4 wins (16 points, less than 16.5, therefore you qualify), or 4 wins and a draw (18 points, greater than 16.5, therefore you do not qualify).

Agreed Nash, perhaps the wording 'not more than 4 wins' would be less ambiguous?

I reckon some people would be confused either way.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
