Team v Brisbane

Featured Replies

Bate needs to earn his spot. Miller has.

There is still plenty in that team that Bate deserves to be playing ahead of though.

Agreed, im absolutely baffled by these selctions. Also why is Miller an automatic inclusion but Bate isnt? He has been out of form for 4 years.

Does anyone know how well Bate has played in his last few games for Sandy?

If Garland was BOG last week, and Bate has been just ordinary, or hasn't shown the work rate, or whatever other reason the coach isn't happy with, then so be it!

Well done to Garland........after having a shocker with us, he got dropped, and has bounced straight back.......hope he has good game.

I'm also disappointed Bate isn't playing.

However, Bate for Whelan isn't remotely near a like-for-like switch.

I don't think "like-for-like" switchs are that necessary for a side 0 and 5. It's obviously not working as is, so unlike-for-unlike switches would be more appropriate.

Extremely disasppointd that Bate has not been selected.

So far, i have not been one of the many supporters confused by Baileys supposed game plan and direction, but my faith will start to waiver if i have to watch another pathetic display from our fowards on Sunday knowing Bate is playing for Sandy.

MELBOURNE

B: James Frawley, Nathan Carroll, Daniel Bell

HB: Paul Wheatley, Jared Rivers, Cameron Bruce

C: Brad Green, Brock McLean, Clint Bartram

HF: Cale Morton, Russell Robertson, Colin Sylvia

F: Aaron Davey, Brad Miller, Austin Wonaeamirri

Foll: Jeff White, James McDonald, Nathan Jones

I/C: Lyden Dunn, Colin Garland, Mark Jamar, Brent Moloney

EMG: Matthew Warnock, Matthew Bate, Simon Buckley

In: Garland, Miller

Out: Whelan (suspended), Neitz (neck)

i'm lost for words..............was certain Bate would be back.

So in effect that's the old "NO CHANGE" (save for forced changes). They're easily pleased.

Round 7 is when the changes are supposed to happen funnily enough against Freo. Who is running the club Bailey or Connelly? No one dropped again, this is becoming comical. We are the laghing stock of the competition and still Bailey thinks no one is bad enough to be dropped. Moloney couldn't have played any worse last week he cost us any chance of winning and he still gets a game. Bailey clearly has a love affair with morons Miller and Carroll. How they can get a game in front of Bate? It is a cruel joke. I've had enough I will not go to a game while Bailey is coach. It's past the stage of when he should be sacked he now must be sacked. I will never forgive Garry Lyon for what he has done. Try watching our games and get to know our players like CALE Morton before you pick idiot coaches like Bailey (MMM hasn't taken our games since rnd2)

Stop your crying, Bate is EASILY in our best 18, which means he mustn't be 100% fit.

They put him on the extended bench, gave him a fitness test which he didn't pass, so now he has to be put down as an emergency.

We can't afford to be carrying underdone players, god knows we're crap enough with 22 fit players.

Another week at Sandy, while Garland gets another game under his belt. It's not like we're fighting for a top 4 spot here people.

Look out everyone, it's round 6 and the first "I will not watch a game while X is coach" has come out! Join the queue of people who do the same and participate in their group self-gratification sessions - we don't care.

Happy with the changes. Surprised that Bate isn't in, but we all know that it isn't because he's not good enough so it must be a different reason - not chasing, not fit, whatever. Garland has improved a heap since the start of last year and now looks excellent at Sandy. I think it's just a matter of time before he adjusts to AFL.

Bit early to write off Garland you idiots

As some people have noted, he was a class above at Sandy last week

Its his second season, and he was a late pick.

Give him time you Brighton toffs

geez you come out with some stupid shyte you Doncaster dipstick

have to admit to being very perplexed by the 'changes' every week, there doesn't seem to be any real accountability for the absolute rubbish this team is churning out. Bailey better start getting some results or he's losing me. Bate SHOULD be in, Miller should NOT even be on the list, and how the puck Jamar continues to get a run l will never know, its frickin' infuriating and frustrating. l'm really getting [censored] off.

Buckley is playing. Just been out with a mate who is good friends with him and he told me Buckley is up in qld and has been told he'll be playing. So if this is true, then who is the late withdrawl?

Bate must not be fit. HE is one of our top 10 plyers at the ckub, fot him not to be selected in a winless team, means he is still a week away (which means if he is fit next week he will be playing regardless- they wil drop anyone to put him in).

Garland is an interesting selection. He has earnt the right to wear the jumper, so i will support the move. I hope he can show some poise and retain his spot.

As for Buckley playing? I would think if anyone is carrying an injury it would be Moloney. He doesn't seem quite right at the moment. A bit sluggish and is not playing with his head up. Might need to go down and build some fitness and confidence at Sandy.

Big game for Dunn/Miller. If either of these two were to stink it up this week, you are looking at one of them possibly being dropped for Bater next week.

Buckley is playing. Just been out with a mate who is good friends with him and he told me Buckley is up in qld and has been told he'll be playing. So if this is true, then who is the late withdrawl?

The club usually takes an extra player on its interstate trips and if Buckley is up in Queensland, then he's probably the one who has the gig this week. It doesn't necessarily mean he's playing.

He would also be the logical one to take up as an emergency because it wouldn't make sense to take Matthew Bate up in that role given that he needs the match practice and will be guaranteed a game if he stays in Melbourne and plays for Sandringham.

The problem with a lot of melbourne players, aka Bate and Juice, is that dont work hard enough and believe that natural talent is enough to earn selection...

I think Bailey's philiosophy is to play people who put in 110% rather than people who dont put in second efforts! Miller is a must have at the moment, who works hard and runs all day... Those who think Miller should not be in the team are hot heads who need to trust the judgment of the coaching staff ahead of their own misconceptions...

Bate is not playing because the "hamstring"injury he sustained against the kangas was more ligament/tendon related (down near the back of the knee) and takes a long time to heal fully. In some ways better than a soft tissue (muscle) injury, it dosesn't heal as easily or as quickly but when it does it heals perfectly, if given the right amount of time.

Bate has done everything + to get over the injury and is technically fit to play. He has more than fulfilled the club' expectations in his two games with Sandy but he is considered v important to the club's future and simply won't be risked needlessly, particularly while other players are being given the opportunity to show if they've also got what it takes for AFL. If his injury were to reoccur he would be out for a long time, minimum another 6. Sitting in a plane to Brisbane for 2.5 hours is not good therapy for his injury either as the problem was caused by tightening of the muscles in the opposite leg causing over compensation in the injured leg., i.e. too much power through the injured part while sprinting.

Mate, I am inclined to agree that it seems Bailey will reward application over talent. And I think that's a good thing. But Miller should not be in the team because he can't kick or handball, doesn't kick goals, doesn't take contested marks and shows no leadership (that absolutely stupid act that gave him a week off is the latest example). No misconceptions here.

Warnock has traveled to Brisbane with the team. Buckley is playing for Sandy.

My apologies on misinforming the board then.

Last time he told me he was right, not this time it seems. Will have to go smack him over the back of the head next time I see him lol <_<

Then what is it about playing for Sandy that is good physiotherapy, Himark?

I would think that the air travel to Brisbane might have had somehing to do with him not playin for the dees and Sandy instead?? i remember players like Hird, Al Lynch not travellin due to hammy problems. i could be wrong though

Just watching Bate @ Sandy, he got a bad bounce and had to stop suddenly and change direction, while doing so he visibly favoured one leg. So if he is carrying an injury which is keeping him out of the firsts I don't understand why he's playing with Sandy.

Yep. I saw that too. Was in he last 2 minutes of the game.

Also saw it. If that was AFL level, his opponent wouldve scooped up that ball burnt him off and set up a goal with seconds.

He didnt look to be fully fit today, and I can see why he hasnt been brought back yet.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
