What's a forward line?

Recommended Posts

There was an incident in the first quarter which summed up our foward line woes for the year.

We kicked it to Neitz right in front of goal where he had a body on body marking contest. He got hands on it, but could not quite reel it in and Carlton cleared it out of their defensive zone.

A few moments later, the ball gets kicked to Fevola in a similar marking contest, he manages to control the ball for a mark and goal.

That only needs to happen 4 or 5 times in a game, and there is a decent winning margin.

On top of other problems we have with effeciency of ball use, pressure, clearances, tall defenders, etc...when we do kick it down there we rarely have anyone who is able to win a 50/50 contest, and crumbers are seldom seen if the ball does get spilt to ground level anyway.

That was the time that Neita was grabbed over the shoulder. He was impeded. The umpiring was cr@p today.

A Handpass to mid air..is stil la fn'n handpass. .a kick to the grounf 5 mtrs in fornt of the player..is still a kick. ... but they are useless.

Im not using guesswork..just using my bloody eyes.. which tells more more than all uselss bloody stats in the world!!

And the very best teams still commit these atrocities you refer to, just less of them.

And if stats are so meaningless why are coaches so consumed by them ? The football you watch today has been governed by stats and a need to create advantages. Stats aren't the be all and end all, but they paint a picture and dictate the future.

And forgive me if an old man's eyes don't interest me.

again.. just so you quite understand.. stats without qualifciation are useless... Maybe Coaches ought to be less concerned about them and more about basics.

You know the old adage.. Lies ..damn Lies...and Statistics !!

So what do you statistics tell us about our play.. about our woeful decision making.. and poor distance perception..or even the ability to stand on ones feet ??

Quite simply..the very best teams dont play like us....or are you saying were only 10% ( or what god knows what ) shy of being a Geelong ??

Ya better get on the blower to Dean and lett him know to stop by Safeway on the way home and pick up another 10%...all's fixed then !!

I feel like I'm arguing with a homeless person.

My stats are qualified you old fart. There's about 10% in any given year between the best and worst teams covering all their key performance indicators. Do your own [censored] research you [censored]. It's all on the Net.

research?

your premise is its all in the stats !! you NEED to justify it.

Im saying they are at very best a minor tool , and they are to be used with care. Be guided by them too much and you end up with rubbish. I have no purpose in justifying stats as I consider them often false truths.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
