Maric-Five Goals

Read Maric kicked 5, I know he is only young, but does this performance deserve a game? Considering the Blues are far from a force this must be a game they may think to throw him into.

Thought Aussie was good again on the weekend, at least he was productive.

Last thought, as I sat there in the fading sun with my dad at 3/4 time I guaranteed Robbo would end up with 3 goals and look like he did his bit to stave off Sandy. I certainly hope not.

(Insert the sound of a heart beating meekly...beating none the less)

Probably not, only because Davey and Austin did pretty well. you'd like to be seeing him kicking 4 or 5 a week for half a season at Sandy. Remember Matthew 'SuperStar' Bate should be back in the 'one's' this week. Thank God, someone who can kick goals from outside 50m (apologoes to Paul Wheatley)

agreed that Davey and aussie were in our best, I guess I am just looking for a little spark. The team is obviously flat and in dire need of something, in hindsight by adding a 17 y.o boy is not what we need.

Maybe time for Newton if he is interested in chasing and drop Robbo.

I wille vrey glad whenpeople stop thinking of Davey as some sort of forward pocket..he's not..never ought to be..totally wasted there.. give th eman some space to workin..thats Davey.

Maric IS a pocket and as the years go by wil be a prolific scorer for Melbourne...this kid has GOT IT!!

Ttreat yourselves to some close up spectating...go watch him in the Zebbies..hell its free if a Dee

Im not sure exactly where to put Aussie...I'll wait on that one

The new Allan Jakovich is coming along nicely

Unleash him against the Blues

would he add some enthusiasm to the current team....

i just cannot believe our lack of enthusiasm - even when aussie kicked a goal, there was not the whole team patting him on the back and giving him a bit of agee up...

watch the other teams and what they do.... a little thing i know!!

Maybe time for Newton if he is interested in chasing and drop Robbo.

Going on his performance against Frankston, he will be in Sandy for a while yet. I am a strong supporter of Juice, but recently, some doubt has been entering my mind. Is he actually up to it?

Apart from his skyscraper grab, what has he done that warrants his selection in the team??? Juice really struggled against Frankston (in his defence, the delivery into the forward line wasn't that crash hot) and cannot be promoted based on his effort from the weekend. Late in the third quarter when Beamer thumped it long and was going thru for a goal, Juice tried to mark it, couldn't, and a point was the result. I was about 2 metres from the fence behind the goals, and could clearly see his expression of disbelief in what he just did. It was just one of those days for him, and he knew it with his expression. He'll turn it around.

C'mon Juice, kick a lazy bag of 7 to silence my doubts.

What have his other games been liek?

Actually who cares, throw him in there.

Neita and Robbo dod not have 1 goal between them to 3/4 time on Saturday and their lack of pace is hurting us when other sides rebound.. Total absence of any delivery into the forward line is not helping admittedly! However as the game against teh Blues is one of few the MFC has a chance of winning in 2008 would be worthwhile dropping Robbo and Neita and replacing them with two quick youngsters who can chase and compete! maric and frawley perhaps and Matty Bate (if ready).

Is some dounbt MFc will be brave enough however having already declared the match committee would wait 6 weeks before getting the ruler out.

Would urge a quick rethink as target games need to be Round 5 against Blues, Round 7 (Freo at the G) and round 22 against Tiggers (Nanatui cup round)

The only thing going against Maric is his size (not his height). He is only into his first season and their isn't too much muscle on him. He is no twig, but when playing on AFL bodies he will struggle. Having said that, he is pretty quick and evasive, shows a bit of dash, and doesn't mind taking on the opposition.

He is also a freak anywhere inside or around the 50. The ball just seems to find a way to go through the big sticks. He is a very exciting prospect indeed. For those that haven't seen him play, i urge you all to try and get down to TBO. This kid has got something, and will be the best thing to happen to our forward line since Davey or possibly even Farmer.

Dont worry to omuch about his size.Yes he will get bigger and stronger.. but even now he is very clever in using what he has.

If he doesnt worry about them..nor should we !!

good to see you got that settled all by yourself :D

Just opened the paper hoping to see a couple goals next to Maric's name and couldn't imagine my suprise to see he jagged five! Would love to see him get a gig in the seniors this week (god knows we need something to get excited about) but am mindful of the last time we tried to expose a young talent to the bigtime after a single break-out game in the VFL (anyone else remember Colin Sylvia's debut?).

If he can build on yesterday's performance and string together some consistent games down at Sandy, I have no doubt we'll see him in the Red & Blue sooner rather than later.

If maric makes the cut, Aussie or Robbo have to be chopped. Robbo won't be dropped next week for Maric. If robbo does not come good in a fortnight, then we may see Maric. I would like to see more Aussie also, so a tough call.

Maric has a future by the sounds of him. Needs a few more good outings before he can push his way into the red and blue jumper.

Maybe our forward line in 2 years will be:

Sylvia, Bate, Dunn

Davey, Newton, Maric.

I know all of those guyz are down in confidence now, but if they can develop well and get up in confidence, then that could potentially be awesome

If ever you wanted a soft introduction to AFL football, playing on Carlton's defenders is the way to go.

However, just because he kicked 5 goals does not mean he is ready to step up into the big league.

Given how young he is, given his body shape, given that he spends 5 days a week at school, it seems unlikely that he'll play this year, let alone next week.

If he does get a game, great, but don't bet your house on it.

I went into the huddle at 1/4 time at Sandy and had a close look at Maric.

He is a very young looking fresh faced kid, but in saying that he is not the skinny underdeveloped kid that people are making him out to be.

His legs are actually quite developed and deceptively muscular and the rest of his small frame has some decent cover.

Aaron Davey in his first year was much skinnier.

I would drop Robbo and play him without a doubt.

I would also bring Bate anad Newton in, at the expense of CJ and Miller.

Play Sylvia in defense for a whole game.

IN - MARIC, BATE

OUT - MILLER (SUSP) ROBBO (OMIT)

move over micheal newton theres a new cult figure in town!! ADDAM THE MAN MARIC!

I stil have the mental image of him turnig Goddard...( no slouch ) inside out and upside down.. . Marid reminds me of a martial arts practicioner.. He uses what he has ..he leverages. . As he gets stronger that will only make playing easier for him.

He has a footy brain...he reads the ball very very well. If if he plays this year marvellous...happy to wait though.

Bate is (and expected to be) a little sore from playing at Sandy this week. Don't expect him back for at least two weeks. He is going to be a good player for us but needs a little bit of time at the moment. No need to rush him back right now.

Bate in all reality is a few weeks yet. Dont rus hhim...it wont affect our year.. it might affect next year to rush him now.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
