We have been vomit since we took on that Bohdan bloke as fitness guru.

From chocolate to [censored] in last years pre- season.

about 21 months ago we were on top of the ladder and hailed as Melbournes best team

WTF happened

Today's result was on the basis of players laziness and lack of commiment not of fitness

It just appears that since he has been in charge of fitness prep we have had such a huge number of injuries.

They look so under prepared, players cramping in the 3rd quarter for Christs sake!!!!

I beg to differ, if you are unfit it appears like laziness and therefore unable to compete

I think fitness played some part in the game today as I noticed early in the game several Demons puffing and with their hands on hips and bent over. That tells you something. Don't know if you can blame it for the pathetic skills though.

That can be the case but there are lots of unfit players that throw themselves into the game and chase their hearts out, it leaves them absolutly rooted but they keep going

whether it was Bo Babs fault or not ..but there certainly was NO run in the side today..looked as flatflooted and lacklustre as ever Ive seen them !!

Neitz, Robbo, & Yze have gotten too old & slow & are now not up to it. Green, Bruce, & Carroll are not A graders & Green is soft & looks for the soft options & possessions.

We have lost 2 key planks from our list whom would now be our top Guns, Broadbridge & Thompson.

It's not Bohdan's fault.

Why did Hawthorn get rid of this bloke 2 years ago - if he was any good at fitness they would have kept him!

My only knowledge of this guy's past performances was at Hawthorn, which has widely been accepted as being a disaster. Could someone please give details of his other roles he's had?

He was chief strategist for the Iraki army in 2003 and followed that up with a stint as financial adviser at Enron. He was once driving instructor for Princess Di's chauffeur and was also consulted by Britney Spears on parenting.

I'd love to read a post from someone on this site who has qualifications & also if possible quality experience in physical fitness training and preparation who can enlighten us in the recurrent themes regarding our teams fitness

The Dees were a seemingly fit team in 06 when we were able to out run opposition in the last Qtr, it was a part of the game plan. Now we don't seem to even get going at all.

There have been a number of posts on the subject of the fitness training that seem to cover 3 different aspects, soft tissue, lack of pace and endurance.

I would like to know what an experienced physical trainer has to say on these subjects raised in relation to the Dees cos the three areas of soft tissue (hamstring strains etc), pace and endurance for my mind are three different areas that all require their own individual programs and we seem to be lacking in all areas

My untrained backyard understanding of these areas are:

Hamstring - muscle shortens from training/use requiring stretching so as to avoid strains, tears etc. Also the strength of the opposing muscle (quads?) can cause probs?

Pace - Hill sprints Percy Cerutty style, sand dunes, substitute for hills with an incline 45º + such as those found in Dandenong ranges area where Robert de Castella trained as a youngun. I think Matty Hayden follows the sand dune approach or a derivative of and while he's obviously not an Olympic sprinter he seems quicker off the blocks than our big men and some of our smaller

Endurance - Miles and miles into the legs

How does this fit into our stuff? If the only sprinting we do is on the flat at sea level I'd be concerned.

Any way, love to hear from a successful trainer

cheers

He also gave Wayne Carey advice about women.

No use blaming him, he is not the one training the players to try and hit the target from 20 meters away.

Talk about looking for a scapegoat guys!!!

I don't know how good or bad Bohdan is, but the following cost us the game and aren't part of his brief.

- Unable to kick to a teammate

- Unable to handball to a teammate

- Handball to a teammate who is flat footed and under pressure

- refusal to be accountable for an opponent

- refusal to chase your opponent

- Pulling out of contests

- playing without pride or passion

Whilst you may argue that we did not chase or man up due to lack of fitness, this would be a cop-out. If we had the desire or discipline required (but no fitness) then we would have tried but just not kept up.

If you look at who is actually available to play for either Melbourne or Sandy, the only player we are missing is Grimes. This is much better than previous years.

How does a team lose so much ability in 18 months?

Yes, I think you can. Try and perform any skill under pressure, when you are stuffed/knackered/tired and you will usually shank it, or make a mess of it.

Wasn't he the bloke at Geelong before they p*ssed him off (with acrimony I think), got a new bloke, reduced soft tissue injuries and went on to a flag?

No.

Can't see it being BB fault when blokes like Robbo plonk themselves within the 50 arc and refuse to chase the other way.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
