GOF... how do YOU know how long things took to get to a point of 'breakdown" If you have insdie info..please illuminate.

It only takes the slightest differing in direction ( objectives ) and eventually a rift occurs.. It wouldnt have been obiosu to anyone ..until th epaths become distinclty different. Its very easy to judge in hindsight isn it ... P!ss easy !! As an "IDEAL" yes, it migh thave been better if some things never happened. But "thigs' often have a hbit of indeed happening.. Its what you do when they occur that separates some from others.

I dont think particularly PG is any golden child..I have some issues with a few things about the MFC. What I suggested was that give credit where its due.

The wolves of the 4th estate would have been circling the MFC they must have salivated at the prospect of blood.. and some nice juicy stories to go.. with even Juicier headlines to boot !! Try as they did ( the media) no such haemoraging happened. We awake today with , I think somethig of a coup , having appointed Paul Mac to the helm. The ship sails on.. it hit no rocks. Are there blue sky days ahead.. well; maybe some but I concede there are some big waves and swells to contend with.

I sense agreement that most likely Steve had to go ?? Might it been more appropriate at some early juncture.. maybe.. But who knows what constraints existed about this ? Maybe it wasnt quite so simple as to suggest ... 'mate..thers a door over there with your name on it !!" Little things like contracts etc.. maybe this WAS the earliest a split could be effected.

So its not good enough to learn from mistakes ?? lol.. what rot !! Who doesn take mistakes.?? You try to make as few as possible and you attempt to remedy those that happen or institute procedures to minimise future occurences!!

I'd rather deal in facts than rhetoric. The facts are that whilst we've had a 'lame duck' CEO in charge for the past 3 months, our membership figures are the worst in the AFL by any measures.

... and some of you who have decided that PG is no good will find a way to [censored] and moan regardless.

Without coming up with a better solution.

You just failed your own standard.

How can you applaud and give credit to the removal of a CEO who was reappointed 12 months prior?

He wasn't re-appointed. Steve Harris was appointed in June 2004. His contract was open ended, ie. was not a fixed term contract. It provided for a period of notice which either party could give to the other. He was not offered a new contract or a contract extension last November.

How many companies would retain a failed CEO in an interim role?

Not going to acknowledge you were wrong hey?

So you would have preferred the club to be CEO-less going into the season? Good one.

No, you appoint an interim one, like Collingwood did when Swann jumped ship.

Interim CEO's are usually a waste of time. They don't have time to make any changes, better off hanging on to the guy who knows what is going on.

Correct. The 12 month extension of Harris's contract is a myth.

Incorrect.

You can do either method depending on the situation at hand. Given there were existing projects that Harris had past knoweldge on at the time, which interim CEO did you have in mind that could ably fill the role for three months more appropriately than Steve Harris?

George Bush.

Interim CEOs are like interim Coaches, they are there to keep the seat warm and nothing else. I'm not sure if we would have benefited from one, but given Harris' problems with the Board and with his own staff I am surprised he agreed to/chose to stay on until now. Regardless he's done as of tomorrow and an unsuccesful chapter closes.

Re PG I think he's done an alright job. I wouldn't say he's done a great job, but certainly not a bad job either. The one thing he and the board have done which they must be given enourmous credit for is stopping the endless cycle of board coups and public slanging matches between "factions" within the footy club.

I don't think he has sold our club well publicly at times, but I think that is a general issue for the footy club, and not the domain of just him individually. Hopefully the appointment of Paul Mac will change that very serious problem. I see these facts about funding and about Harris not being re-appointed and its great that they are brought up here but why aren't they brought up by the club, published in the media, and those making accusations about the club that are incorrect challanged on their inaccuracies?

Because they have been gagged by Rhino Richards.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
