What frightens me is that I think we WERE treating it as a dress rehearsal...

And this is all we could come up with...

It's going to need a huge turnaround to even be competitive against Hawthorn, even with their missing players. :o

Disheartning, disallusioned and really disapointed.

very disappointing result... while our backline was missing some players, our midfield and forward lines were almost full strength...

The season cannot come around quick enough for us. While it's ok to say we are still learning to deal with new game plan's and young players and testing depth, i am sick of losing, it seems to be a culture we have embraced of late.

I for one am very dissapointed with our pre season form, no wonder no one rates us or takes us seriously... i'm a little over it actually!

Agree. I've been saying this all along. Playing all the kids in the NAB Cup was a cop out. If anything, Geelong should have rested all their senior players. Our senior list needs to grasp the new game plan more than the kids.

We continually lose, then we wonder why our membership is poor.

it almost feels that we dont want to win this match!

NOt one win in any match and didnt really look like it, it's not losing that is getting me p!ssed off, it's the way we are losing.

i'm not giving up...but my mate might be interested in this odds..

Just got Melbourne $5 for the wooden spoon. Easiest money Ill ever make...

Jeez, they've come into $3.80 on Sportsbet. At $5, I was about to have a nibble myself.

20 down already

We will get flogged

Yes, I said that halfway through the 1st quarter

peanuts....pies..... razor blades !!!!

peanuts....pies.... razor blades !!!!

Yes, I said that halfway through the 1st quarter

No... no you didn't.

well its not over..but it is...

will be interested to hear WJ's report..

ahhh the more things change..the more they stay the same *sigh*....lol

rollon Season Proper.. then a loss is a REAL loss !! lol

I'm out, going to have a beer and kick the footy with my daughter, her enthusiasm would nt go astray in the current list...and she is only 16 months old.

Melbourne [censored] me at the moment...

I'm generally very positive during preseason, regardless of what happens.

But [censored] this really isn't good enough.

There are some real problems down there.

screw this losing [censored]!! couldn't even win one bloody game

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
