Forget Inside Football, forget that Hamburger guy at afl.com. I saw plenty of under 18 matches this season (my cousin plays for Oakleigh Chargers), and I saw every game of the Championships. Without further ado.....

1. Carlton - Matthew Kreuzer. This goes without saying. When you have the number 1 pick, and you're team is devoid of tall timber that can play the game, then you are going to take the 199cm kid that has the most promise in this years crop.

2. Richmond - Trent Cotchin. Even Richmond aren't stupid enough to pass up on Cotchin.

3. West Coast - Chris Masten. The perfect replacement for Ben Cousins.

4. Melbourne - Cale Morton. Think Travis Johnstone, but not lazy. That is what we will get with Cale Morton, the kid whose exquisite ball skills are his trademark. The polish on a tough midfield (Jones, McLean, Sylvia etc..)

5. Western Bulldogs - Lachlan Henderson. Legit tall forward that can play ruck. McEvoy could go here.

6. Essendon - David Myers. Could become a James Hird type player. Demons may take him at pick 4. If not, he will be a Bomber guaranteed.

7. Fremantle - Rhys Palmer. Explosive midfielder whom Freo will be happy to see fall to pick 7.

8. Brisbane - Brad Ebert. Could impact straight away as a goal kicking forward that can pinch hit in the midfield. A great addition to an already talented Lions squad.

9. St.Kilda - Ben McEvoy. 199cm forward that will help offset the loss off Gehrig, and good insurance for the perennially injured Justin Koschitzke.

10. Adelaide - David Gourdis. The loss of Ricciuto, Welsh and the uncertain future of injured full forward Trent Hentschel leaves the Crows screaming for a forward option. And Western Australian David Gourdis provides this.

11. Sydney - Cyril Rioli. A real magician, and influences games like few others in this draft. The Swans are old, slow and predictable. Rioli will help change that.

12. Hawthorn - Tom Collier. Exciting backman with great pace and size (192cm) will help lift the Hawks thin backline stocks.

13. West Coast - Callan Ward. Very young but exciting midfield dynamo. Could become a superstar, but as a bottom age pick didn't crack the top 10. Whoever picks him up will be laughing in a few years.

14. Melbourne - Alex Rance. The Demons need a classic full back, and here he is. Alex Rance (194cm) is a lockdown player in the mould of Ben Rutten, Darren Glass and Matthew Scarlett. Does not give his opponent an inch, and will eventually be able to play on the gorillas.

15. Kangaroos - Jarrod Grant. 191cm, 77kgs (Key Fwd)

16. Port Adelaide - Patty Veszpremi. 183cm 83kgs (Onballer)

17. Geelong - Scott Simpson. 194cm 91kgs (Key Fwd)

18. Richmond - Jack Grimes. 187cm 76kgs (Midfielder)

19. Western Bulldogs - Tom Bellchambers. 199cm 91kgs (Ruckman)

20. West Coast - Patrick McGinnity. 182cm 75kgs (Midfielder)

21. Melbourne - Adam Maric. Popular opinion says the Demons will go tall with pick 21,

but as I look at our list I see a serious lack of skillful crumbing players. Besides Aaron Davey, what have we got? Maric is seriously skilled, Daicos-like with his ability around the goals. If available, we must snap him up.

Not to sound up myself, but my mock draft is the only one you need to see. Forget Inside Football, forget that Hamburger guy at afl.com. I saw plenty of under 18 matches this season (my cousin plays for Oakleigh Chargers), and I saw every game of the Championships. Without further ado.....

I'll take those selections. Which one are we going to take Sampi with?

Good effort mate, getting Morton and Rance would be the best result we could hope for in this draft in my view, which admittedly is only based on reports and the short clips I've seen of them both. Morton the classy finisher who can really hurt teams by foot and Rance to solve our FB problems for the foreseeable future. Would prefer to take a tall if we could with 21, but if we were able to pick up Morton and Rance, best available reagardless with 21 would be fine with me.

I'm not sold on Rance, query on his defensive skills, which for a full back is a worry. Grant seems to be an interesting one though.

Never under-estimate the innate stupidity of the Richmond Recruiters.

Biffinator.

One of the sunday papers is saying the Dees are cooling on Sampi. Is someone else on the horizon?

im warming very nicely to masten, especially if tigers take morton, west coast take cotchin

he is a WA boy through and through, and if thigs dont work out with him, the victorian boy who went one pick above him might want to come home too :D

is the ben cousins model gut runner, cleanly skilled rover, a bit of class to accentuate brock and jonesy!!!

i think with the whole valenti and the other bloke from Sandy, and the (hopefully) Ryley Dunn stuff going on ATM, Sampi isnt needed anymore. I wouldnt mind getting more untried delisted players from other clubs, with late draft picks, PS draft picks, and with the rookie draft cos IMO, ive decided that Sampi is ur classic one hit wonder and in 3 years time will be the same age as TJ and will be out of there....what a waste of time he could become

Nice try Yze but i think it's wishful thinking to suggest that Rance will slip to 14.

Great job Yze Magic...........

Not sure the Bombers will pass on Palmer if he is available at Pick 6 though, as Adrian Dodoro (Essendon's recruiting manager) said they'll take a gun midfielder with pick 6. I don't really call Myers a midfielder, I call him a rebounding half-back flanker, and the Bombers have a few of them such as McPhee & Lovett-Murray, and we really lack some class in the middle. We'll see what happens draft day anyway, one more sleep..........!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
