Ryan Ferguson delisted

Well done Ferg, I have a feeling you're not done at AFL level, I reckon someone will have a crack at him as a late bloomer... a very late bloomer.

Shame the club couldn't get anything for you, but I think you should be pleased with your career thus far.

Well done mate...

TBO, I didn't mind Ferguson. For whatever reason, Daniher had it in for him, and was the only player i've heard Daniher publicly criticize. Whereas Nicholson was given chance after chance, Ferguson was always the 1st one dropped.

Just maybe, Nicholson was better than Ferguson.

It's hard to contemplate Nicho being better than anyone

Although in this case I'd have to agree with you.

Wouldn't be surprised if another club picked him up in the PSD.

47 games in 5 years makes a fool of your conspiracy. ND was critical of him after the Freo game at the MCG where McPharlin kicked four on him in the first quarter. Its was justified. Ferg was embarrassing and forgot rule 101 of defending that day and his failure caused a desperate rejuggling of the backline in the 2nd quarter which undermined our performance that night.

I would be very surprised if he get picked up.

Nicho did play some good football earlier but deteriorated. Ferg never did. Too many posters wrongly overvalued Ferg's undoubt courage as a proxy for the absence of critical skills at AFL level.

Both were ultimately not up to AFL.

I thibk he played some ok footy at times, particularly before sylvia tried to take that hanger on him and injured him. But i think it was time to move on. Hope he gets picked up elsewhere, wouldnt be surprised.

I am shocked at Fergie getting axed. i think he was hard done by. Injuries cruelled him. I hope he goes on and does well, he deserves it.

That wasn't the game i was referring to. It was after the game against Geelong at KP which we won by a point, and a radio interviewer mentioned how well the backline played. Daniher's response was to slag off Ferguson, and say how good Nicho was. It was disgraceful. Nicholson got towelled up many a time, but in Daniher's eyes, it was always someone elses fault.

Nicho was unfairly maligned on these boards in his year. He had limitations but he was a good defensive tall defender. He struggled with his kicking but, as a defender, he was good for us. His athleticism was under rated because of his build and style.

Ferg, on the other hand, was over rated by many posters because his courage was so good and because his perceived problems were due to his slight frame which only required 'one big preseason in the gym'. The fact is that his deficiencies were of speed (which was nowhere near as good as Nicho) and his ability to defend his opponent (due to his ball watching tendencies). He read the play very well, but you couldn'ty play him on anyone because they would cut him up.

He gave it a fair dip but just wasn't good enough in the end. I wish him the best of luck in the future.

I did not hear that interview

Unfortunately, events like the Freo game happened regularly for Ferg not always with the same scoreboard effect.

I couldn't ever see Ferguson stopping a player like Richo, as Nicho did so well in the "Nathan Brown broken leg" game.

Actually, Ferg did well on Richo in his first ever preseason game for us.

That said, Richo was W-O-E-F-U-L. I doubt that he'd have run more than 80 metres for the whole game.

And that was about it for Ferg. What a false dawn that turned out to be. In fact in all the time he's been here there are only two games that have caused me to wonder whether he had a future. His first appearance you mentioned in a pre-season cup game when he did an excellent negating job on Richo and the Broadbridge game against Essendon when the footy just kept on finding him. Ferg is courageous but his skills are moderate, his strength in contests inadequate and he loses his feet far too often. He is an excellent footballer at his level and that level is not the AFL.
