roughead is not on the table.

One thing we are all forgettting is that Dean Baily is in Charge now. He knows what he needs to get this team working, and he seems like the kinda bloke that will go after no frills, hard working players with medium to low price tags. Don't be suprised if he head hunts a complete noname form Port, who will end up being a very good player.

NO FEV,

NO ROUGH.

Baily will play it cool.

Rubbish.

Word has it that Jed Adcock is not going to sign with the Lions, don't know exactly why. More than likely contract disputes, but he also may follow the same suit as Judd and want to come back to Vic.

Would anyone want him at the club????? <_<

Johnstone (our best player) for roughhead is surely a joke! but some people have a sick sense of humour!

I'd probably want him, but I think you'll find he has now re-signed at Brisbane.

Alwyn Davey has stated publicaly that he would like to play with Aaron it is on record in an interview he conducted after he was injured I think on the ABC

Maybe he wants Aaron to come to Essendon.

Our best player who's had 2 top 10 B&F finishes in a decade. A player who won't get any better. A player who turns 28 next season. A player that's lazy and half dedicated. No wonder we're a shyt club if he's our "best player". Sense of humour ? Yeah, mine's gone.

I wonder when some apologists for Johnstone will tire of defending his undoubted talent and stop being mesmerised by a few risky but ingenious passes. We all know that he delivers the ball beautifully to forwards. We know that time stands still for him. We know he makes the forwards lead to space by defly weighted clever kicks. Unfortunately his cameo performances that still seduce so many no longer cut it for me. I expected so much more from someone with his natural ability.

He's also representative of an all too easily pleased culture down at Melbourne. I'd happily trade him.

What would you give us for Aaron Ash?

our main target over this trade period should focus 100% of our energies on Ryan Murphey from freo.

he is a very promising key forward for freo but cant get a regular spot with Tarrant, Pavlich and Longmuir 3 quality permnant key forwards.

he wouldnt cost too much, but he could easily fill our hole at chf.

it also means that with CHF filled, we could pick up Rance at pick 4 and fill our hole in defence.

imagine a defence of:

Bell Carrol Rance (future gun key back)

Frawley Rivers Pettard

* with Bartram, Wheatley, Whelan, CJ rotating through. a real strong defence for the future.

then a forward line of:

Newton, Murphey, Bate

Davey, Neitz, Robbo

* with Dunn, Yze, Green, Bruce and others rotating through. Newton to eventually replace Neitz.

Then add midfield of Mclean,Sylvia, Moloney,Bartram, Jones, Dunn, Green, Mcdonald, Johnstone, Bruce...

adding a CHF and CHB makes all the difference. it's what our team really lacks.

Murphey and Rance can fill those holes for the next 10 years

Ive said this for a long time....

Hopefully someone from Melbourne has thought it.

Maybe he wants Aaron to come to Essendon.

Unfortunately I was thinking the same. And if Sheedy was still at the helm I wouldn't have ruled it out of the realm of possibility.

My sister's father in law is an ex Hawk player from the 60's and is very keen on Roughead. Beleives he will be a star so perhaps it might be worth investigation.

John is rarely wrong with his assesments and watches the Hawks like a Hawk. Knows his players and singled out Roughead and Franklin as superstars.

I heard on SEN this morning that Roughead got word that his name was on the table and was not happy. According to Patrick Smith we won't hear his name mentioned again.

Just need to have a look at Patrick Smith's comments leading up to the board challenges at St Kilda and Essendon compared to what actually happened to see how credible a journalist he is.

It was Greg Denham, not Patrick Smith.

Show him the money!

What would you give us for Aaron Ash?

To be honest, we don't really need him.

Alwyn Davey, Andrew Lovett, Leroy Jetta and Courtney Dempsey fill his role already on our list.

Obviously Aaron Davey is better than a couple of these blokes, but we have other needs [key backmen, genuine midfielder with pace] to fix before we worry about getting Aaron Davey to Essendon.

I hope we really try to chase Alwyn Davey (if available) and Ryan Murphy, because along with John Meesen we will have filled 3 of the 5 holes we need to fill.

1 - Tall Forward - Murphy

2 - Tall Defender

3 - Ruckman to replace White - Meesen

4 - Quick Midfielder

5 - Small Forward to help Davey - Al Davey

Yep and if that was the route.

Id say pick 4 used on Rance.

And pick 3 in pre season on ready made quick midfielder.

So.

1 - Tall Forward - Murphy

2 - Tall Defender - Rance

3 - Ruckman to replace White - Meesen

4 - Quick Midfielder - Pick 3 in PSD

5 - Small Forward to help Davey - Al Davey

I think you will all find that Murphy has one year to run on his Contract and is a vic country boy, wouldnt be surprised if he is keen to come home for more opportunity (who wouldnt be) He could be a big answer down forward and would be worth chasing, has one of the best kicks getting around.

Fev will not be leaving carlton the first thing ratten did when they heard about judd was ring fev to say he wouldnt be traded.

Davey will not be leaving essendon and people talking about having the two daveys running around on the ball dont know enough about whats going on, Aaron gets lost up the field, id rather see him not leave the fwd line and kick his 3 goals a week then get useless kicks up the ground and be resting in the fwd line and doing nothing.

Roughhead to leave Hawthorn would have to be a joke! You dont draft a bloke put a heap or work in to him have him playing at FF/CHF as a 19-20 year old then get rid of him (although we shoulda done that with Miller when he had a value) id be extremely surprised to see Hawthorn trade him.

I hope we really try to chase Alwyn Davey (if available) and Ryan Murphy, because along with John Meesen we will have filled 3 of the 5 holes we need to fill.

Well if we are to get a quick mid-fielder, Davey wouldn't need to be in the mid-field as much. He also plays his best footy in the forward line (as he seems to get lost in the middle). Davey would then become our permanent small forward.

Meesen as you have pointed out is the ruckman gained, we could aslo get another ruckman with our 2nd round pick

This narrows it down to our KPB and KPF. Hoping we have another first rounder, we draft for our most pressing need - a KPB

Get our forward in next years draft, or with another second round pick that we trade for.

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

  • NON-MFC: Round 08

Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road. Saturday kicks off with a pivotal clash for both sides asthe Bulldogs look to solidify their top-eight spot, while Port seeks to shake their pretender tag. Then the Crows will be looking to steady their topsy turvy season against a resurgent Blues looking to make it 4 wins on the trot. On Election Night a Blockbuster will see the ladder-leading Pies take on the Cats, who are keen to bounce back after a narrow loss. On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive. The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide. The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • PREGAME: West Coast

The Demons hit the road in Round 8, heading to Perth to face the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium. With momentum building, the Dees will be aiming for a third straight victory to keep their season revival on course. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
