delist/ retired:

Brown

Bizzel

Pickett

Neville

Ward

Ferguson (note that it was either him or Warnock as depth k.p.p and warnock is contracted for 2008)

Hughes* rookie- is unlucky but has to have shown more to get upgraded and is out of contract

offer up for trade bait, but if nobody offers anything at all (id even take a 3rd or 4th round pick) then delist:

Jamar

Miller

Borderline but probably keep as depth:

Holland

C. Johnson

Offer for trade, but only accept if we can manage to get a top10ish pick:

Bruce

Johnstone

Upgrade to senior list:

Neaves

Bode

pick up 1 player in PSD and about 5 in the draft.

during trade period, do not go out massively trying to poach highly rated stars from other clubs.

I would look at picking up Meesan (adel), Byrnes (geel), Prissmal (geel), R.Murphy (freo), Wood (bris) or Jaymie Graham (WCE) but only offer pick 21 and a sweetener (like Jamar or Miller or pick 37). we need draft picks this draft so dont just throw away picks for players unless they are going to be starting 18 players in 2008!

Pick 4- pick up Rys Palmer

If we somehow manage to gain a second top 10 pick through trading bruce of johnstone then pick up Rance (best key position defender in the draft) or McEvoy (the best pure ruckman in the draft)

If we trade Johnstone for a top 10 draft pick then if both top 10 draft picks will hopefully be either (Rance+Palmer) or (Rance+Ebert)

Trade Possibilities? Where to & for what?

Daniel Bell - Adelaide for first round draft pick / second round and a Victorian kid or perhaps third round plus Meesen?

Cameron Bruce - lower end of the first round in the draft / higher end second round (perhaps Hawthorn, Footscray, Brisbane) or perhaps Cameron Wood directly from the latter?

Chris A. Johnson - West Australian team, hopefully 3rd or 4th round of draft

Brad Miller - don't expect any offers, imagine he's under contract. Will stay on if so.

Colin Sylvia - first round draft pick or similar not-quite-there player from another's list (such as one of Hawthorn's current ruckmen, Fisher from Carlton, etc)

Rookies

Jace Bode - elevate

Daniel Hughes - hold

Shane Neaves - elevate

Daniel Hayes - drop

i have no idea what some people are on. Promote neaves but you want to get rid of jamar. MAkes no sense as jamar is a better player and is not a great deal older!!!!

i think we can rookie hughes again so maybe an option with him and neaves as hayes has already been told hes gone!

I disagree, I think Neaves is already as good as Jamar, even without any AFL experience. Isn't he about 5 years younger as well?

Seems like we want to trade away every single player on our list these days and boy does it get frustrating. I hate the way things go after a poor season, everyone just seems to think that the only way to improve is to trade away 15-20 players for any reason they can think of. I understand that we do need to make a few changes but let's be realistic about it. Our list without the injuries is very competitive and all we need is the right tweaking to turn our fortunes around.

Understand where you are coming from, but some players who have constant injury issues should be looked at.

I'm sure the Dees will contemplate trading Moloney but they know deep down that no club will want to go near him.

Travis Johnstone should not be entertained. We need to retain what little class and silk we have available.

I agree Jarka. And for the record, Jamar is 24 and Neaves is 20.

That's a guess not a fact. It's wrong for sure - Michael Newton is contracted for 2008 and that's just one example. Why post a list like that without any qualification? Like: "I think this is it" or "I read some guy on BigFooty who thinks this is it". The same thing happens with these lists like the draft order, some one regurgitates some crap and it it becomes a "fact". Notorious posters on Demonology have been perpetrating an incorrect out of contract list for a number of years now.

You are a deadset Goose. Absolute trash talk that you have completely fabricated with no thought what so ever.

That's exactly right, that list is wrong and the most you should have done was link to it in the first place, then at least people could make up their own mind about the value of a list that was "floating around". You're not "helping" anyone by posting incorrect information.

My possible trades would be:

Johnstone + White to St. Kilda for their first round pick (No. 9)

Green + Bruce to Fremantle for their first round pick (No. 7)

This may seem harsh trading up Bruce, Green, White and Johnstone.Especially as trading White will leave us without a number 1 ruckman. However, White will retire within a couple of years and does anyone honestly believe we have what it takes to win a flag by then. I would suggest trading to St. Kilda and Fremantle as these are the only clubs in the bottom 8 who would consider themselves a chance to win a flag in the near future and would be looking to 'top up'. I mean, White, Johnstone, Bruce and Green are all quality players.

In the draft we could then pick up:

Pick 4: Henderson

Pick 7: Best available midfielder (hopefully, Ebert/Palmer)

Pick 9: Rance

Pick 20: McEvoy (if not available then we can hopefully pick up another quality midfield. e.g. Selwood

Then in the third round we could address our need for a ruckman by picking up Bellchambers

We should use our remaining picks to pick up the best player available and adopt the same method in the pre season draft.

This would leave us with a team looking something like this:

B: Whelan, Rance, Frawley

HB: Bell, Rivers, Petterd

C: Palmer/Ebert, Jones, Dunn

HF: Bate, Henderson, Sylvia

F: Davey, Neitz, Robertson

R: PJ, McLean, Bartram

I: Moloney, McDonald, Newton, McEvoy

I wouldnt like the dees chances if that backline came up against a St. Kilda side of this year or any team with big bodies up forward. Who would have taken Kosi, the G-train and St Nick? Just food for though.

in the short term the saints forwards would dominate, but if we pick up Rance our defense will be one of the stronger in the afl in 3 years time.

defense of the future...

Key defenders: Rance, Frawley, Rivers, Carrol

running backs: Bell, Pettard, Bartram, Wheatley (maybe Bode)...

everyone knows our defense is weak at the moment. we have to make changes if we are going to develop a great defense in 3 years time when we realistically can have a shot at the premiership.

people who advocate trading for another top 10 pick should be careful that we arent getting ripped off. for example trading green (our next captain imo) and Bruce (imo at his best is our best player by far) for pick 7 is rediculous. u dont trade 2 of ur best players for 1 top 10 pick. however if we traded one of them, for one top 10 pick, id consider it seriously.

trading for high draft picks often works in the favour of the team who gets the pick.

consider Woewoden for Bell...Woewoden is long gone and Bell in up n coming.

These sides & also Carlton may just be interested in a deal. Add to the combo', Caroll, CJ or PJ. Carlton might like PJ, with Travis feeding the Fev. The Doggies might like White + Robbo/Bruce. Sainters might like a combo of White/PJ + Robbo.

We do need to build & freshen our list before we can be a serious challenger. This current list has allready peaked & is sliding.

just leave the list dont change to much but at the trade table lets go after back men to help out our weak link.

we have had a bad year with injurys and not a lot of them where soft tissue injurys.

WHAT!!?!?!?!?!

I understand that ur trying to rebuild the club but WHAT?!?!? how would getting rid of Johnstone Green and Bruce the entire core of our midfield. I mean you are kidding yourself that Green and Bruce would only manage a first round pick, its been said before and im saying it now WHAT IS THE POINT IN TRADING JUST FOR TRADING especially if you come out second best!!! I also disagree with trading white what is the point of this, it leaves us with nothing and we have no midfield at all then we have a couple of youngsters finding there feet and beginning to find there feet with no one to show them the ropes.

These trades leaves us bare and without anything to gain but a couple of youngsters who may or may not make it and may take several years to develop while you get rid of 4 ready made players who are all leaders of melbourne.

I'm sorry i just don't see the logic in this trade

didnt g train retire?

and kosi will prob be out injured anyway...

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
